EXCLUSIVE: Multihyphenated Jonah Hill has launched his own production company, JHF. In the company’s first major move, JHF has signed a first-look TV development deal with Fox. Under the deal, Fox has bought an untitled single-camera comedy spec written by Hill, which he may direct. The network will also have first rights to future JHF projects in television. “Jonah is one of the most prolific young talents in comedy today, and possesses a fearless, wickedly smart sensibility that’s perfect for FOX,” said Fox’s entertainment president Kevin Reilly.
Hill is already in business with Fox. He co-created and voices the lead character in the animated comedy Allen Gregory, which has received a seven-episode order by the network for a premiere next season. The series, which Hill co-created with Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Chernin Entertainment and JHF. It follows an extremely accomplished 7-year-old embarking on the greatest challenge of his life: attending elementary school.
“Now I can finally make that show I’ve always wanted to make about high school kids singing and dancing in some sort of a ‘singing-club’ type program at their school. Wait…what? There already is a show like that on FOX? What? It’s like the most popular show ever? Uh oh,” Hill quipped. “I wanted to create JHF so I and all of the talented writers I know could write funny and interesting television shows that we’d love to see: Allen Gregory being the first, and hopefully many more to follow. I am a lucky guy to get to do what I do for a living, and hope to help create that opportunity for talented young writers and performers.”

First Ashton creates a Katalyst and lights the world on fire with comedy. Then Justin Berfield goes Virgin Produced with Sir Richard Branson now Jonah! Great to see young comedic actors expand!
Great to see Fox TV giving Jonah a golden parachute, now that Bob Burgers and his feature career have tanked…
His feature career like Get Him to the Greek, Superbad and Cyrus — three of the better regarded (and successful) comedies of the past decade? I’m not a rep or anything; those are just the facts.
although I do appreciate you couching your opinion by saying “better regarded” and yes they were successful (although Greek was much better the first time around when it was called My Favorite Year), Superbad was sort of okay (long as you were on your meds) and I’ve never heard of Cyrus but the one review i read on IMDB said it’s definitely not a comedy, more like a drama with comedic elements. (i’m not sure if that’s Hill or Reilly). But lets face it, this is Fox tying Hill down (probably for a song) so they can pressure him to do voices for their money making franchises like Family Guy and the Simpsons. as a talent, he’s fine, good enough but he’ll never be the go-to funny fat guy i.e. Belushi, Candy or Farley. But go Johah, go!
What does Jonah Hill have to do with Bob’s Burgers?
“Talented young writers and performers” – at what age does a writer or performer cease to be young? 30? 35? 40? 29?
30 sounds about right
I don’t know about Ashton ” lighting the world on fire with comedy” ? That is a major overstatement. Kutcher is not synonymous with first rate comedy.
Tanked? Really ? GREEK made 100 mill worldwide and scored on DVD and PPV. Critics loved him in Cyrus. And aside from that he’s just taken on small roles in other films.
Also, how’s your career doing? For starters… your name is Ralph…. now you finish the story
I was under the impression that people were disappointed with Greek’s returns — that after Sarah Marshall and all the other Apatow productions, they were expecting that to crack 100 domestic. Its performance certainly cooled the jets on the Russell Brand hype machine.
He does this after firing Principato-Young as managers? This kid was their biggest client.
When they stop making money.
Hooray for Jonah Hill!
Sharon must be proud of her little boy. I’m interested to see what becomes of Allen Gregory with Goodman showrunning it. I give Jonah credit, he’s quite prolific.
Jonah Hill and Michael Cera had an awesome, amazing 15 minutes. But those 15 minutes are just about over, as their incredibly specific speaking patterns and mannerisms are now boring. Just like how Vince Vaughn over-did his fast-talking act and now his films are unwatchable versions of his Old School/Wedding Crashers character in different situations.
I couldn’t agree with Mario Cookies more. I’m sharing your comment with everyone I know because I can’t stop laughing. Thank you Mario Cookies, you made my day!
add jesse eisenberg to that list. he’s a one trick pony with his hipster lisp.
The only difference is he’s an oscar-nominated one trick pony. Which, it turns out, is a pretty big difference.
