After her standout performance on Fox’s short-lived drama Lone Star, there was a lot of talk about Adrianne Palicki’s star potential. She is on her way to prove it by landing one of the most iconic TV roles, that of Wonder Woman. Friday Night Lights alumna Palicki has been tapped for the title role in NBC’s Wonder Woman pilot, David E. Kelley’s reimagening of the iconic D.C. comic. In the reboot, from Warner Bros. TV, Wonder Woman/Diana Prince (Palicki) is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the
elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley is executive producing the project with long-time collaborator Bill D’Elia. Palicki won the role of Wonder Woman, closely associated with Lynda Carter, who played Diana Prince in the 1970s series, in a decisive manner – she was the only actress invited to test for it. Wonder Woman reunites Palicki with the pilot’s director Jeff Reiner who previously served as director/co-executive producer on Friday Night Lights for the series’ early run on NBC. Palicki, repped by UTA and Anonymous Content, next stars in the feature remake of Dawn.

I like her but my lord is this going to be a disaster.
Agreed and agreed…”vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.” Good gravy no. no. no. #WTFmate
You people are all idiots! No matter who they picked the new person will never be Lynda Carter. That is who we have all come to know and love in this character. You all are dooming it before it even has a chance to be successful.
Is Debra Winger going to play her little sister?
Cannot wait. This will no doubt follow in the footsteps of the recent “Bionic…” er…oops.
This should be as good as GI Joe.
Only an idiot would move Wonder Woman from the Amazon to LA as if she never lived there.
YAWN!
>> Only an idiot would move Wonder Woman from the Amazon to LA >>
Uh, right.
The Amazon is a river in South America. Wonder Woman has never been based there.
Wonder Woman comes from Paradise Island, the home of the Amazons, but her series has been based in numerous American cities, including Washington DC, Manhattan, Boston, Houston, the fictional “Gateway City” in California and others. There’s no great reason she couldn’t be based in LA.
As in her secret ID, she’s been a secretary, a UN troubleshooter, an astronaut, an Air Force intelligence agent, a federal agent and more, so I’m not sure why “business executive” isn’t doable.
Not to say the show’ll be good; I don’t have a dog in that hunt either way. But nobody needs to move her from the Amazon; she’s never been based there. And she’s had a variety of jobs over the years, so people who can’t imagine her in any gig other than what they remember from the Lynda Carter show don’t know much about her history.
Kurt, more Astro City. Ktxhbai.
Best post of the day! Everyone else should STFU! Go ahead, Kurt
You tell ‘em Steve Dave!
First of all, when you think of it, the original Wonder Woman had the same premise, especially in the final two seasons which aired on CBS. The first season, which aired on ABC, was set in the World War II era. When she wasn’t fighting Nazis or the occasional extra terrestrial she was Yeoman Diana Prince, who worked alongside Colonel Steve Trevor in the Air Force. ABC dropped the show after one season and CBS picked it up as long as it was updated to the present day (meaning the 1970s as that was when it was produced). So when season two began on CBS we fast forward to 1977 and find out that Wonder Woman has been living back on Paradise Island for the last thirty or so years since the war ended. When a plane crashes and she saves it she is startled to find out one of the passengers looks exactly like Steve Trevor did back in the 1940s. Turns out that this is not the Steve that she knew, but Steve Trevor Jr., Steve’s son. All this makes her decide to move back to America to fight crime again as Wonder Woman while working alongside Steve Jr.at the IADC (Inter-Agency Defense Command, a secret government agency). Along the way she fights modern crooks and more ETs and others.
So the premise of the new Wonder Woman is not too far off from the original.
Holy hell YES! Adrianne is a phenomenal actress and beyond beautiful. About time she gets the spotlight. I’ll hand it to Clint Culpepper for casting her in three films back to back at Screen Gems – The Stepfather (which they recast because she towered over the extremely short man Penn, but still got a check), Legion and Red Dawn. This girl is destined for super stardom.
Are we looking at the same woman? I find her very plain. Plain at best. Wonder Woman needs to be a beautiful Linda Carter type. This actress, whoever she is, falls far short.
What do you mean, “whoever she is?” If you don’t know her, you haven’t done your homework. Watch “Friday Night Lights” and “Lonestar” and then use your imagination, not some cheesy 70′s knockoff of the superhero as a reference point…great actress, beautiful and sultry. Enough said.
That would mean actually watching either one of those shows. No thanks.
Friday Night Lights is a great show
I’ve never really understood where Lynda Carter’s brigade of fapping fanboisie came from. She was a lovely woman, of course, but she was never so brain-meltingly hot as to forever rule out the possibility of another woman’s playing the part; and I could never figure out what was going on with the bottom half of that Seventies WW costume, but DAMN was it ever not sexy. Yet to hear these guys talk, absolutely nothing but a precise clone of Carter in the role can satisfy them.
It’s not hard to imagine Adrianna Palicki in the role, and obviously she more than has the looks to pull it off. In fact, if we’re honest: she’s hotter than Carter was.
What a great choice. She’ll be a wonderful Wonder Woman.
Oh my god, Tyra Collette is going big time y’all. Who needs College
I’m still just so excited that she got into UT.
I agree with Mark, and think that Adrianne is a great choice for the role; that said, why screw with the original story line? Who wants a reboot done in LA destined to turn Wonder Woman into a soap opera queen? I suppose next Aqua Man will be rebooted into the Great Lakes to fight oil drilling? K.I.S.S. and follow the original comic.
