UPDATE 11:20AM: Charlie Sheen has just arrived on the set of Two and a Half Men.
PREVIOUS: As Warner Bros TV and CBS nervously await to see if Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen will show up for work today after his weekend binge in Las Vegas (he is due at the studio later this morning), WBTV, the network, as well as the producers of the hit CBS comedy continue to search for ways to get Sheen help. I hear Sheen, described as a functioning addict, returned to work from holiday hiatus last week visibly slimmer (some estimate he may have lost as much as 25 lb.) His drastically changed appearance led to WBTV and CBS ramping up their efforts to shut down production on the show in the short term so Sheen can get clean.
But that didn’t fly with Sheen who has consistently refused to go to rehab. I hear he has retained lead litigator Marty Singer and has threatened to sue Warner Bros TV and CBS if they shut down production on the show without cause. And, with him refusing to see a doctor, the studio and the network would have to stop production with no legal reason. Additionally, if he refuses to enter rehab, staying at home instead of working would probably do more harm than good – Sheen seems to mostly get in trouble when he is off work, including his domestic violence arrest in December 2009 and his New York hospitalization this past November after a hotel room rampage.
WBTV, which signed Sheen in a new 2-year deal in May, as well as CBS have tried to help Sheen in different ways — I hear upon request from CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves, Sheen took in a sober living partner after the New York hotel incident. But that coach is no longer with him. Things came to a head last week when WBTV and CBS executives, concerned about Sheen’s well-being after the extreme weight loss, were in constant communication with Sheen and his team about shutting down production on the show. I hear there was even a statement to that effect prepared by CBS and WBTV on Friday. But, with resistance from Sheen, the statement about the production shutdown was never released.
Sheen was also slated to attend a high-level powwow with network and studio executives after the Friday taping of the show, but he reportedly bolted out right away, skipping the meeting. Another sit-down with him was scheduled for this week.
Then came the disturbing TMZ item yesterday that Sheen was seen hammering vodka at a Las Vegas hotel where he had been spending time in the company of porn actresses this past weekend. Which leads us to this morning. Sheen has not missed his call time yet and may very well show up for work as he normally does. But the people on the show who have worked with him for 7 years and care about him fear they may be running out of time to help the comedy star before it’s too late.

ISNT THERE ONE PERSON AMONG THE PEOPLE WHO CAN MAKE THIS DECISION WHO CARES FOR A LIFE MORE THAN THEY LOVE MONEY?
No one loves Charlie Sheen, we get that…thats why he’s here, but at the top of the food chain, the network head, studio head, show runner…isn’t there one person in recovery or who has overcome addiction themselves who will just shut this down…
ENABLERS!!!
Let Sheen be Sheen. I think he’s fine. Do you know how many guys would have loved to have the weekend he just had?
Simple answer:
NO.
Good question, is there anyone who loves Charlie Sheen more than money? I guess the answer is (obviously) no. As I see it, he is a horribly troubled soul and his ultra-liberal father and mother who both have “bleeding hearts” for damn near everyone, don’t recognize that their bleeding hearts for Charlie are what created this spoiled, selfish, arrogant and very troubled person.
As for CBS and Charlie’s “handlers” – they should be ashamed, very ashamed. Wonder how they’ll react/respond to his imminent death (or his murder charges, after he “goes off” again on one of his “escorts”.
The whole thing is disgusting.
And I have zero respect/sympathy for his ridiculous parents who created this insane monster!
You sir/madam, are an idiot. To think that his “bleeding heart liberal” parents are the cause of this guy’s woes? Charlie happens to have a show biz brother named Emilio who grew up under the influence of the same 2 parents, yet Emilio has no drug problems & appears to live a pretty stable, normal lifestyle. Explanation? Not the parents.
Now the really bad news: You’ve been brainwashed by Fox News to believe that everything you disagree with is some liberal, bleeding heart uber-conspiracy. The rest of us just call it America.
You bigot! Anyway, Sheen is interesting enough for us to be reading (and writing) about him.
If you had to perform those scripts every week, you’d drink too.