I think I speak for most of us when I say, “Lame.” I loved Superbad though. There should be more teen buddy comedies put in the pipeline.
I find Jonah disturbingly unhealthy looking. He’s a heart attack waiting to happen. How about getting in shape instead of looking like his generation’s Chris Farley or John Belushi – we know what happened to them.
But then he won’t be funny. You can’t be a fat man funny man and get skinny.
Another shining example of mediocrity. FOX actually has a diversity program for talent, but clearly that’s just for show. Pathetic.
I’ve worked with Jonah and here’s the thing @yougottabekiddin – if Jonah Hill was THIN, he wouldn’t get any work. He gets these roles because there are no other funny chubby actors out there in his age range. Even if he WAS thin, He’s not good looking or lovable enough to get lead work (like Seth Rogen), and he’s so oddball awkward in his speech patterns and delivery that he’d be distracting in a true lead role. The kid has some writing talent, but he’s just another chubby stoner who got lucky and made the right friends… But he should cash in now, because just like Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller are finding out – you only have about 10 years in this business where you are REALLY profitable and then you’re yesterday’s news.
You are right. Zach Galifinakis was a good looking struggling thin comic in NYC for a decade. Once he got fat and grew a beard – wingo, he’s a genius.
Um, Zach was never thin. Ever.
for the record, zach was or has never ever been thin. ever.
Yes he was! Early 90′s. Check out his headshot, ftrecord.
I was under the impression that Little Fockers not withstanding, Stiller was still consistently having hit after hit unlike anyone this side of Will Smith. I mean, other than Heartbreak Kid, have any of his other big budger films (i.e. not Greenberg) flopped?
This is idiotic. You think Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller are hurting financially? What’s the difference between REALLY profitable and just plain old profitable? And who says that everyone whose merely profitable cares that they’re not in the higher echelon? Believe it or not, some people are happy being very wealthy and very successful, even if they’re not the most wealthy and the most successful.
Of all the people in Hollywood to hate on, why Jonah? He’s a genuinely nice and humble guy with a great sense of humor. Save the hate for the pretentious and self-important.
When you’re unemployed and untalented is there a mandatory number of comments you have to leave on this website, or does it change day to day?
Jonah Hill is one of the funniest guys out there, he writes a lot of his own stuff, and everyone who knows him says he’s down to earth.
So why all the hatred? I mean, except for the fact that your life sucks.
My life sucks and I actually like Jonah Hill.
I draw a distinction between him and the films he’s in, because Superbad did nothing for me while Get Him To The Greek made me laugh (not at Russell Brand though. Somebody please press ‘flush’ on him) and also showed Hill could draw audience sympathy. Cyrus I found to be anything but a comedy, with Hill playing a borderline psycho who, I thought, would fire up a chainsaw any second. But again, for me, he revealed he has potential for depth and range and could move beyond comedy.
Aesthetics aside though, he really does have to lose weight because fatness/obesity is a health issue and if he doesn’t have problems now, he will sooner or later.
I’m not a hater and actually like a lot of Hill’s work, but at the same time it’s hard to swallow because a female comedienne with his physical attributes will never ever ever ever ever EVER be toplining studio features and signing first look deals. No matter how hilarious or talented she is.
It just gets old seeing guys like Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen (and Michael Cera and Jason Segel) getting tons of work, but the female comic actors have to look like Sarah Silvermann and now Olivia Munn, etc…etc…
I know, the whole double standard thing in entertainment ain’t news but it does seem like it’s getting a lot out of hand.
What about the chick from those Madea movies? She is horrible looking, and continues to rake in huge bucks.
Roseanne & Brett Butler kind of disprove this, although to be fair, they were given their shot by the legendary Marcy Carsey & Tom Werner. Your point is well stated.
I hear ya. In this town, females must have the F-Factor (gotta be f-able), otherwise dudes lose interest. Cute trumps funny every time for the gals.
I was looking for the like button then I remembered that this isn’t facebook… But I totally agree.
Not like ole Hollywood to reward bad behavior. This slob is an arogant, unhealthy, mean spirited, unhappy prick. I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire and he is possibly one of the most unfunny humans alive. Rock on FOX!
