In Thursday’s story about Warner Bros fully financing and distributing The Hobbit worldwide, Deadline revealed that Elijah Wood was in talks to bring his Frodo character back to Middle Earth. His reps announced it tonight. Here’s the official word:
Wood is confirmed to star in Peter Jackson’s “THE HOBBIT” to be shot in New Zealand. In addition, he has signed on to play “Ben Gunn” in Stewart Harcourt’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s TREASURE ISLAND along side Eddie Izzard. The 2 part/ 4 hour miniseries will be airing on SKY TV in the UK. Alan Moloney is producing with Steve Barron directing.
Wood will next be seen this summer in FX’s new series “Wilfred”, as well as lending his voice to Warner Bros. “Happy Feet 2” set for release November 18th as well as Disney XD’s “Tron: Uprising” (2012), In addition, he is starring in the Sundance short “Fight for your Right Revisited” directed by Adam Yauch and starring John C. Reilly and Seth Rogen.
Wood is repped by Nicole David at WME and Joanne Colonna at Brillstein Partners.

You told us so! We were thinking “no way!” but you said “yes way!” and you told us so! You’re the greatest!
This is a baaaad idea. What’s the point of shoehorning in Frodo? Don’t tell me he’s going to narrate the story. I’m feeling intense unease over what Peter Jackson and co. are stewing up. Tolkien must be rolling in his grave.
I read he’s gonna be in the beginning reading There and Back again. Hopefully not narrating the whole story though.
Very interesting, I trust PJ but I do wonder how this is gonna work? Still waiting on Sir Ian Mckellen, Andy Serkis and hopefully Orlando Bloom!
It’s not like he has been doing much since Lord of the Rings…
What do you mean? He spent six years and $300 million shitting out two massive turds!
Frodo’s not in THE HOBBIT.
Will he be playing Bilbo? Or will he have a bit part off to the side?
This isn’t going to be the Hobbit…it will be Lord of the Rings IV.
So, Peter might as bring them all back.
Sorry, J.R.R.
Since they are returning actors who are now good 10 years or so older than in the trilogy, but asked to play even younger versions of the same characters, it would be cool if someone posted contemporary photos because there is a noticable difference. Wood was a teenager on that picture. He doesn`t look like that anymore.
Niether does Jeff Bridges versus the way he appeared as Clu in “Tron: Legacy”. You forget about CGI technology.
Of course he is… was there really any doubt?
Read the pilot, saw the preview — “Wilfred” is going to be a really cool show.
Way too obvious. Tone it down a notch, and skip the fake LOTR fan username.
That is good. I don’t mind if they would bring even Sam.
I heard Frodo will have the tale of The Hobbit told to him by Bilbo as a way of introducing the story.
Some of you naysayers should go watch the LOTR trilogy again and give Peter Jackson the benefit of the doubt. The guy obviously cares about this film and is the one who brought Tolkien’s world to the screen in such a powerful and beautiful way the first 3 times around. Why are you so quick to just assume it’s going to suck? Given the advances in the technology, I don’t think aging Wood down (if that’s indeed how he’ll be used in this) will be a problem. Watching The Return of the King the other day I was amazed at how well Gollum holds up despite how many years ago it was made.
Seriously people Elijah won’t be part of the actual story of the Hobbit, he will be part of framing sequence with either Bilbo telling him the events of the Hobbit or of Frodo reading Bilbo’s book, “there and back a hobbit’s tale”, you know the one he finishes when he adds his own quest to the book and completes years after the main story of LotR and gives to Sam.
Seriously relax.
Other than the obvious reason (money), why are they making the shortest book in the series into two movies?
The Hobbit can’t possibly be any longer than any of the LOTR movies.
Peter Jackson will need to add a bunch of fluff to the script to stretch it into two movies, so they might as well invite everyone from LOTR back and turn it into one of those Lost-like episodes with flash forwards and flash backs.
Elijah Wood will appear in Hobbit 2. That movie (a new story) will be the “bridge” between Hobbit 1 (yeah!, the book) and LOTR
I don’t mind Frodo being in the story. Looking back on “Lord of the Rings” he knew who Gollum was before Gollum told him. He was obviously already aware of the events that happen in “The Hobbit.” So it would make sense to have him in the beginning of the movie with Bilbo telling him the story. It would tie this together nicely with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Maybe they can film a scene with Martin Freeman as Bilbo getting the ring for the first time and put that in “Fellowship of the Ring” over the younger Ian Holm.
This guy looks like Mitch Morales, am I right? Just saying….
Great news! I can’t wait to see The Hobbit!
And hopefully we’ll meet again Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas as well.
Maybe there will be a scene where Bilbao tell Fredo what had happened with him in Hobbit.
I love Elijah Wood! i hope he is the main character, or he narrates!
rock on!
LOTR is the best movie eva!!!!
