EXCLUSIVE: Meet the first new star of Dallas — Jordana Brewster has been tapped for a lead role in the TNT pilot, the first new cast member to join the reboot of the classic soap.
The pilot, from writer Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, centers on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing – J.R.’s son, John Ross, and Bobby and Pam Ewing’s adopted son, Christopher – who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance. Brewster will play Elena, the gorgeous daughter of the ranch’s cook who is locked into a love triangle with Christopher and John.
Brewster joins Dallas alums Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray who are set to reprise their roles from the original series as Bobby and Sue Ellen, respectively. After months of negotiations, fellow Dallas star Larry Hagman, who played the Machiavellian J.R., recently stated that he had verbally committed to the project but is yet to sign a deal, something that could happen next week. Hagman had been holding out for money, prompting the studio and the network to come up with a Plan B, with Cidre writing an alternative pilot script in which Hagman’s J.R. is only represented through flashbacks from the original series. Brewster, repped by CAA and Management 360, has recurred on Chuck and Dark Blue and next reprises her role as Mia Toretto in the upcoming The Fast and the Furious sequel Fast Five.

But will ‘Dallas’ shoot in Dallas?
Wouldn’t be surprised to hear Toronto.
I heard Houston, TX… which is weird… why not move 5 hours north and do it in Dallas…?
My best guess would be $$$. Houston is the biggest city in Texas, but Dallas is by far the most expensive re: general cost of living/doing business. Austin used to be the major production hub for the Southern US but Texas’ stingy film prod tax incentives drove everything off to New Orleans years ago.
Not likely in Houston…two failing/failed TV series this past season, were set in Houston, and filmed in…..Dallas. Dallas has a stronger film crew. Unfortunately, the producers of this series are looking into Louisiana, which has stronger film incentives.
The horrible Travolta/Lopez film thing was going to film in….Florida.
If it is at least filmed in Texas and has opening shots of the original Southfork Ranch, I’m a happy camper!
If Hagman takes too long to sign up for the show, and they have had to start on plan b. They could always re-introduce him later on in another shower scene (that the original show was infamous for). That would always appeal to the older fans. lol. If they did that then we might hear the sound of a motorbike engine revving up and a shark tank beginning to fill.
Larry Hagman wants nothing to do with this abortion.
If that’s true, then why has he agreed to do the pilot?
Larry Hagman Confirmed for TNT’s New Dallas
1st he said he wouldn’t and now he is going to do it, I bet it ends up like “Lonestar”.
What a shame that so many promising original ideas got passed over so they could reboot this garbage.
This is the first I have heard of this and find this news the most hilarious reboot/remake/reinvigorate news I have heard.
Please someone back some original ideas rather than churning out old ones over and over and over again.
Hey, Mulholland, a few years ago Dallas was going to be a redo and shot in Toronto. Yes, there was an outcry. LOL
what happened with the John Travolta – Jennifer Lopez film version? Have our eyes been spared from it?
So who’s going to shoot J.R. this time? Jesus, where are the fresh ideas?
Maggie Simpson in a crossover sponsored by Chevrolet, Butterfinger and Christian Audigier.
She’s smoking hot and I kind of like the premise of this – except of course Hagman returning – could very easily do without him. Ever again.
Peter Roth and Craig Erwich are spineless losers to recycle Dallas rather than make good pilots or support good shows once they hit the air. It’s sad what a sellout this once fine studio that has become. It’s hard to imagine they once had West Wing and Friends. When was the last time WB had a show with any Emmy nomination for best series in half hour or drama? Better to keep Charlie Sheen on the crack pipe until he all but dies but making a dollar than act like leaders or creatives.
WB used to have a pretty exciting shows. They would swing for the fences. Now they just aim to get to first base. Their casting for women is terrible. Porn star looking actresses. I guess that is the taste of the men that run it. Pretty pathetic. I will never forget them passing on Emma Stone saying she wasn’t hot enough.
Hagman’s too busy chillin’ in Ojai, bro.
I’d watch Jordana Brewster read the phone book.
only if she was naked…and i could turn the volume down.
Every year, good ideas go unheard or passed over so that some old sock of an idea can be pulled out can be pulled out of mothballs and de-nubbed and shoved on America’s foot. Doesn’t make it a glass slipper, never will.