Okay, so everyone is missing the g-damned point. I’d be the last person to defend the “Ma-sheen” (as we used to call him), but the fact is that Charlie’s a consumate professional. He shows up on time, has a good work ethic, even hangs up his own wardrobe for the wardrobe person. He’s a funny, intelligent and creative person, but Charlie has two fatal flaws: his mom and his dad – in that order. Marty spent most of his carreer banging his co-starts, and Janet has spend most of her life looking the other way. It’s a shame that his oldest brother, Emilio The Breeder, was never the “big” brother role model young Sheen needed. His older brother, Ramon, is a raving loon, just like his mum. Actually, the most normal of the group is Rene, Chaz’s sister, but even she can’t get through to her brother the addict. And so, the blame rests squarely with Janet and Marty, and in particular, Janet, the least talented person of the family… maybe one of the least talented and most disliked persons on the planet. End of story.
I’m not sure how you have the nerve here. As if you know this man’s family well enough to personally name and pass judgment in this manner. There is only one judge of all of us. End of story.
And that, my friends, is Judge Joe Brown.
“Shut this down”?
I think someone needs to be the voice of reason here and call this as it is: Charlie Sheen, as has just been described (and as virtually everyone knows) is a functioning alcoholic. He shows up to work, he recites his lines, and as far as we’ve heard, he doesn’t fuck up. What more do you want? Lindsay Lohan?
What someone does in their personal life is of no concern to you as a supervisor in their professional life, particularly when they’ve made you millions of dollars, and they perform well on the job.
This is B.S. Not only do they not have a legal leg to stand on, but if they “shut the show down” as it appears they’ve threatened to do, they will put many, many innocent people out of work.
Unnamed producers at WBTV and/or CBS: Everyone knows you can’t legally shut down the show, or place it on hiatus for this. Obviously you know it as well. What’s worse than being a drug-addicted drunk who swims in hookers on your personal time? Reacting to TMZ photos of someone having fun on his off-hours by “telling” the media that such person will either enter rehab or you will shut down the show, when of course you don’t mean that.
I can see why these people remain unnamed. Better to just not comment than try to make yourselves look like you actually “care” about Charlie’s well-being instead of the money he brings you.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
As a regular, everyday woman who understands Charlies’ lifestyle, I just want to meet him. He and I live parallel lives it’s almost crazy. We are the same age, like to live life and also work hard to keep what we love and make enough money to do what we love. Live life, do everything alot (especially if you like to), experiment different things and don’t be afraid of the outcome. Just live!! What people think of you, is only “what people think of you!” My life, right? Come on Charlie, just lunch…and of course drinks! I’m sure a manager, agent, or whoeever reads this shit is thinking, “oh, same ole thing!” Guess what? Nope. Not. Just sayin. Anyhoo, I live in Seattle, grew up in Newport Beach,
CA, not married, no kids, work from home, travel as much as I can, love to love life and always will.
I’m sure this will never reach Charlie, but it sure felt good writing it. Made me realize what it really true about me. Thanks. SS
We live in curious times.
Ewwwww…not married, what a surprise!
Stacy, I like your style
He’s got plenty of help. Why should he want it?
His death might be what he wants…
His own dark masterpiece… Not so creative, after all, huh???
Everyone loves horror. Boring!!!
So much hand-wringing over saving this 40 year old man who’s had everything handed to him and makes no effort to be a decent human being. Is everyone going to wait until the show’s cancelled to crucify him like they did Chris Brown?
Apparently you can destroy yourself with booze and coke no problem but hitting a woman makes you Charles Manson, Jack the Ripper and Hitler all in one. And nobody asks what the woman might have done to provoke it. Yes, people, some women provoke men to violence.
Love your sick logic. Oh, it must be the woman’s fault. You don’t hit ANYBODY. Especially not women. How simple can it be? Short of her throwing a knife at him, Sheen has no excuse.
I’ll try to remember that, double-standard, the next time I see you in a bar and you decide to hit a defenseless woman.
You are a disgusting human being. It’s a big difference between harmind yourself or harming someone else.
Sorry, Double Standard, but you need to get into Anger Management STAT before you hurt someone, including yourself. There is NO EXCUSE for violence against women (or men).
Then, according to your logic, Justin Loughner was merely provoked. Anyone who blames others for their actions, particularly justifying violence against women, is the obvious problem. Like CS, until you realize who’s responsible for your life, you’re going to live in a Groundhog Day of bad decisions & pathetically defending them.
CS, like so many other addicted talents who don’t or won’t understand the cycle of parasitic enabling he’s surrounded by & contributing to his self destruction, probably will not survive his addictions. His children will be deeply affected, but everyone else will just move on to the next target.
