HBO, whose most recent drama series addition, Boardwalk Empire, won two Golden Globes last night, including best series, is prepping the launch of its next hourlong series, Game of Thrones. Here is a new teaser for the fantasy drama, which will premiere on April 17.

The show looks phenomenal.
uhmmm…….WOW!!! THE WAIT SEEMS NOW LIKE IT’S BEEN WORTH EVERY MINUTE!!!
I haven’t read the novels, so without spoiling anything, could someone tells me why birds and their wings are so prominent in the promos?
Nerd fest.
The dark birds and their wings represent dark omens. Something bad is coming.
Tazmaniak,
I read the pilot a,d I won’t spoil anything – because I have no idea. The symbol of the raven is used in the credits, but that’s about it. Curious to see how it develops.
Tazmaniak: Ravens are used in the books to carry messages from castle to castle; since they’re a finite commodity and can’t carry much more than a tiny scrap of parchment they only get sent out when there’s serious news. There’s a proverb someone quotes in one of the novels: “Dark wings, dark words”.
Also, close-ups of ravens look creepy and ominous, which is the tone they were going for in the promo. And it breaks the flow up between shots of the various actors.
Lord of the Borings
Sounds like someone is Lord of the Jealous
I thought HBO was trying to get back the audience it’s lost to AMC and Showtime. Instead, this looks like they’re trying to look like Starz.
The critics loved what they saw of the pilot.
Looks awesome. The books are phenomenal; hopefully the series will be just as appealing to the general audience as it is to fans of the books the series is based on. This has the potential to be a really big hit.
I do think it’s interesting that Starz is premiering Spartacus in the same month as Game of Thrones. Both are fantasy series. Both filmed at least partly in Ireland. Honestly, I’m hoping both do really well because there aren’t enough -good- fantasy series.
You mean Camelot.
The books are the best fantasy series out there. They are also the best books of any genre as well, imho.
It’s great to see an original fantasy/historical series not based on Spartacus or King Arthur.
The first three books of the series are great. The 4th book was a complete drag and I couldn’t finish it. The 5th book has been in the writing process for over 10 years (keeping in mind that the 4th and 5th books were originally one book before they were supposedly split into two volumes.)
I wish the best for the show but I still have a feeling that some HBO executive is finally going to wake up and realize that this series doesn’t have an ending. If the ratings don’t come in high enough, that fact alone will be enough to cancel the show regardless of the outcry from the fans.
“Even though the show has received high praise from the critics, it has unfortunately not found a large enough audience to justify the budget. Also given that the series doesn’t currently have an end in sight, we have made the difficult decision to move forward without renewing the show for a second season.” -or something to that effect.