Peter and Craig, I thought you were better than this.
Oh for petes sake. First Charlies Angels now Dallas? So they are going to revise all old shows staring all Derek Jeter’s old and current girlfriends? The dude has dated or tried to date half of Hollywood.
That being said, Hollywood must be in decline to want raise these shows from the dead. The reruns of the original shows on cable will always do better than these tacky remakes.
Had this been a remake she would have been perfect (appearance wise) for the role of “Sue Ellen”. Don’t know if I buy her as the “poor” girl who is being fought over. Brewster always comes off as a rich girl. And I think that comes from her upbringing. I remember hearing her talk about being made fun of in school for bringing pasta salad for lunch… After that I could never buy her and “poor”… If anything she should be playing a wealthier character IMO. But I don’t remember if anyone in the original had a daughter. I just remember the robotic kid who played John Ross.
Can Falcon Crest Redux be far behind?
Only if we are really lucky. It would be a lot better than this twaddle.
Who is Jordana Brewster and why should I care?
Luckily Hagman has commited. Why do “Dallas’ without him. it would be senseless.
My problem is that America has become too namby-pamby and politically correct for the show to get away with what J.R. used to do in the ’80s. Driving Sue Ellen to drink? Unprotected sex with multiple women? Framing Sue Ellen’s lover for drug possession? Funding an Arab revolution? Cheating Cliff Barnes time and again? There would be too many whiners today threatening to boycott advertisers. America needs to stick to its PC, gay-friendly programming like Glee and Gossip Girl.
1) Please to be seeing the PTC Christian-based attack on Skins.
2) STFU
Are you kidding? We’ve had 50+ years of the onlyt way is the ‘straight’ way, and you think America needs to stick it to the PC, gay-friendly programming? Would you rather go back to the Reagan years when the moron didn’t once utter the words AIDS, not once? Eight years is a long time, and think we could have had a cure by now if he had have given more than $$$1 to a cure. And Sarah Palin and her ilk say he was a God, pulllleeeeez!!!!
I’d go back to the Reagan years in a heartbeat. Nothing to do with pro-gay or anti-gay agenda, which is hardly the most important issue facing the country right now (sorry friends).
The country would be in a far better place.
That said, the types of stories the original poster mentions for the old Dallas totally occur on TV today, so not sure what the issue is. It’s neither about nor a threat to political correctness, which, I agree, is absurd today.
Great, one of my favorite shows. Hope Larry Hagman returns. Please bring back Knots Landing too.
Weren´t there rumors about Jennifer Love Hewitt in Dallas?
I have high hopes for this. Loved the original, and love that Duffy and Gray are coming back for this – and maybe Hagman (well, definitely – he and Duffy are like brothers and love working together, of course he will come aboard). As for you reboot-haters? Get a f–king grip. Reboots have been flooding pop culture since Hamlet – which was taken from a German play years before – and much of what you think were “classic TV shows” were actually reboots from others. Calm down.
Word round is that TNT wants the best-looking cast in TV for this series.
I loved Dallas. This sounds terrible.
And Cynthia Cidre is one of the most boring storytellers around. So not the right choice for this reboot. Anyone see Cane?
Well that is one uninspired choice. At least Victoria Principal, back in the day, was a remarkable beauty. Brewster is not going to get this series noticed and doesn’t have the appeal to send off a memorable love triangle.
Lets hope the male leads are more appealing.
This is a terrible reboot idea–but Jordana Brewster is scorching.
Even I was attached to one failed re make! I tend to agree with “Yeah,But” the late 70′s up to 80′s vibe will be lost in todays PC universe.
This would have worked better as a movie, perhaps even as a send up.
Strong writing will be required, and over-the-top plot’s will be needed for this to meet with success – particularly if Gray,Duffy and Hagman are central to the plot. It would be a mistake de-fang Hagman, or Gray for that matter.
Duffy would be easier to transition, as “Bobby” reacted to situations and plotlines, more than “creating” them.
I do wish them luck! I too, would love to see a re-boot of “Knots Landing” at some point. Can you IMAGINW what HBO or SHOWTIME could do with Knots? Hope springs eternal!