It’s “Jared” Loughner, FYI…
Double Standard, is that Hollywood speak for misogynist? I can’t think of a more vile thing to post. So Gabrielle Giffords really must be a ball busting bitch then, to follow your twisted logic.
You must be the type of guy who sits alone at Carl’s Jr., planning all of the ways you’ll get back at all those women who forced you into a lucrative career as a bagger at Ralph’s.
Very clever, dvdoff—that was damn funny. I could just ‘see’ his dirty nails and Six Dollar Burger dripping condiments.
Guess that means we can all clock you
If that is the case, sir, you are no man and you are extremely weak mentally!
I don’t care so that millions of people watch that show. Sheen is a ticking time bomb. And, it’s clear he isn’t that interested in cleaning up his act and getting help.
Don’t feel sorry for Charlie, feel bad for the hundreds of people whose livelihood’s he is jeopardizing everyday by remaining an addict.
Well said.
I knew Charlie years ago. He was a mean drunk then. What has changed? This is all about money – if CBS and WBTV wanted him gone – he would be history. The things is I’ve never thought the show was that good or that funny. Give me the Honeymooners.
Here’s an idea: Tell ‘im “Goodbye, Charlie.”
Is there a single surprising sentence in this story? For all the hub-ub about wanting to “help,” it’s called “enabling.” And the reason for the enabling is greed. An addict needs to fall, hit rock bottom, before he or she will reach out for help. And being paid more and more (and more and more) every year is not the kind of thing most people experience as a fall. He does worse when out of work? Good. Then cancel the show and let him crash. That’s how to help him. Not giving him more and more money, so you can make more and more money using him.
RE: “I hear he has retained lead litigator Marty Singer and has threatened to sue Warner Bros. TV and CBS if they shut down production on the show without cause.” In what world is being on booze or drugs while on contract at work NOT cause?
As he is one of the highest-paid actors on TV on one of the top shows, I have to say that I actually doubt that they are trying to help him. I have seen stars drunk, abuse their partners, abuse their underlings, f*** hookers, smash things, drug out, and as long as they are making money the enablers at ALL levels in show business will turn a blind eye. Did you see WOody Allen’s “Celebrity”? It was a documentary.
Maybe it’s that the weight loss makes him look visibly strung out? Trust me, if it weren’t visible they would not lift a finger… and I’ll wait and see if they even do.
Yo are assuming that he is drinking or taking drugs while on the Warner Bros lot and there is no evidence of that at all. In fact they’ve said that he never partakes when working, so no, they cannot close it down just because he went on a binge over the weekend.
He is an addict, but you can’t force him to get help. You can try, but it won’t stick. The weight loss is an issue, but unless they want to be sued for the value of his contract, they can’t shut the show down unless he agrees.
Who cares? He’s doing it to himself, he’s an adult, he shows up for work and even if he doesn’t he’s got plenty of money. There are real issues in the world – a spoiled, indulged celebrity is not one of them.
“if they shut down production on the show without cause” – Surprised studio’s don’t include repeated problems with substance abuse as a “cause”.
If he’s a functioning addict, allowing it to continuing is enabling. If he’s got a serious problem, time to address it before he hurts himself or someone else.
If an addict doesn’t want help, there’s not much anyone can do. And with the all the money that’s been thrown at him despite his behavior, I’m not surprised at all that he doesn’t see a problem with any of this.
Very true. There’s an awful lot of “addicts are evil” going on in this thread. It’s pointless to think of them that way, as anyone who’s had a friend or family member in this situation would know. They’re not evil, and it’s not a question of the addict “caring” or not caring enough. They’re being driven by a chemical compulsion so strong that they’re helpless to resist. You might as well tell a sick person to stop coughing. If you cared about me you wouldn’t be contagious and give me that cold. America has a very tough time with addiction – we think that since picking up the bottle is (for us) a voluntary behavior that addicts are just choosing to be addicts and that if they were just strong like we are they would stop. It’s not that the addict is sick, it’s not that the addict is impaired, it’s that we are strong and the addict is weak. It doesn’t work that way. And when people think that way it has more to do with themselves than it does to do with the addict.
Josh says it best: “It doesn’t work that way”.