The very title “Wonder Woman” is so anachronistic now. This is going to go down like a lead balloon.
I am so excited!!!! I will be waiting for the show to begin!
I am still waiting for the movie.
Yes Yes Yes. Perfect casting. Hopefully NBC doesn’t ruin this show. Or her.
This is an awful choice
Gimme a break, it’s a great choice- she’s tall enough (5’11″ without shoes), and sufficiently athletic to begin with – who did ya want some short actress like Megan Fox to play her?
No Bridget Regan who is way better!
Implants. Great.
That’s your modern Wonder Woman — Fake
Totally agree.
At least we have notice. So we can avoid the max four episodes before it tanks.
She might turn out okay, but certainly she isn’t the best fit.
What I still can’t get over is the fact that she is the only one they bothered to look at — very amateurish.
A train wreck waiting to happen
I am really excited now!!!! I love her!! I cant wait!!
Indeed. Pilot script just didn’t work. Why the heck does Wonder Woman need to run her own company??
why? Answer: David E. Kelley – that’s how he views every woman i guess
Watched Friday Night Lights for many reasons. One of those reasons was to see lovely Adrianne do her thing. Wonder woman could/should be decent with her in the lead. But I do wonder who the audience will be.
Red Dawn was MGM not Clint
Can’t wait to see NBC give WW the Knight Rider revamp treatment. Snoooooooooooooooore.
geez who wants to see this junk
Agreed this girl is like talented hot, but nonetheless this will be the first train wreck at NBC sans Jeff Zucker.
agreed – unless they tweak the pilot to add some edge, the ratings will stink. Remember the original TV series? It had several reboots and non-starts before succeeding with Lynda Carter
However, executives are very unforgiving these days, and if the show flops, it will get canceled very promptly. Kelly will disappoint WW’s hardcore fans, just like the Green Hornet which has thus far failed to make its production budget back (and that’s on 3D screens too)
I went to school with Annie. She is going to kick ass in this new role. Can’t wait to see the new show!
Wonder Woman is a strong, confident woman in charge of her own company … you should have got some more mature … then it would be believable.
can’t think pick someone without enhancements ? Shes awful too young looking. This is going to flop very fast
Very pretty with dark hair but her silicone implants are actually very weird. Makes the scene with the boobs on the doll highly amusing and silly. Couldn’t they find one woman au natural?
clear eyes. full hearts. can’t lose. this is very very good.
I adore Annie. I really do. She’s a nice person, a good actress, lovely inside and out. However, she’s not physically what I think of when I think of “Wonder Woman”. While Annie is quite tall, she’s quite thin with slight hips .. not a voluptuous, curvy framed woman. I suppose that’s something that can be overlooked if the rest of the show is good .. but .. purists are gonna have a field day with this.
u can stop talking now. “Annie” like u guys are friends.
Yeah..I agree..i am a bit concerned her body is too thin. I was hoping they would cast a woman with a stronger body shape..something like a Beyonce Knowles, Kim or Kourtney Kardashian…with Fuller hips & Butt. I also Don’t like that they are putting her in those funky blue pants…Gotta stick with the traditional 1 piece swimsuit style Bodace. A Few years back i would have chosen Catherine Zeta Jones for the part.
Wrong choice. Should have been Traci Dinwiddie.
I agree 100% with u. Im disapointed. Would be perfect if was Traci Winddie.
Shouldn’t Wonder Woman be tall?
Traci Dinwiddie is 5’6″.
kdb
C’mon, Kurt, Wonder Woman is a supernatural character — her powers (superstrength, reflexes, etc.) come from mythological gods. She doesn’t *have* to be tall, she just has to be athletic and even then not because her powers would make her athletic, but because she grew up in a colony of warriors, a colony of, powers or no, natural athletes regardless of height.
Serinda Swan would be a great pick to play Diana. Daniela Ruah would make a great WW for a movie series that she could film in-between seasons of playing near-superhero Kensi on NCIS:LA. Joanna Garcia, if ABC were to give up on the sitcom Better With You (and they shouldn’t — it’s starting to find its voice, IMO). Heck, if she wasn’t already locked solid into Parenthood, Lauren Graham could *still* play Diana for the next several years of her own career.
Honestly, though, I don’t know why they didn’t cast Keri Russell in the role. Unless she doesn’t want to be an action lead on the small screen, due to the time demands that single-lead shows (say, Felicity) have even when they aren’t action shows. In which case, Warner should just offer her more money. Lots more money. Or 13-episode seasons. Or both. We already know that she does the voice well and her small role in Mission: Impossible III shows that she could clearly play the role in live action as well as animation.
Also, really, since Palicki has implants, they really should wait and cast her as Power Girl instead of Wonder Woman.
So she doesn’t need to look tall or athletic, because she has superpowers. The same could be said for Superman, of course, but I figure most people think, when they’re casting him, that someone who looks reasonably like the comics character should be cast.
I’d say the reason to cast a tall Wonder Woman has nothing to do with where her powers come from, but rather what people expect from the role, which is a statuesque, athletic, good-looking brunette.
Well…this is going to end tragically. She might be good, or she might not, but they didn’t give anyone else a chance which sucks. Michelle Ryan, katie McGrath, Evangeline Lilly, or Bridget Regan would have been a much better choice.
Evangeline Lilly and Megan Fox are way too short – why don’t they pick short actors like Tom Cruise to play a Batman or Superman? Why? Because he is just too short, and the same goes for Lilly and Fox
Yeah this was cheating, no casting, they just invited her.Bridget Regan or Lilly would be better.
