As we reported back in October, USA Network is bringing back WWE Tough Enough as its first reality series in 5 years. The top cable network this morning announced it has given a ten-episode order to the a non-scripted series, which will be produced by Shed Media USA in collaboration with World Wrestling Entertainment. The show, featuring 12 contestants vying for the grand prize, a contract with WWE, will debut on April 4, the day after WrestleMania XXVII and immediately following USA’s staple WWE Monday Night Raw at 11 PM. It will then move to its regularly scheduled slot, Mondays at 8 PM. WWE Tough Enough originally ran on MTV for 3 seasons, and in 2004 it moved to UPN where it aired for a season as part of SmackDown. USA has been actively looking to re-enter the reality arena, beefing up its unscripted executive team and developing concepts for new series.

Amazed that USA is going to program something other than NCIS reruns in the 8 pm weeknight slot.
Also amazed that TOUGH ENOUGH is back, considering it was the pro wrestlers with pull (like HHH, who is Vince McMahon’s son-in-law) who successfully killed the concept in 2005. And now those same people, seeing the dearth of minor league talent for them to import, who went to USA and asked them to look into reviving the concept.
Well, there’s never a dearth of “minor league” talent…there are over a hundred independent wrestling promotions across the country and more in Europe, Japan and Mexico. WWE Scouts are always checking these guys. Plus they own a piece of Florida Championship Wrestling which is their official “minor league” where hot prospects are groomed and mentored.
“Tough Enough” when all was said and done was little more than a feeble attempt at a “Real World” knockoff.
Very smart of WWE to bring back Tough Enough , i’m hoping that they add some new ideas into the program and also keep the focus on th[e difficulty of becoming a WWE Superstar rather than the having lame MTV style conflicts between the contestants.

Kevin Dunn is right when he says that this will bring in some non-wrestling fans who normally do not watch the WWE, all the best to WWE with this new programs. Hey, who knows, it could get popular and catch fire like American Idol…..or maybe not.
I’m a wrasslin’ fan (go ahead, make with the snide little jokes) but even I have to say this is a head-scratcher.
1) Wrestling is no longer as hot as it used to be 2) The WWE has already had a revamped version of Tough Enough called “NXT” which started airing on the Sci-Fi network about this time last year. Same premise, it follows hopefuls as they seek to become pro-wrestlers. The first two seasons were low-rated affairs, prompting the third and fouth seasons to air on WWE.com. Yes, it airs on the web site.
Fans of the wrestling are really mostly interested in watching the show where the true stars appear. So the question is what happens to “NXT” now, and exactly how do they start differentiating this new “Tough Enough” from that show?
NXT was relegated to the Internet when SYFY cancelled it.
It will be missed by approximately 400 people.
As for the “dearth of talent,” I’m talking about the kind of guys WWE likes to recruit – 6 foot, 250 pound sons of former pro wrestlers.
Great. Now, can you guys get the rest of WWE off the SyFy Channel. C’mon NBC (and soon Comcast), get that crap off the science fiction channel. I know it’s all fiction, but it’s certainly not science!
Maybe they can get Mikey Henderson to do the show this time.
