Wonder Woman will fly this pilot season after all. New NBC entertainment president Bob Greenblatt capped a day of high-profile pilot pickups with a surprise order to David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman reboot. Additionally, he formally greenlighted another hourlong project from an A-list showrunner, Michael Patrick King’s Mann’s World. Both shows hail from Warner Bros. TV. Meanwhile, the commitment to the J.J. Abrams/WBTV-produced drama Odd Jobs starring Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn, whose script came in very late, is being rolled to next season when it will be applied to the same or new Bad Robot project. And Greenblatt has passed on the Josh Schwartz/WBTV supernatural drama Ghost Angeles starring Rachel Bilson.
WBTV took Kelley’s Wonder Woman spec out to the networks in the first week of January. At the time, NBC was the most interested but, with Greenblatt still on the sidelines, the network couldn’t commit to the type of license fee that the studio was seeking in order to do the show Kelley had envisioned, and WBTV decided to shelve the project. With Greenblatt now firmly taking the reins and Kelley just delivering one of the most promising new series for NBC this season, Harry’s Law, NBC stepped up to greenlight Wonder Woman. The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. “I had a lot of fun writing it,” Kelley said of the script at TCA last week when the project had just been put on hold. “It’s a huge project, and it was probably a bit too much to ask anyone to try to chew on it for next season. But I’m confident it will still happen. It’s a very complicated piece, which is the most fun thing about it.”
Mann’s World, which King will also direct, is a one hour drama following the complicated life of Allan Mann, a celebrity hair stylist in glamorous Los Angeles as he navigates the complexities of his business, his family life, and his goal to stay relevant in a world that moves quickly. The project is already casting.
The orders for Wonder Woman and Mann’s World come hours after Greenblatt greenlighted musical pilot Smash, based on an idea by and executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

For those of us “gay boyz” who grew up idolizing WW , can we please just have this ONE? how many male action heroes do
They do movies/tv about?!? Can the power be endorsed by anything other than buff men & Angie Pitt?!? Maybe it will be campy , maybe a little cheese , but perhaps a little boy or girl will identify with trying to make a difference in a strange land . Maybe they will understand that the power bestowed upon them by Mum is enough to “Change The World”!
Yes, the SATC MOVIES were horrible but everyone seems to forget the TV show was brilliant…give Mr King a chance. After all, he’s back in television where he seems to belong.
I think Jordana Brewster should play Wonder Woman. She’s Latin too.
Ghost Angeles would be great for The CW. Rachel Bilson would give the network a hot big name talent. They’ve got a lot of up and comers but she’s already established herself and the public knows who she is so it would be interesting to see a bigger name on the CW.
One woman was born to play Wonder Woman- Nadia Bjorlin!
She’s tall and pretty. She’s could definitely be in the running. But first she has to get rid of that HORRIBLE spray tan she seems to be sporting in all her picks. Can she act? Does she have a presence on screen? I’ve only seen pictures of her and all I see is orange.
HAHAHAHAHA…
“The project is described as a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman — aka Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.”
Wow, if you can’t read that and instantly smell something as cliched and tired as any typical TV treatment approach…not to mention a complete bastardization of what Wonder Woman is supposed to be, as both a comic property and a character, then you seriously need to get a clue.
And if you like that description, you are either (1) David Kelly who smells a new paycheck coming in OR you are (2) NBC, who did the usual network lameness of saying “Hey, we got one deal going with him, so we might as well get in bed even more with the guy” OR finally you are (3) management at DC Comics, where you’re just thankful that you made another media sale since your Hollywood success (compared to Marvel’s) has stunk to high heaven.
Based on the description, I can already predict the review for this this: CRAPTACULAR!
There’s only one actress who’s perfect for Wonder Woman.
Evangeline Lilly.
Cast her and you have a hit show.
Cast anyone else and it’ll fail.
I’d watch that. She is the best!
…No.
That would be AWESOME
I was thinking of her too! She’s tough, smart, beautiful and a brunette. But is she tall enough? And shouldn’t WW be busty? If she is cast, I wouldn’t mind. Regardless, it’s gonna be one i’m gonna watch.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. I mean, yeah, maybe these happen to have been executed well… But they sound like terrible shows picked up because they have big names behind them, not good ideas.
With Charlies Angels and now Wonder Woman coming back to the small screen, I am wondering if the “Women Beating Up Men” tren is rearing its ulgy head again?
Megan Fox could play the roll of wonder woman…
IF she could act her way out of a wet paper bag
…and she grew about a foot.
All you idiot fanboys whining about WW is “Breaking from canon”(NO one aside from a couple of thousand hardcore comicgeek losers care…) and/or fantasy casting you “wetdream unknown actress hottie” sound just like the same idiot fanboys whining before “Smallville” premiered….10 years later, a generation considers it the modern definitive origin story for Superman…to the point that many people are lobbying for Tom Welling in the new Zak Snyder/Nolan “Super” movie.
Given his long track record, I give David E Kelley MUCH more benefit of the doubt than a few bitching, living in their parents basement loser ubergeeks.
When someone — like “Voice of Reason” above — feels the need to come online and defend the latest pop culture/media thing by getting all snarky and labeling those who object “fan boys” or “ubergeeks”…or even resorts to the truly tired and lame crack that the critics must be “living in their parents’ basement”…that is when you KNOW a piece of utter garbage is being foisted on the public.