This is definitely a sad case but what’s even more sad is that the show and the network are letting the inmate, in this case Charlie Sheen, run the asylum. While he is a talented actor they are only enabling his poor habits and behavior by bending to his will and allowing the production to continue. If they had some integrity and truly cared about Charlie they would stop production until he got a his life together, hopefully through rehab from the sounds of it. By continuing production and not demanding a get clean or we’re done stance the only thing the producers and CBS truly show care about is money. There have been to many instances where money gets in the way of rational decision making. Hopefully CBS and the producers will display that type of care for this instance and Charlie will get on the road to recovery.
Am I the only one sick of this douche? Our business is based on a sociology that reward the worst people. How many times have we read stories on this very website about asshole producers who get exorbitant payouts and druggies who are saved by their well-connected friends?
To hell with Charlie Sheen.
And to hell with the former degenerate drug addicts on that show who sympathize with his behavior because they used to be just like him.
For God’s sake are there any self=respecting human beings left in this town?
I couldnt agree more with you…and thank you for making this comment. All these seminars and workshops and conferences and meetings and talks that these executives/producers/directors give on trying to break into the industry…all the books they write with all this advice…all the commentary on all the dvds about looking for this in an actor or that in a writer…what does it mean when these same people expend all this time effort an money into helping these drug addicts while the non-drug addicts, the non-prescription drug addicts, the non-alcoholics struggle as waiters and waitresses.
Good point.
Excellent summation, Rod. I think of that irony all the time.
here here, FIRE HIM. And let that be a warning to any new up and comer or veteran trying to pull the same assine shit. Studio heads: stop drinking and drugging and MAN UP!
you really dont seem to get the gravity and seriousness of this situation….he is out of control, yet is considered a “funtional addict”….needs a real intervention, which would mean him being axed from his 50 million a year salary, but its like he is daring them to do it….then he can sue them he is smart,he is playing thier game they are afraid to fire him,he will sue them and would most likely WIN….Charlies doing all this as partly publicity and to test his fans to see what they really think, and its working the ratings are going up,its no joke….hollywoods dead wood, needs some fire on it to get some HEAT and some ATTENTION hell mel gibson that was the appetizers for whats down the line
Hear, hear!
His behavior is dispicable. There’s a trail a mile long of disasters caused by Sheen. I seriously don’t give a fuck WHY he’s an addict but to have all these people make it okay and easy for him to lord over their lives says everything about this business. He’s an asshole, an irresponsible human and NOT the funniest or most talented guy in the room. Sheen won the lottery of luck. That’s it!
well said.
There are a ton of ‘functioning alcoholics/addicts’ working in this town. Has Sheen’s behavior ever harmed production of the show? I’m not defending him, he definitely should get help, but no addict will until they make up their mind to do so –
You know the old adage, “You lie down with dogs, you come up with fleas.”
These people are not trying to save Charlie at all. They are trying to keep a cash-cow alive and a steady paycheck. I hope Charlie gets the help he needs, but that probably means Martin and Emilio stepping in, not some suit at the WB or CBS.
this much is simple, at this point in his life, Charlie Sheen should not be working. The only thing people should be trying to get him to do is get help. Of course, WBTV and CBS have a lot of money riding on him and the show, and let’s be fair, that comes into play.
Sheen is an addict, and presumably the worst kind of addict. The man is in desperate need of help. Get him out of Hollywood. Get him out of the business if you want to save him, otherwise, his third act is already written.
Does Mr. Sheen have a Morality Clause in his contract? If so I would think he has clearly violated it, giving the studio bosses and CBS an option to close production and/or dismiss Mr.Sheen.
Surely the CBS lawyers can find cause to shut down the show. At least for the moment to get him help. Surely CBS knows how to write someone out of a show and then reintroduce him into the series. Come on…somebody out there act like a friggin’ adult and admit it’s about saving the show first.
Great question! I thought they’d added a morality clause when they renewed his deal.
“Morality Clause”? Really? Anyone doing business with Charlie Sheen knows full well, that any morality clause, in a contract with him, is a waste of time, ink, and paper. As long as the kid’s funny, and brings in viewers, that’s alllllll that matters.
