EXCLUSIVE: CBS’ untitled Ed Redlich/John Bellucci drama pilot, which was rolled over from last season, has been given a formal green light, with Niels Arden Oplev, director of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, on board to direct.
The project, co-produced by Sony Pictures TV and CBS TV Studios, centers on a female NYPD detective who possesses the special ability to remember everything and, although a gift in her job, it’s also a curse in her personal life. Redlich and Bellucci wrote the script, which is inspired by J. Robert Lennon’s short story The Rememberer, and are exec producing with CBS TV Studios-based Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly who originally developed the project while at Sony. Last year, the pilot was given a cast-contingent order but was pushed following difficulties casting the lead. I hear this time there are no contingencies.
The firm green light for the Redlich/Bellucci pilot comes on the heels of a slew of news stories highlighting the phenomenon of “superior autobiographical memory.” CBS’ 60 Minutes in December did a segment on it, a rare ability to remember each day of your life as if it happened yesterday, which is posessed by only a handful of people in the world, including actress Marilu Henner.
This marks the U.S. debut of Danish film and TV director Oplev, whose Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie has grossed more than $100 million worldwide and has received 3 BAFTA nominations. Oplev is already in business with CBS on the film side – he is developing The Keep, based on Jennifer Egan, at CBS Films. The director, repped by ICM and U.K.’s Curtis Brown Group, is also attached to Film Department’s Good People, with Tobey Maguire on board to star.

I love Nellie/DeadlineHollywood for posting all the pilot buys because the evidence is there for all to see. If this were a court of law, the evidence is irrefutable. A majority of middle-aged white male writers get their projects launched.
Well, A) I’m not sure what you mean by “majority”– are you implying that of all the middle aged white male writers in the world have their projects launched? Because I think it’d be a very busy pilot season if that were the case. B) I’d say a lot more “middle-aged” writers get their projects launched by virtue of the fact they are already established, what with them being middle-aged and more expereinced. And C)Do you really believe every white guy in Hollywood is in some sort of secret club where they’ve decided to only buy white writers’ projects? Because as a young white male writer who HASN’T sold anything, this would help me a lot!
Look, projects get picked up for a combination of three reasons: 1) Someone’s an established name, 2) someone’s a personal friend of someone else’s (or their agent/manager) and 3) It’s a good idea. If, statistically speaking, there are more white male writers than any other demographic of writers, it stands to reason there will be more white male writers getting their projects sold. Simple as that. Calm down.
Now, now, CB– you know the first rule of White Club is that no one talks about White Club.
As you’re a youngun’, I’ll let your post slide this time but if it happens again I’ll need to notify the Board and you’ll be expelled from the cabal.
P.S. your dues for January are past due.
That is ridiculous to say and an over-generalization.
Rina Mimoun has a pilot picked up at cbs, and the producers on this project also have a another pilot pickup at cbs with Susannah Grant writing. Also- one of the EP’s on this specific project is African American.
Furhtermore- CBS also picked up a project form BGE entitled THE RINGER that is co-written by a woman.
That’s 3 out of 8 dramas at that network written by women.
Oh- and the network head Nina Tassler, and the head of drama development are both women.
Get your facts straight.
Also, note that John Bellucci is mostly an actor with very few writer credits, the point being he’s done what a lot of complainers here say is impossible– getting a network to take a chance on a relative newcomer, albeit one that actually did the work to get noticed by an established pod (Timberman/Beverly)
Berlucci is Redlich’s best friend, and has been long rumored to have actually done all the writing for Ed over the years.
The sooner you realize that this town sucks and that most great ideas come from the unempowered who then must link up and get f-ckd by the ruling class, the sooner you’ll stop making irrelevant posts about who sells pilots. This is the most unfair biz out there. It is prereq to success to get jobbed at least once. So anyone making it now got the raw end of the deal once, so good on them.
in other news, young black males massively over-represented in the hip-hop charts
I don’t care who writes this genius stuff, I just love to watch it. A cop who remembers everything! I am in. A doctor who talks to a dead woman – my Tivo is set already. I’m particularly excited by the family doctor show. Keep ‘em coming – I’m buying a couple of more DVR’s and holding off my death date so I can get my fill of CBS programming.
Why do people even respond to Elia? Clearly this person is a talentless racist who can’t land a job. You know someone who has nothing better to do so they have to come on each post daily to say to everyone LOOK AT. ME LOOK AT ME!!! I would prefer reading smart comments from smart people and not ramblings of a bitter and talentless racist. Get a life!!
Guilt.
The Rememberer may be one of the worst titles I’ve ever heard.
@renner: that’s why the pilot is untitled; the short story is called The Rememberer but obviously they agree that it’s not a good title!
