New York, NY (January 14, 2011) – Production companies Point West Pictures (principals Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm) and Red Granite Pictures (principals Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland) announced today the start of principal photography in New York City on the independent feature film, Friends With Kids. Also producing are Joshua Astrachan (A Prairie Home Companion) and Lucy Barzun Donnelly (Grey Gardens) through their LOCOMOTIVE banner and Jake Kasdan (the upcoming Bad Teacher). The film is executive produced by John Sloss and the legendary Mike Nichols (The Graduate).
Friends With Kids, written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein, Ira & Abby), is a daring and poignant ensemble comedy about a close-knit circle of friends at that moment in life when children arrive and everything changes. The last two singles in the group – Westfeldt and Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Stepbrothers), observe the effect that kids have had on their friends’ relationships and wonder if there’s a better way. They decide to have a kid together – and date other people.
There are big laughs and unexpected emotional truths as this unconventional ‘experiment’ leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family and, finally, true love.
The friends with kids include Jon Hamm (Mad Men, The Town) and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live), as well as Maya Rudolph (Away We Go) and Chris O’Dowd (Gulliver’s Travels).
Megan Fox plays Scott’s love interest and Edward Burns plays Westfeldt’s.
Friends with Kids is Westfeldt’s directorial debut and the third installment as writer/star/producer in Westfeldt’s exploration of the most unconventional ways to approach love (Kissing Jessica Stein), marriage (Ira & Abby) and, in this film, children.Friends With Kids is the first film produced by Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm through their new POINTS WEST PICTURES shingle and the first produced by Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland through their banner RED GRANITE PICTURES.

Sounded good until I got to the part about Megan Fox! Box office poison! She can’t act her way out of a paper bag. She is not that hot and annoying as hell. What were they thinking???
I had the same thought, Michael! It sounded pretty good and then I hit the words “Megan Fox” and it went downhill fast!
might want to mention that Hamm and Westfeldt are also partners in their personal lives.
I think they were thinking they can ship a lot of DVDs with Megan Fox on the box
Does Points West have a point person/executive or just Hamm and Westfeldt?
This sounds like a worthwhile contribution to the world.
I don’t know what Megan Fox is doing there, but I trust Westfeldt and the rest of that cast so it must all make sense.
WOW… Sounds like an amazing cast. Glad to see Megan is surrounding herself with great actors and great material. Can’t wait to see this film! Just had my first child and man is it tough!!!
This kind of story only appeals to folks who don’t go out and see movies anymore. Remember The Switch? How about The Dilemma? How many serial ticket buyers have even used the word “dilemma” in say 30 years?
I am assuming Mike Fleming and not the production companies wrote the release? Yes, Mike Nichols is lengendary but in the same vein John Hamm is handsome. Why not tell us how you feel on each one of the names mentioned? If Mike was a homeless man that came into a lot of money to back the project, what would you have said about him. Is it your way of courting favor with Mr. Nichols and losing sight of what your real job is….
That being said, I love Mike. I have worked with him on Birdcage,Primary Colors, What Planet are you From?(not so lengendary there though). To me he was always gracious. His wit was biting and funny. But at work really never thought of him as the Lengendary Mike Nichols-just Mike. BTD
Inane.
I dont think so-puffery just to curry favor and pointing it out-is not inane. It is an intellectual genius that has the mind to detect where facts are blurred for ulterior motives.
Guess the politics before they destroy you.
BTF
Maya, John and Kristen all star is Bridesmaids this year…they must like working together
Been hoping for Westfeldt to get back into filmmaking. Missed her since Kissing Jessica Stein!
Michael, I agree with you concerning Megan Fox. Instead of focusing on her sexuality, she needs to work on her acting.
Sounds good congratulations on John Hamm;
but how many thousands of producers need to be on one project. They all actually work or just pass their work along to the next in line hierarchy of an orchestra that are minor producers.
Michael Lake, give megan a break…stop hating….asshole
Hating on Megan is so 2010. She’s in good company in this film…let her live.
Does Point West Pictures have a NY casting department where Actor’s submissions can be made for future projects?
What about this sounds good to anyone here? It’s self-indulgent yuppie bullshit, and another toe in the shallow end of existentialism. But maybe some of you dug “motherhood” too.
