NBC is making changes to its midseason schedule. Dramedy Parenthood, which was slated to air 4 episodes in January in its regular Tuesday 10 time period, take a break and then move to the Monday 10 PM berth on March 7, will now remain in its Tuesday slot through the end of the season. Law & Order: Los Angeles, which was scheduled to take over the Tuesday 10 PM slot on Feb. 8, will now be held back, with its return date/slot TBD. The decision comes after two consecutive solid showings for Parenthood (2.3 and 2.2 Live + same day 18-49 rating), which came from winter hiatus 21% higher, as well as an OK premiere for Harry’s Law in the Monday 10 PM slot last night (2.1 demo rating and a time slot-winning audience of 11 million). NBC had planned to air only 6 of the 13 episodes of Harry’s Law on Mondays before Parenthood moved in; now it will extend the run of David E. Kelley’s newest legal drama. The move also won’t break Parenthood‘s current momentum. And last but not least, the decision to hold LOLA will give the Law & Order spinoff some breathing room as it is undergoing major creative changes.
On the unscripted side, NBC is moving series America’s Next Great Restaurant from Wednesdays to Sundays after good early feedback for the new series, including at last week’s TCA. It was supposed to premiere on March 16 in the Wednesday 9 PM slot. Now it will debut on Sunday, March 6, at 8 PM, leading into Celebrity Apprentice. It bumps the return of the Jerry Seinfeld-produced The Marriage Ref, which was scheduled to air in the Sunday 8 PM slot. That show is now put on hold. (It could slide into its original Thursday 10 PM slot should NBC’s 10 PM comedy block experiment not work out.) NBC has Chase airing in the Wednesday 9 PM time period for now. It will be succeed by Law & Order: SVU repeats after the procedural after it ends its shortened freshman season. Still no slot assignments/premiere dates for dramedy anthology Love Bites and comedies Friends with Benefits and The Paul Reiser Show.

Good. Harry’s Law is solid and seems likely to only get better and better. LOLA on the other hand…
Yes on Harry’s Law!
I was enchanted and laughing out loud. I so love Kathy Bates and her cast is solid so far with me. I may be in the minority, but I really liked LOLA. One reason was Skeet Ulrich. Better scripts and time to show what it can do might be a good idea.
They’re cancelling LOLA right? They can fire half the cast but that won’t change the fact that the writing and stories are lacking. Once the steam runs out of the Law and Order engine NBC is screwed.
LOLA is my favorite new show of the season. I hope it stays around.
I’m really happy to hear that Harry’s Law will be airing all 13 of its episodes instead of the originally planned 6 episodes. That’s definitely positive news!
MARRIAGE REF started off as painful and contrived, and never improved. Difficult to believe their best Plan B is to stockpile more logs of this turkey loaf. Very brave of me to say, isn’t it, knowing Seinfeld could track me down and smite me?
Marriage Ref is horrible, you’re right. Seinfeld is capable of much more as we know. Yet America continues to watch duds like “Minute to Win It” so I’m not sure what the future holds.
Loved Harry’s Law. Kathy Bates is long overdue for a tv show.
Parenthood is a 9:00 P.M. show. I don’t know why they haven’t put it there.
MARRIAGE REF should be benched for good. It’s hard to see how it got on the air to begins with but then against it had JS attached to it. Poorly produced, the show was a mess right out of the gate. Hopefully it will not see the light of day or night again.
Hmm… Maybe LOLA is regretting their decision to fire Skeet, Megan, and Regina?
Where is LOVE BITES?
I think that show will get a summer run along with paul reiser’s comedy.
Yay Parenthood! Naysayers, you can bemoan this show’s lack of ‘edgy’ plots, but it’s still a finely acted, superbly crafted hour of storytelling. Pa Ingalls would be proud.
Well, I hope LOLA gets their act together because I had to wait for its’ return. I think they should keep Skeet, but…,
Must be humbling for Jerry after being the centerpiece of one of the greatest shows in television history to now be attached to a run of the mill reality show. Still, I’m sure the 500. Mill in the bank helps.
NBC is run by idiots. No wonder they’re in last place.
Agreed, They can’t seem to identify a good thing when they stumble across it!!!!
Congratulations to NBC for keeping Parenthood on the air. Even though I agree it is more suited for 9pm, it is still a quality show, well acted and well written and deserves to be on the air.
You don’t find that many good family dramas on broadcast TV these days.
So glad to hear that Harry’s Law will get a full season! Kathy Bates was phenomenal in the pilot. Never liked the air 6 and leave the rest unscheduled “plan” from NBC. What about The Cape? Weren’t they screwed with a 6 and then unscheduled back 7 too?
Very smart to keep Parenthood right where they are. Especially now that the show is gaining some traction.
Is the American public suddenly so enchanted with NBC that we get one “I love, love, love Harry’s Law!” post after another? Me thinks no. I’d posit that the “I love Harry’s Law! Bates is Emmy worthy!” posts are posted by the usual NBC P.R. shills/hacks. If NBC put half the effort into developing quality as they do trying to manipulate the media they’d be better served and perhaps wouldn’t be the laughing stock of the town. I can tell you story after story about editors at the N.Y. Post and other places who are inundated by NBC flacks trying to get them to write a glowing fluff piece about some banal program. I believe these over-the-top posts on Deadline are from the same flack-quacks. I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking this. It’s pretty obvious who the trolls are.
Great to hear. Harry’s Law is a great show and it’s nice to see some decent folks on tv for a change. Hope it gets picked up for many more.
America’s Next Great Restaurant will air on Sundays, so that means The Voice will probably air against American Idol… NBC is run by idiots. I couldn’t agree more.
It’s a really funny show …if you have any brains to understand it
Great news about Parenthood. It is a quality show with a stellar cast. I hear Jason Katims is a great guy to work for. Also, wasn’t much of a fan of Craig T. Nelson until I started watching the show. He’s fantastic. Monica Potter’s pretty amazing too.

I think Tandy must work for CBS. Love Harry’s Law by the way!
Harry’s Law – so David Kelly and so extreme and stupid! You all watching the same show I watched? Parenthood has great potential but no way will it ever make a dent in The Good Wife. Put it at 9PM on any other night other than Tuesday. And, while I’m at it, 10PM on Tuesday is so jam packed with worthy shows (good wife, parenthood, Detroit 1-8-7, Lights Out, Southland) the viewers are the losers. You can’t record all of these shows, most don’t repeat, it’s not fair. Oh, well, networks just love to do “got ya” to the audience then complain that viewership is lagging and good new shows fall by the wayside because of stupid programming…
I agree (re: Harry’s Law). I was a huge fan of Boston Legal and I love Kathy Bates, so I really wanted to like it, but it’s, by far, the worst David E. Kelley pilot that I’ve seen. His legal comedies are usually smart and funny, but Harry Law wasn’t much of either…
I too thought Harry’s Law was excellent, with twists, turns and off-beat comedy mixed in. I’ll continue watching.
I’m disappointed that Friends With Benefits is not yet slotted at NBC. I think the show is hilarious and upfront here to say that I worked on it — great cast, solid writing.
Seems to me that Dick Wolf’s Disaster Area (aka LOLA) is a boon to NBC given that it’s forced the net to *stabilize* its current line-up, with fewer existing shows being moved around YET AGAIN and most new/returning shows getting swapped with departing/finished-up-their-seasons shows in the returning show’s timeslot (such as when the disastrously stupid (and I say this as a superhero fan/comics collector) The Cape finishes its run and the underrated-but-by-no-means-classic-as-of-yet The Event returns. Less confusion means lots fewer viewers will throw their arms up in frustration.