And (most likely) it’s NOT the fan boys in the basement who are posting away, but rather someone involved with the production itself, desperately trying to spin doctor online word about the project, so people won’t know (at least not yet) what utter GARBAGE the property is.
The description sounds HORRIBLE. It doesn’t sound like WONDER WOMAN done by David Kelly…instead it sounds like just another typical David Kelly show, where they are then simply licensing the Wonder Woman NAME and slapping it on, to try and get some attention drawn to the show. Worst of all, the description doesn’t even make the show sound UNIQUE, which is what you’d think a new WONDER WOMAN show would easily be.
Oh yeah — and given SMALLVILLE’s ratings, the idea that an “entire generation” considers it to be “the definitive origin story of Superman” means nothing since that would be an entire generation of about 20 people!
You’ve just proved every nerdboy rage stereotype VoiceOfReason was laughing at. There are “a couple of thousand hardcore comicgeek losers”. About 200,000 all told. Just look at all comic book sales numbers. Very noisy in their internet rages, but a very tiny group.
David E Kelly is a successful TV producer. Much more successful than whatever obscure comic book writer that fanboys wish were running the show. Kelly’s Wonder Woman might even last a few seasons. Fanboy-run Wonder Woman wouldn’t last two episodes, before the public asks “What is this ridiculous shit?! Thong-Bikini-Girl fighting Cheetah Girl at a United Nations session?!” Canceled.
As for Smallville, “a generation considers it the modern definitive origin story for Superman”. Fair statement. In typical nerdboyism you attempt to refute him by saying, “Well by the end of its run, the show has weak ratings!” You can say that about every show. Duh. Granted there is the rare Seinfeld or Friends, where they go out on top, but mostly shows end with ratings diminished. During its run, Smallville had periods where the domestic live viewers were four times where they are now. It still pulls in maybe 30 million worldwide and has dominated the DVD charts continuously for 10 years. Far more teens have seen Smallville than will ever read a comic book. For them, Smallville is the origin for Superman. Rage away comic book nerd.
“Thong-Bikini-Girl fighting Cheetah Girl at a United Nations session?!” — I’d watch that. Are we talking pilot or mid-season cliffhanger?
Said the pot to the kettle.
I like the funny happenstance of Wonder Woman given a pilot pickup at the same time as a series called Mann’s World, considering Diana was sent to be the Amazonian ambassador to “Man’s World”. (One can only hope there will be some semblance of the mythological background of the character on the show. It sounds like they might be basing this off of J. Michael Straczynski’s recent “alternate timeline” origin storyline.)
I am getting the Bionic Woman or TSCC vibe. Good luck!
Adrienne Palicki is tall enough to play Wonder Woman. She would phenomenal in the role.
I agree shed way to short
What is this Vigilante crap?
And Smallville is crap and a joke. The guy is called the BLUR and he is a grown man and still can’t fly.
To be successful as Wonder Woman, shouldn’t she have a basic, fairly non-demanding 9 to 5 job?
ok…. another t.v that may get good ratings but after one season and a half they going to pull it from the internet ratings are going to drop and the show is going to get cancel ABC does it CBS does NBC is going to do it…. And these are the reasons I don’t watch television…. go for it at going to watch f*** TV…..
ok…. another t.v show that might get good ratings, but after one and a half seasons they going to pull it from the internet ratings are going to drop and the show is going to get cancel ABC did it to “V” CBS did it to “Jericho” NBC did it to “Heroes” So what’s the point? These are the reasons I don’t watch television…. go for it hope it turns out but until then f*** Television…..
( last message sucked i had to revise)
That is pretty much it in a nutshell!
Sarah Lancaster from Chuck should be Wonder Woman!

Dear Nerds:
It looks like Hollywood has decided to take another element of your subculture and present it to the mainstream via live-action entertainment. Unfortunately, to make it palatable to the widest possible audience, to make it finacially feasable, and to make it creatively fulfilling for those converting it to the new media, some changes will have to be made. In other words, your shit’s about to get all fucked up. More specifically, the more fantastic aspects of the property will toned down.
Take heart — you may like it anyway, or at least settle for it like some kind of entertainment methadone. Meanwhile, the rest of the world — the world that will determine if the translation is a success or failure — will be evaluating it based on a completely different criteria than yours.
Thems the breaks,
Mr. Mojo
You equate “Wonder Woman” exclusively with nerds? Really?
Ah, Mr. Mojo.
So cruel … yet so true.
If it is going to be anything like the original series than anyone with any amount of testosterone is going to be sorely disappointed. These things require an R-rated production approach or they’re just not worth it, but hoping for that is like saying 1+1=3. It is either cheesy and low budget production values or inoffensive with high production values. Count me out.
“These things require an R-rated production approach or they’re just not worth it”
Exhibit: ‘A’ in why people laugh off fanboy rages and whining.
So in order to make her sell make her into something she is not but use her name?
This is exactly like what WB did for Catwoman because they seems ashamed of what their actual heroine stands for.
Re imagining my butt. It’s not WW if you do not have certain elements there! She HAS fantastical, mythical elements. THAT is what she is. To deny her roots is saying Superman is not an alien from a dying planet but just got his powers from some experiment.
This sounds rubbish.
They better come better than this. or just change the property’s name to Batwoman.
I think Cobie Smulders should play Wonder Woman. She has the Wonder Woman look and body frame.
Marika Dominczyk.
Nice choice with Bridget Regan
