EXCLUSIVE: Meet the first new star of Dallas — Jordana Brewster has been tapped for a lead role in the TNT pilot, the first new cast member to join the reboot of the classic soap.
The pilot, from writer Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, centers on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing – J.R.’s son, John Ross, and Bobby and Pam Ewing’s adopted son, Christopher – who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance. Brewster will play Elena, the gorgeous daughter of the ranch’s cook who is locked into a love triangle with Christopher and John.
Brewster joins Dallas alums Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray who are set to reprise their roles from the original series as Bobby and Sue Ellen, respectively. After months of negotiations, fellow Dallas star Larry Hagman, who played the Machiavellian J.R., recently stated that he had verbally committed to the project but is yet to sign a deal, something that could happen next week. Hagman had been holding out for money, prompting the studio and the network to come up with a Plan B, with Cidre writing an alternative pilot script in which Hagman’s J.R. is only represented through flashbacks from the original series. Brewster, repped by CAA and Management 360, has recurred on Chuck and Dark Blue and next reprises her role as Mia Toretto in the upcoming The Fast and the Furious sequel Fast Five.

They should bring back Deborah Shelton who was Mandy, JR’s mistress. I’m sure she has a son from JR which nobody knows about.
Just saw her in a commercial — she still looks great!
I’m happy that Linda Gray signed on to play Sue Ellen. She’s the only reason I watched Dallas in the 1980′s. I hope she’s written well.
Southfork isn’t even n Dallas. The actual “ranch” n da opening shot is closer 2 H-town. Da rest was shot on soundstage. So just n Tejas would b a +.
The opening shots are in Dallas – the two gold buildings are very prominent and my denist happens to be in one of them however the highways have changed drastically since the 70′s and 80′s when the show was originally filmed and aired. Southfork is just outside Dallas (North of Dallas) in a small town called Parker, TX. All of the outside scenes of Southfork were shot on location at the ranch and several were shot inside as well. I do agree some were shot on a soundstage but not all. If you happen to be in Dallas you should go to Southfork and take a guided tour if you have not already, it is very informative and has items such as the gun JR was shot with by Sue Ellen’s sister Kristen played by Mary Crosby and Lucys wedding dress. Several other artifacts can be viewed as well.
I so loved the original series, and hope that this could be even a glimmer of what that was. Unfortunately, Cynthia Cidre is a hack whose bitterness seeps into everything she writes. Heard she’s also unpleasant to deal with in production. I won’t hold my breath.
A darker take on “Dallas” woukd have been good on pay cable like HBO. A wealthy family that is in charge of an oil empire is still very relevant. If they mined the 14 original seasons for the best stories, they could have had a good gritty 5 or 6 solid seasons of remake material…
It’s not a reboot. Quit calling it that. It’s more akin to Dallas The Next Generation… and we all know what a huge failure Star Trek Next Generation was, right? Right? Oh, wait… it wasn’t a failure. And this won’t be either.
It could be cool if done right. I’d include Betsy and Bobby from Knots Landing, seeking out their true heritage. Maybe one is good and one is bad?
well im looking forward to it cant say that im so tierd of all this crazy reality garbage they got on all these stations, about time a real classic soap comes back i miss dallas
I LOVE DALLAS, What about J.R’s other son the older one he was played by sascha mitchel? will he be in it?
