McG knows a thing or two about directing reboots of classic franchises featuring ass-kicking gals having helmed the two Charlie’s Angels movies. Now my colleague, TVLine’s Michael Ausiello, is reporting that McG has emerged as the odds-on favorite to direct David E. Kelley’s freshly greenlit Wonder Woman pilot for NBC and Warner Bros. TV. Sources stress that there are no talks going on as McG has not met on the project yet, but word is that he is considered a fronturnner for the job. While a very active TV producer with 4 series on the air, Chuck, Supernatural, Nikita and Human Target, McG rarely directs in TV as he’s been keeping busy in features. His only previous TV directing gigs are helming the pilots for Chuck and Fastlane, both projects developed and produced by McG’s WBTV-based company.

hack
This might actually be smart idea. The 1st Charlie’s Angels movie wa very, very good.
Jesus God. Will somebody stop this fool.
Like him or not, this guy delivers what the public wants to see.
And “what the public wants to see” is the real problem with Hollywood movies. Calling Michael Bay…
Not so fast…
He delivers what MOVIE audiences want to see. He’s a hit in the 12-25 demo. But TV isn’t targeting that demo, it’s 18-49. (although NBC would probably be grateful for anyone… cats, dogs and goldfish even)
Can we please stop calling him McG? Lamest nickname ever.
BRIDGET REGAN is the perfect Wonder Woman.
While she would be great for the role, she just had a baby less than a month ago. She’s probably going to sit this one out.
Busy in features since when?
Uhhh…just wrapped “This Means War” with Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy.
And has been in talks to do several others. So, about 95% then most film makers these days.
Adrianne Palicki would be perfect for Wonder Woman. She’s brunette, 5’11 and over 6 ft in high heels, Beautiful. All she would need to do is add a few muscles at the gym and she’s good to go.
Prediction:
They cast an unknown British actress to play Wonder Woman. They spend $11 million on the pilot and it looks awesome, gets ordered to series. Then the producers then argue with the network over the fact that the British actress they forced on them can’t act very well while doing an American accent, they force her to do anyway and McG quits.
And when the next three episodes lose 50% of the viewership that came in for the pilot NBC thinks that Wonder Woman needs a boyfriend to add “intrigue” allowing her to play up the secret identity thing…aaaaannnnndddd…. Cancelled after 9 episodes.
Here’s a tip for NBC… take that $11 mil and put it in a nice CD with 4% interest and talk to me this time next year.
It’s funny cause it’s true. I think you nailed it.
Hilarious!
A test pattern would be more exciting than this pathetic attempt to revive Wonder Woman.
McG? Seriously? Guy can’t direct his way out of traffic.
the worse that can happen is that mg manages to direct the pilot so it does wonder woman right and goes to series. though he could try and scrap the vigilantie by night part of the concept for it makes her sound more like david is trying to turn wonder woman into a female version of batman.
This will be great lots of slow motion freeze frame action just like Charlie’s Angels. I can’t wait to watch it.
Thank you Kopelson’s kid…you said it very simply…What films???..Where are his box office hits??? Not to mention, besides being a hack who got a lucky break…… unfortunately, it’s time we call him on the arogance and rudiness exhibited at his production company…his no name development woman is an embarrasement to him and herself.. And any success he’s fortunately had has NOTHING to do with him but the amazing creative talent they surrounded him with,so he doesnt fall on his face…costing them even more money…Believe me,he’s a joke in the creative community
FWIW, his films have grossed $1 billion, worldwide. This post sounds like it came from someone who either got passed over for a job or someone who’s pitch didn’t go too hot. It’s sniping season.
Wesley French for the guy?
Christian Bale has a thing or two to say about McG.
Had no idea what “McG” referred to, so I looked it up in Wikipedia.
Could it be that this guy has gotten paid insane sums of money for mostly _NOT_ delivering what was planned and conceived as movie projects, and for bailing out of projects after spending lots of other people’s money on them?
That’s certainly the impression one gets when reading through his Wikipedia article…..
Wikipedia is not a reliable source.
Not that I wanted this pilot to work, but this thing has already failed. Anyone see how horrible The Cape has been. The only thing that NBC is good as is turning people on to Cable television.
NBC now has Bob Greenblatt at the helm. It was the previous regime that greenlit The Cape.
Gemma Arterton
I’d vote for Yvonne Strahovski.
I’m not the biggest McG fan, but the pilots for Fastlane and Chuck were really good, with a lot of slick action.I think the Chuck pilot was the first time I’d ever seen parkour on TV.
pilot for fastlane was a direct rip off of pilot for miami vice. almost scene for scene in places.
I see the intellectual braintrust at WB is doing a bangup job.
I guess “sweepstakes” pitching for the movie never worked out.
Then there’s the decision to “reboot” Lethal Weapon.
And don’t forget the real reason Jonah Hex bombed. Noooooo it was a heavily rewritten script (originally done by the Crank hacks). Noooooo it wasn’t the 50% slash in the budget. And Noooo it wasn’t Megan Fox’s fault. According to a WB hack, Jonah Hex tanked because they “covered Josh Brolin’s beautiful face in makeup”
Eee fucking gads, WB
No Jonah Hex bombed because it was Jonah Hex.
Not a fan of McG. Having said that, this is the perfect project for him!!
First Whedon, then Whedon benched.
Now David E and McG.
All three are good, solid, girl power-related high profile types (well, at least the first two). All that girl power but….couldn’t they have tried to hire a biological female on the creative side? Oh wait, this is showbiz. No one hires women to do stuff like that…even on girl power projects.
Ballspower:
Which is why I have a sinking feeling that the next announcement is something like “Wonder Woman to be written by Diablo Cody”. Good Lord.
Which is why my next fear is an announcement that it will be written by Diablo Cody.
When you start your comment saying “uhhh”, and add details like you did…everyone knows it’s you. Wear a fake mustache next time. That’ll fool em.
oops. sorry.
