I’m hearing that Tom Cruise is getting serious about Rock of Ages, the Adam Shankman-directed New Line musical based on the Broadway stage hit. He’s not the star; this would be a supporting character departure like Cruise has played in Tropic Thunder and Magnolia. Here he’d be the decadent veteran rock star, Stacee Jax, which sounds fun. Cruise first came up as a possible participant in the film in October. He became attached in December to At the Mountains of Madness, which Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron are prepping at Universal. The two films could fill his 2011 dance card.

Dan Finnerty from The Dan Band was great in this role and there is no reason not to have him reprise his role.
Except for getting it funded & distributed… but yeah, totally, good point.
Is Tom actually confirmed for At The Mountains of Madness? It would be pretty cool to see him in that movie since they kind of need a bankable actor if they want Universal to agree to the $100 + budget the film is going to cost.
Tom Cruise will completely take me out of the moment of belief watching what could be a great movie. Why oh why does it need Cruise to make it be greenlighted…they have Del Toro and Cameron…..shhheeeeeeeeesh Cruise will make it lame.

Sounds like a good movie!
Hey Mike, thanks for the info. I’m really looking forward to this film as I’m a fan of the show. But, is there anything else you can add? Any other actors close to signing on? This just seems like a repeat of information we already know. I appreciate the effort, though.
Sounds awesome!
Also Mountain of Madness with Cruise would also be cool.
Hope he does both movies!
Here’s a perfectly good reason to cast a bigger name:
BOX OFFICE SUCCESS!
This role should have been given to Peter Diewick who did it in Toronto for 9 months
With a huge A-List cast, and the songs that are featured, I see this easily being as big world wide as Mama Mia. But, hopefully better.
Love Tom Cruise. Despite all the negative press he has gotten, he’s still one of the best leading guys around. I would like him to see in more roles.
Nothing says “rock n roll legend” like Tom Cruise.
Tom would be brilliant for this role! Adam Shankman did a great job with Travolta in Hairspray..this shoud be even better.
My grandma is totally psyched for this!
Tom Cruise is too old for Stacee Jaxx in my opinion. But I have seen movie makeup work its magic. And he doesn’t hold a candle to Jeremy Woodard or James Carpinello, who have played the character in the stage version. Sorry Tom, you do nothing for me.
How is he too old? If anything, both actors you mentioned are too young. Stacee Jaxx is not a hot young sex symbol. He’s someone who ONCE WAS. Now he’s up in age, and washed up.
