MSNBC did pretty well with its State of the Union telecast, drawing 2.5 million viewers, up 4% from last year’s address, and the only cable news network to increase its audience year-to-year. It was also on par with last year’s ratings for the analysis immediately following President Barack Obama’s speech. But then things went downhill. From 11 PM-12 AM, MSNBC averaged 1.1 million viewers, down 24% from last year. The difference? Last year, the network had Keith Olbermann anchoring the hour. (To be exact, Countdown with Keith Olbermann aired from 10:45-11:45PM last January.) So 3 days after Olbermann’s abrupt exit on Friday night, MSNBC brass may be missing him already.

HA ha! It’s incredible. The shite that celebs like Charlie Sheen gets away with, and Olbermann feels forced to quit??? MSNBC deserves to fail.
Couldn’t agree more. Haven’t watched anything on MSNBC since he left.
Meanwhile at Faux News, there’s a Hooters waitress masquerading as a journalist.
And MSNBC had a sportscaster impersonating a political commentator. What’s your point?
Well, post State of the Union may have been down because of…a real lack of fire and substance in the speech itself. Not much to discuss, nor trust.
yeah Bush was awesome
Wow – someone feeling sorry for Propaganda Minister Herr Olbermann?
Whatever.. it was the right thing to do and MSNBC knew that. He’s a liability.
For what? Telling the truth?
Yeah, I guess that CAN be a liability.
Looks like NBC/Uni (now Comcast) pushes out all its ratings grabbers. Wonder if Jay Leno will pick up Olbermann’s time slot?
The only shows worth a damn are Morning Joe and the Dylan Ratigan show because you actually learn something. They really need to pump some blood over there. Maddow. Olberman. O’donnell. Schultz. They’re borderline insufferable. And I’m a liberal. How about a show that strictly deals with what’s going on in Congress in various local districts throughout the USA?
One night? MSNBC has been in the ratings cellar since Olbermann, Maddow and Matthews have been their prime time line-up. Most people know exactly what they are dishing and few except the most die hard lefties believe a word these people say. Keith Olbermann was a liability and helped make MSNBC a laughing stock. Even some of my more liberal-minded friends found him to be an embarrassment. It won’t take much to improve the fortunes at MSNBC: Fire everyone at the network and start fresh.
WTF are you talking about? MSNBC’s ratings have soared since Olbermann and Maddow came on board. You don’t know what the cellar is, unless you looked at the network’s ratings before Olbermann came along.
Meanwhile over at CNN, Piers Morgan was trying to spit out an idea and failing miserably.
Obama had the perfect opportunity to denounce lenient gun control background checks on those who get them and have a mentally unstable history when he mentioned the empty chair of the Ariz congresswoman shot in Tucson. He is not a leader. He is just a law prof. Obama had the same opportunity to be commander in chief after the Fort Hood Army Station massacre in 2009 and mention that he is a terrorist and not just a killer. Obama sells 4 yr college degrees to everyone yet most high school grdo not the basic skills to benefit from a college ed.
I didn’t know MSNBC had 24% that it could drop….
