Jason Shapiro, a 10-year UTA veteran in the agency’s motion picture talent department, is moving to the management side of the representation business, joining The Collective. There he will work closely with partners Jeff Golenberg and Sam Maydew in the talent management group. At UTA, Shapiro worked with such clients as Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Margarita Levieva, Elizabeth Reaser, DJ Cotrona, Jason Clarke and Mary Kate Olsen. It is unclear who will take him on as a manager. Shapiro is the latest staff addition to The Collective which, over the past couple of years has hired former WMA agent Ashley Franklin, Todd Diener and Melody Hammer (formerly of BEP), Leonard Torgan (Leverage), Lisa Blum, Max Burgos, Evan Weiss (Handprint), Steven Grossman (ICM) and Abbey Robertson (Generate).

I have never commented on this thing but I had to for Shappy, I know this is said often, but I can say with 100% confidence that Shaps is without a doubt one of the greatest of GOOD GUYS in this industry. He has incredible taste, class and most importantly – a soul. I deal with UTA often and he is one of maybe 3 I actually look forward to working with. He believes in his clients and fights for them HARD – which I rarely see from representation, on any level. I am so happy for you Shap. You are a wonderful person and deserve only good things.
Jesus. Well I can tell you that entire department is practically looking to exit. I have never heard so many horror stories and tales of crazy from one department in my life. At one point or another they have all complained about the toxicity of that place. The upper mgmt just don’t take care about their people and most of those people are about ready to jump. They have never been a group who helped within, it’s pretty known externally. Never understood why they didn’t take the beat to make the change…Guess they’re happy bleeding clients to WME and CAA.
I would never work in this industry without Jason by my side. He is a wonderful guy filled with the utmost class and respect. I love him to death and thank the lord for having him on my side! I would follow him where ever he landed! Xoxo

Happy for you Jason and look forward to hearing about all of your success at the new company!
don’t know him super well but have heard GLOWING things about him. seems to be a great guy
JOHNNNYYYYY!!!! You’re the MAN! Much success to you – it undoubtedly will follow!!!
Congratulations, Drew!!! You’re going to do great.
love him! so glad he’s out!
I have never met anyone quite like jason. A guy who has such belief and adoration in his clients and respect and kindness for all others. You’re a great dude to look up to Shaps. Good luck!
As an asst at UTA I can say that Shappy could have been one of the most real, kind and respectful agents here. Its not the same without him. I could always talk to him or ask his advice and he would always treat me like any other guy – I’m not quite sure if many of the other agents even know my name. I’m really happy for you Jason.
someone get a tourniquet.. UTA IS BLEEDING. clients, agents… dear lordie. at least they have JLO PHEW!
Wishing you all the best man. Much success.
Salary for this agent with zero clients: 275K plus bonus.
Board conversation overheard at the end of last year: “…HE makes what?…we need to find him a job with that one agent’s ex…”
Working for 1/3 the salary, 6 months of Cobra benefits, and loss of travel, lunch and other expense write-offs:
Priceless!
Not so sure that’s correct RONALD… Met with us in November and sadly decided to go elsewhere… But if you keep applying yourself you’ll get there soon.
Shappy ROCKS! He is the best!!! 275K is a bargain to get him… he is worth TWICE that amount… Congrats to The Collective for nabbing the bargain of the century!!!!
Shappy!!! This is amazing! Congrats to you and to the Collective! Fab fab fab!!!!!
So after 10 years he “meets in November” and decides to take 57.5K with no benefits for a year, Subway lunch cards and bloated bosses in their 50′s (public schools include (insert east LA county). Clients now include (insert WB or UPN “star”). riiiiiiiiiiiight.
Thanks to all and to all a good night!
All together now, as we say “WHO?”: Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Margarita Levieva, Elizabeth Reaser, DJ Cotrona, Jason Clarke…
I’m sure that “asset to the company” was tough to cut ties with, with that client list. Good luck in that nice cubicle setting coffees with casting “associates” and other managers who use (insert copy place) for their “business cards.”
That W-9 should look a little depressing this year!
Go back to your job at the Dairy Queen in Cedar Rapids. By all accounts you make a great burger.
I’ll take the over on Shap.
Great guy. Congrats to him!
Who? Ever heard of Entourage, Friday Night Lights, TWLIGHT, Detroit187, The Chicago Code…
Here’s the thing: bottom line is the guy costed too much to do nothing with zero clients (or at least just one’s that make only scale deals).
The board got on the phone with a hack “manager” who decided to “take him off their hands” in exchange for future business, i.e. C-list “stars” — but still more than he made in all those years.
Easy exchange. Done. Good bye. Hello Subway lunches!
Ronald Johnson, it’s called owning content which The Collective owns a lot of. Did you ever hear of The Pimp Chronicles or Katt Williams? Millions of DVD’s sold equals bloated with cash. Managing on-line communities and helping an artist have a direct relationship with the consumer is a strategy not many in the10 percent business have a clue about or pay enough attention too. Jason Shapiro did his homework and then made a wise choice. Maybe the bitter sounding Ronald Johnson should actually take a closer look and see what’s going on over at The Collective
Congrats to Jason! He is an asset to any company he works for! They are lucky to have him!
He made a “choice” to leave? haha that’s funny. it’s a cost/benefit world. 275K per year v. scale deals return. Easy choice for the board.
hello Starbucks cards.
So “Shaps”…how is that new gig, er, “choice,” er, 50K salary, er, starbucks cards as gifts, er, no respect, er, ex-agent’s boss as boss, er, ha, working out? Cannot wait to set a lunch soon. Call the office.
sucka.
