CBS Films has issued this Red Band trailer for The Mechanic, the remake that stars Jason Statham and Ben Foster in roles originated by Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent in the 1972 film. The Mechanic bows January 28, and it looks like there is plenty of violence.

We saw the trailer play in front of True Grit. I don’t mind remakes when they go in a different direction and this looks exciting so I’m in.
Agreed. Looks like a great remake. Great to see Foster in another badass role. He rocked in 310 to Yuma
Any film with Ben Foster in it is instantly elevated to the “worth watching” category.
I got excited because the Trailer promised a movie with “plenty of violence”.
First let down of 2011.
Sure, packed into this 2.5 minute Trailer were shootings, stabbings, garrotings, beatings, flaming explosions, drownings, car wrecks, spearings…ho hum.
But c’mon…violence?
I live in the Promised Land, LA.
And “The Mechanic” ain’t violent, least not by real life standards, or your everyday, once-a-week, shoot ‘em up movie or TV drama.
CBS films should be ashamed of itself for false advertising.
Next time, put some REAL violence into your movies!
You know, like the transcendent violence of two anorexic, sexless chicks making out in “Black Swan”…
Or Ben Stiller’s horrific attempts at humor with Jessica Alba in “Little Fockers”.
Now THAT’S violence!
you know, I was liking your comment until I got to the ben stiller cut, and that sealed the deal, The problem with stiller is that people are seeing that the joke is on us when we go to a movie he has any part it.
Ben foster is one of those actors that guarantees a great solid watchable film.
You know, there is the group of actors where when you see they are making a movie you can pass on it. And then there are the actors that when you see they are making a movie that you will have a great time at the theater.
And we all know who we are talking about.
there always has to be one delusional asshole on the comment board who thinks they can do better than what’s out there.
go back to starbucks and focus on your dreck, sorry, “screenplay” and leave critiques to professionals you interloping dipshit.
Wow, touched a nerve? Are you channeling stiller?
I always love when people vent their anger as they hide behind the anonymity of the made up screen name. It’s so much easier to do than say, come up with an intelligent response that makes a valuable argument.
Love Donald Sutherland. One of the finest actors ever – great to see his face again on the screen.
No doubt Ben Foster is a good actor, but besides that I don’t find him that appealing. Especially as a bada** He’s more of a psycho
This trailer is the best one yet. The poster blows though. CBS wake up, don’t be another LGE domestic. Blah.
There are QR codes hidden in the trailer. Very cool.
Statham + Foster is such a badass combination that Chuck Norris is looking over his shoulder.
In general, every film Jason Statham is in, I feel like I’ve already seen. Before I’ve seen it. In this case… Oh, I actually have.
Could I be less interested…..? Checking….. No.
Awful. Pure dreck. The original movie was a suspenseful low-key drama. This is just noisy crap. They have no right to call this a remake it’s a generic bad B-movie the kind Avi Lerner churns out at Nu Image and before him Golan and Globus did this crap. A remake could have been smart but they decided to dumb it down and blow it up. Irwin Winkler should be ashamed of himself. Watch the original on DVD or even on YouTube.
And suddenly it looks good.
The original doesn’t hold up well (I watched it last night via Netflix streaming) but this new version looks much better especially because of the underrated Foster and what look like well-staged action set pieces.
In short, this is a very good trailer.
This picture is definitely in the ‘Movies for the Bored & Brainless’ category.
They kind of destroyed what the original Mechanic film was all about. Bronson took care of things low-key. This just looks like typical Statham fodder with no plot.
Any film with Ben Foster in it is instantly elevated to the “garbage bin” category.
Have they restored the gay subplot (that Bronson demanded be cut) in Lewis John Carlino’s 1972 script? Because that’s the only way the story made dramatic sense, which the original didn’t.
Never heard that before about the original screenplay but knowing what I now know about Charles Bronson (a talented actor within certain limits but also a major asshole) it doesn’t surprise me that he’d cut it.
I wonder if this film will begin with a 15 minute suspenseful as all get out, dialogue-free scene, like in the original. Probably not. And, that is what is wrong with modern movies. They’re afraid of the tension that the quiet brings.
