McG is the choice to direct Ouija, the Universal Pictures supernatural action adventure that will follow Battleship as the next Hasbro branded property to move into production. Scripted by Tron: Legacy writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the film is being produced by Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir along with Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Production will begin by the summer, for release November 12, 2012. McG’s about to begin negotiations.
The big-scale movie has had directors circling it since October, after Universal moved back the Rob Letterman-directed Taylor Lautner-attached Stretch Armstrong’s start date, making Ouija the next Hasbro pic to follow Battleship, which opens May 18, 2012. Ouija, launched by Parker Brothers in 1966, has sold over 12 million copies. Hasbro acquired it in 1991.
McG is in post-production on the Fox comedy This Means War, which stars Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. He’s repped by WME and Management 360.

The Ouija movie has already been made – it’s called The Excorcist.
No, it was called Witchboard.
That’s a silly comment. I’m not defending a Ouija movie, but that’s just an ignorant comment.
McG doesn’t re-do ideas that have already been done because he’s such a great storyteller…
The nerve.
Universal seems determined to put itself out of business.
I’ve never seen (or felt) more ill will toward such inane movie ideas. And the Oscar for stupidity goes to…
Why on earth?! so they want an expensive film that gets mediocre reviews and does mediocre business? how uninspiring this is.
They’re going through board games and toys for film stories now…God help us, please….
McG! He’s awesome! I just took out my board, dimmed the lights, lit some candles and the planchette…just…moved…to…”NO.”
*Just* no?
Exactly. (Beat me to it.)
curious to see how this one plays out. Uni is being forced into making a OUIJA movie right now thanks to that dumb deal that they signed, hence BATTLESHIP likely being T.O.A. (a turkey on arrival). OUIJA could be fun. I’m thinking something along the lines of JUMANJI, but not sure McG can capture that tone. Still yet to be fully impressed by him as a director.
T4 was a debacle. WE ARE MARSHALL should have been a much better film thanks to a great Jamie Linden script. And well, people like the CHARLIE’S ANGELS films, but I don’t think they scream “filmmaker!”
So we’ll see. He’s still getting jobs and he’s a strong producer. So we’ll see.
Didnt Joe Johnston direct and Larry Franco produce a game board theme movie called Jumangi(1995) Seriously what can this hack bring to the movie contemplated here. Jumangi was way ahead of its time when you think about. Universal better have a locked script ready to go And not say we have the outline of one lets cast the movie-see what happens. Between Peter Berg(and his shaky camera) and McG a minimum of 400 million is wrapped up in these two projects-conservatively. You need focus and fortitude to get your head around these movies-neither one has it. Bombs away on the Battleship. And the Ouija board is moving to focus on the executive pushing these projects. BTD
I find this trend embarrassing. Anyone else?
what no Yatzee, the movie??? What about Go Fish IN 3D???
Still waiting for ‘Slinky, The Motion Picture.’
i can’t wait until the release of the action comedy ‘connect four – pretty sneaky sis’…
Best of the lot – very funny
Sorry, I’ve nothing better to write except L-M-A-O!!
You deserve more. Thanks for the laugh.
What, no Yahtzee the Movie?? What about Go Fish IN 3D?
Frank, you might be right, but this OUIJA is an action-adventure film. Exorcist is not.
“The big-scale movie has had directors circling it since October, after Universal moved back the Rob Letterman-directed Taylor Lautner-attached Stretch Armstrong’s start date, making Ouija the next Hasbro pic to follow Battleship, which opens May 18, 2012.”
How does one distinguish between this paragraph and something that might appear in the Onion? The Stretch Armstrong Movie? Shoot me now. Please.
This film isn’t a slasher pic. It’s very National Treasure/Indiana Jones.
From the writers of Tron Legacy, the director of Terminator Salvation and Charlies Angels Full Throttle and the studio making Battleship vs. Aliens comes a movie based on a board game that Hasbro didn’t create.
Comcast should let these guys program NBC.
I still think McG ranks as one of the douchiest nicknames, behind only “The Situation” and “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince”.
at least Prince had good business reasons. he wanted to record and not do so under a crappy contract. changing his name was the only way. as for the other two… good point.
McG’s resume: Charlie’s Angels, Terminator: Salvation… Why? Why? Why?
candyland, the movie. monopoly, the movie. slinky, the movie. tiddlywinks, the movie. ball attached to a string attached to a cup, the movie.
one of these has to be in development right now.
Ask and you shall receive…

Monopoly at one point had Ridley Scott attached to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star. I shit you not. Been dying to get a look at that script.
I’m working on a screenplay called, “Gin.” SPOILER ALERT… the hero knocks with 3.
Sorry McG, but this script is really bad.
OUIJA had the potential to be one of the better Hasbro properties. It SHOULD have been more PARANORMAL ACTIVITY in tone, rather than NATIONAL TREASURE. I mean come on, it’s OUIJA this should be obvious! Just because you can spend 70 million, doesn’t mean you have to.
There are certain things that whether you believe or not… should not be tampered with. That piece of plastic moves. The laws of physics says it shouldn’t, but it does and can’t be explained. Things didn’t go well for anyone after “The Exorcist.” I’m just saying, do your homework McG.
Totally agree, David.
This is the first that I’ve heard of the new boardgame sourced pictures. It’s not April Fool’s day, but the article reads like an elaborate prank. I refuse to believe that a Stretch Armstrong and Battleship movie are in the works.
I”ve read the script, it’s HORRIBLE. Kitses can’t write at all. All he does is sit around and tell bad jokes while Horowitz does all the work. This was truly one of the worst screenplays I’ve ever read… Another ridiculous decision by Universal — might be the last one Donna Langley makes…
McG…..the only director who makes Uwe Boll look competent.
Get ready for McG’s flowing hubris total lack of self-awareness as he spouts off in interview after interview a la T4 about how he is reinventing the “gameboard genre” and that he is a master filmmaker a la DeMille. The soul dead and clueless Hollywood suits lap up his “fabulousness in the room” time after time, unable to comprehend that he is actually an epic creativity killer.
LAUGHABLE IF THIS WASN’T SO CRINGE-INDUCING!
And yes, I know really talented people who have been left for crumbs in his wake. This guy deserves to go down crying.
