Walden Media has picked up rights to Simon Bloom: The Gravity Keeper, and has hired Adam F. Goldberg to write the script. Goldberg’s best known for Fanboys and Aliens in the Attic. The young adult series by Michael Reisman is about an 11-year old who discovers a hidden magical forest in his New Jersey town. He and a pal happen upon a clearing where the Order of Physics has just met and where Simon is hit in the head by a book. It’s filled with scientific formulas the kids learn to wield like magic spells. Joined by a young girl fascinated by their ability to control gravity and friction, the trio battles a mysterious woman tattooed over with scientific formulas, whose goal is to take over the world. Goldberg’s repped by WME and Circle of Confusion.

Walden Media basically ended when Cary Granat got stabbed in the back by the Anschultz lawyer. The shell that remains has produced exactly ONE movie in the three years since he left- a sequel that will earn a quarter of the original. Congratulations to all.
It actually has made about half of the original worldwide, it also cost less, and it is still in theaters. So that’s twice the amount that you claimed, and much more than the cost of the film. Chances are it will match or do better than the second film, and cost much less.
I discovered this just now using a cursory Internet search.
Also Bandslam came out in 2009 and Ramona and Beezus last year.
Please stick to the Charlie Sheen posts.
And no I don’t and never have worked for Walden.
I’ve always thought the series Sweep would make a great movie series.
My kids have read the Simon Bloom books and they love them. When I told them they make a movie, they were ecstatic and immediately started re-reading the books.
Jeez, are they still in business?
Congrats to Michael Reisma, the author.
That’s Reisman!!!!
Harry Potter and The Deathly Boring Science Lesson
my kids are HUGE fans of the books. Upon hearing they had been sold to Walden Media, I told them there was no was danger of it actually making its way to the movie screen.
I recently had a meeting at Walden. I now understand why the agencies dismiss them and the studios who have worked with them, no longer seek their projects or money
Even the people I met with inside the company had horrible things to say about this lawyer who pretends to runs the company. Nice
How do you know you’ve lost your way as a prod co?
–You just hired the writer of FANBOYS.
The Fanboys screenplay was actually #5 on the blacklist. Movie was bad, but the script was good.
Just finished the second book. Best series ever!