As Marty Singer might ask: What’s a Morality Clause???
if i went from stomping the earth to co-starring in sit-coms with jon cryer, i’d sodomize hookers named “Capri” or “fluffy” and go on weekly hotel “rampages,” too. rampages of the LA kind are like ghettos in san francisco. cute and tolerable, and confined to a tiny area you don’t need glasses to see the end of.
poor sheen seems to be descended from a long line of pure grade testosterone in all its glory. back before it was neutered and the butt of one-liners. he’s like masculinity’s canary in the proverbial coal mine. he doesn’t sing and faint away. he screws hookers with great names and goes on beautiful “rampages.” and thank god. don’t look down on him, y’all. he’s testifying with some serious truth and warnings at us ALL being neutered.
but don’t listen to me; i’m the only american who thought tom cruise wasn’t interesting UNTIL he jumped over oprah’s sofa. i was the only one who thought it was the sanest response to a career full of having to answer interminably tedious talk show questions.
dear sheen, i hope you sodomize everyone you can, and while it won’t mean much, i’ll be over here waving my lighter for you.
–erika pie
One way to put it. Well said.
Fire him. Hire Emilio Estevez. At this point, there should be NO tollerance.
I would love to party with Charlie.
He´s the MAN.
He does have a FAMILY – where are they in all of this? If anyone is responsible for Charlie Sheen (other than himself), it’s his family. From what we are told here, he seems to realize on some level that only his work keeps him focused. His refusal to let the show close down, seems to be an acknowledgement of that. Addicts have to want to get clean…
…also, you forget that working talent isn’t as disposable as everyone likes to think. it’s a lot of work making a living off of your talent and all the stuff that makes you larger than life. and after being huge enough to be interesting, then you have to sit still at dinners and interviews, and be appropriate for weeks on end? no, it’s hard. be amazed more truly interesting artists don’t go on rampages. i’d rather the rampages than the quiet overdoses or shots in the head.
You’d think Child Protective Services would get involved. Isn’t the kid on that show 16? I can’t imagine having a co-worker who drinks, does drugs and hangs out with hookers is the kind of environment the state would allow him to be in. That’s why kids can’t work at bars or strip clubs.
That’s what kids deal with all the time at retail jobs, more or less. Maybe not the hookers, but co-workers who are addicts isn’t that uncommon.
Where’s his family? His father? His brother?
Perhaps you’ve never had a family member with a serious addiction problem or mental health issue?
Charlie’s father is not responsible for him. Nor is his brother. They’ve probably intervened with support many times over the years. But there comes a point where you can’t help someone unless they want that help.
And if they don’t want the help, sometimes it’s healthiest for the family to step back and let them go, as difficult as that may be.
Are you kidding me? Obviously you care enough to click the link, read the article, and then comment. This is Deadline. They report on exactly this. Feel free to head to cnn.com for what you say you’re looking for.
First off, Sheen’s character on the show is the weakest link. He’s not funny at all. It’s a crying shame that the spoiled actor cares so little about Jon Cryer, Holland Taylor, Conchata Farrell and Angus T. Jones that he would jeopardize their careers for his own self-destructive desires.
Martin, get ahold of your kid, man.
Better yet, CBS: put this very unfunny “sitcom” out of its misery so the world never has to hear about Charlie Sheen again. He’ll migrate to the gutter and wind up just like Anna Nicole Smith…and we ALL know it, don’t we?
Only your opinion. My opinion is, the show is funny as hell. And apparently, an awful lot of other people do as well…the no. 1 comedy on the tube. Charlie is far from the weak link. The f***** is hilarious.
The guy is living his life. He’s taken responsibility for it. unlike most of the hollywood pukes or politicians, he doesn’t blame it on anyone else. He is hurting no one but himself. His co-stars have contracts, so he isn’t hurting them. They’ll get paid. The b**** that stole his watch needed her ass kicked. Leave him the hell alone, and worry about your own s***** lives.
THE WRITERS ARE FUNNY. Anyone could be plugged into his role and deliver the lines DEADPAN (as he does) and the show would be funny. THE WRITERS are the BRILLIANCE behind the show. Jon Cryer and the cast are extremely talented and their timing impeccable. Charlie Sheen is lucky. Maybe he should lose his job for once and then realize how good he had it b4 he committed professional suicide because he couldn’t be a professional on and off the set. Let some other struggling actor in.
Uh, no. The writers are writing to Charlie’s strengths. And he is NOT replaceable. If he goes, the show goes. Millions and millions of dollars go. And a whole lot of jobs.
