ARC Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the ContentFilm International medieval action thriller Ironclad. ARC made the deal in collaboration with Barry Gordon’s XLrator Media, and will release the film theatrically in June. Directed by Jonathan English, the film is the true story of a motley crew of battle-hardened warriors who go to war to defend their country’s freedom.
Rome‘s James Purefoy, Brian Cox, Derek Jacobi, Kate Mara, Paul Giamatti and Jason Flemyng star with Jamie Foreman, Aneurin Barnar, Mackenzie Crook, Vladimir Kulich and Charles Dance. English wrote the script with Erick Kastel and Stephen McDool, and Mythic International Entertainment’s Rick Benattar, Andrew Curtis and English produced it.
“The partnership between ARC Entertainment and XLator is the perfect team to distribute Ironclad,” said ContentFilm’s Jamie Carmichael. ContentFilm most recently generated the Ian Palmer-directed documentary Knuckle that premiered at Sundance. The film, about a longstanding dispute between two clans in Ireland that gets periodically settled through bare knuckle brawls, came away with a remake rights deal CAA made at HBO for a potential series from the Eastbound & Down team of Danny McBride, Jody Hill and David Gordon Green of Rough House Pictures.
Here’s a trailer for Ironclad:

It is great to see independant film companies being able to produce outstanding films on an incredibly small budget.I think this film had 12 million pounds to spend as against 200 million pounds spent for the last Robin Hood film.Congratulations must go to Jonathan English and his cast and crew for an epic film produced on a shoestring budget.
Please explain to me how they financed this (somewhere north of £12 million) with James Purefoy in the lead.
Somebody liked SOLOMON KANE?
Explosions, battles, and hot knights. I’ll see it. Buying my sour patch kids now.
Was that Zach Galafinakis in medieval gear? I think I saw the Highlander do a cameo as well.
Sounds like its being dumped to 10 screens…welcome to the new economy!
Please enlighten the rest of us pleebs and explain what makes it “sound like it’s being dumped to 10 screens”. Sounds like you have experienced being dumped?
There’s some serious sword hacking and tons of blood. It’s a fun romp.
“Seen it in London”, you say “There’s some serious sword hacking and tons of blood. It’s a fun romp.”
I sincerely hope you’re being sarcastic. If not, if for you “tons of blood” equals a “fun romp”, please look within and reconnect with your Higher Self, the source of love and peace.
JJ, If i want to connect with my “higher self” (whatever the fuck that means), i don’t do it by going to a movie on a friday night. Stop pushing your low self worth and your so-called pseudo search for religious peace on others. Glass houses JJ, glass houses…
Warner Bros does it again with “Ironclad”!
As we all know, EVERY action movie MUST have multiple FIERY EXPLOSIONS and CLOSE UP DEATH.
Thank God the Trailer for “Ironclad” doesn’t disappoint.
First FLAMING BOOMS at 5 seconds in, then an extended FLAMING EXPLOSION SEQUENCE starting at 1:05.
I know what some of you are thinking. It’s a medieval period piece, so how the hell are they going to sweeten up the flick with modern day EXPLOSIONS-to appeal to EXPLOSION LUSTING psyche of boys 14-35?
No problem?
Catapults and FLAMING EXPLODING BALLS!
FLAMING EXPLOSIONS, PEOPLE ON FIRE, CLOSE UP SWORD DEATH- by golly, “Ironclad’s” got it all. Add a little dose of rah-rah guys defending their “country”, and a pretty young teenage girl, and Warner will make bank.
Cause making bank is what it’s all about, n’est-ce pas?
Yes, JJ, its is about “making bank” because this is show business and not show charity! Unlike you, I have seen the film and it is most definitely a fun romp with lots of serious sword hacking and tons of blood, as “Seen it in London” so rightly says. My own “Higher Self” is fine and connected, thanks, and sends you its middle finger!
IRONCLAD, although I think the title is wrong, is action-adventure, basically a MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake but none the worse for that, and gives moviegoers something for their money. It is also blessedly not in 3D. James Purefoy is excellent in the lead, by the way. And on a historical note, there were flaming fireballs in the Middle Age, as in put flammable stuff in the ballista, light and hurl! Try seeing the film before letting loose.
JJ
What planet are you living on, it is obviously not the same one the rest of us are on, I think you should go back to school and learn a little history, flaming fireballs and ballista etc are NOT a modern invention, these devastating weapons of war date all the way back to ancient Greek and Roman times and earlier.
The above comment is meant for JJ, not Ripsnorter
As long as there is no tobacco drug use.
