CMT’s new sitcom, the Melissa Peterman/Ed Asner starrer Working Class, drew 1.2 million viewers and a .50 rating in adults 18-49 in its Friday premiere to rank as the highest rated and most watched series debut in the network’s history. Of course, Working Class is CMT’s first scripted series, so that means it outperformed all of the network’s reality series debuts. Working Class didn’t come close to the blockbuster summer premiere of TV Land’s first original sitcom, Hot In Cleveland (4.8 million), but is nevertheless off to a solid start, especially given its 8 PM timeslot and the lack of sitcom tradition on CMT.
Meanwhile, the second season finale of Style Network’s reality series Jerseylicious averaged 925,000 viewers, a series high and the most watched telecast in the network’s history.

Working Class was pretty funny – everyone should check it out!
It might have performed better had it aired at the promoted time on the west coast. Wanted to check it out so we turned on CMT at 8 pm, the advertised time for the west coast. Unfortunately, it had just ended (at least on the DirectTV feed) and we were subjected to 30 painful seconds of “My Redneck Wedding” before I could change the channel.
Scripted beat reality on cable? Is it 1995 again? Yay! Saw this one, too. Pretty damn good.
really funny show! The 16 yr old son Scott, is played an Aussie actor Lachlan Buchanan. Could not even tell, the accent was great.
Loved it, it was lots of fun. Very 90′s sitcom in a good way with likable characters and cast.
@Scott, must have been DirectTV, because it was on for us at 8. They’re airing it a whole bunch more before next Friday, check the CMT site for more times.
Oooh, love the Jerseylicious! I have to admit – I’m kind of hooked.
