Charlie Sheen has offered to partially reimburse the crew of his hit CBS comedy series Two and a Half Men who have been sidelined while the actor is undergoing a rehab treatment. Sources confirm a TMZ report that Sheen has offered to pay one third of the salaries of the crew for the time they have been on an unplanned hiatus, with producer Warner Bros. TV and network CBS covering a third each. There is no response to his proposal from the studio and the network yet. The studio has been exploring options to compensate the crew of the show but it is also waiting to see how long the hiatus will be. If Sheen returns to work later this month and as early as next week as some reports suggest, the studio will most likely be able to make up for most of the lost time and the crew would get paid as originally planned. No re-start date for Men has been set yet as WBTV and CBS are waiting for for an indication that Sheen is well enough to resume work.

I say hire Robert Downey Jr. to play the “Charlie Harper” role for the rest of the season and make absolutely no reference to the change in actors playing the role, a la Darren in “Bewitched”.
Karen — right on. Great idea. At least Downey’s face isn’t a glacier of Botox.
Having said that, kudos to Sheen. Very nice gesture.
Having read your suggestion, it occurred to me while I was watching The Good Wife how lovely would it were Michael J Fox (who was reprising his guest role as slick opposing attorney Louis Canning) to step in? I remember thinking “way back when,” that the substitution went remarkably well when Charlie Sheen replaced MJF on Spin City, which continued to be both funny and satisfying.
Knowing neither whether nor how Fox might want to approach the situations and relationships of Two and a Half Men, I trust whatever perspective he would bring would elevate and sustain the show. And perhaps set up an appropriate welcome for Sheen’s return.
Brining someone else in would be problematic because it would look like the replacement actor was “auditioning” for Sheen’s role in the event he can’t come to terms with his problem. I think they should just write a father/son road trip for Angus and Cryer. Their writers get paid enough that surely they can come up with an adequate storyline for these two very fine actors. It could be a great opportunity for Angus to shine and show what kind of actor he has grown into over his years on the show.
Way to go, Ma-Sheen!
I’m one third impressed at your one third of an act of graciousness!
Some selfish people say that Charlie doesn’t have to do this, but I say kudos to him for putting his money where his mouth is.
Normally this would be a kind gesture, but Sheen puts his money in his nose and on his penis. He pays more for booze, broads and blow.
You actually believe this was Charlie’s idea? Don’t really get how the P.R. agent thing works in Crackwood, do ya?
Seriously? He makes 2 mil and episode, and he can only afford to pay 1/3rd of their salary? The entire crews salary doesn’t even come near HALF what he gets in 1 week.
And what took him so long? I guess his PR people suggested it. Wow, a 3rd. Jimmy Kimmel personally paid his staff during the writer’s strike. And that wasn’t even his fault.
finally the wimp chimes in and “mans up” to his men
he should have done this the day he messed up instead of making the crew and its staff wait for him to “be well” and wonder if they where ever getting back to work –i can only think of the families involved anguish waiting to find out if he was coming back or the show getting canned
finally he maned up!!!! but only by a third he should do it all as CBS and Warner Bros. did not go on the “bender with ya” they showed up to work. So get both feet wet instead of just one toe, boy and jump in and take your lumps. You have the cash after 2 million an episode. Pay up the full amount!!!
hey charlie a real “man” question for ya
if one of your crew asked ya this
“head or gut!!!”
would you even know what the answer was or what to say–why it was asked and what to expect and then take the “shot”
or wimp out???
Haha, nice The Last Boy Scout reference.
Good man.
Yup
When this topic first came up I said right here on Deadline that this is what Charlie Sheen should do:
PAY THE DAMN CREW !!!!!!
I guess Sheen’s PR people realized that when their client makes gazillions he can spare a dime or two for his fellow brothers and sisters who make his show what it is, especially when his shenanigans and bacchanalian revelry is what has people out of work.
A belated one handed clap is in order for Charlie boy. Nice gesture … a wee bit late. But so long as it puts the bacon on the table of his crew, I’m for it.
What took ya so long Charlie?
One third? Oh bless his coke soaked heart!
Charlie, you have finally lost my belief that there is any chance you will return to the human race.
Why should CBS or the studio share any of the costs for your crew when their loss of money is SOLELY your doing.
How arrogant and self centered can you be? I forgot, you are Charlie Sheen, and you live in a world of self indulgence that only you can understand.
You have gone from sad and pathetic to disgusting.
Tom, you took the words right out of my mouth. Didn’t I read somewhere that he gets paid fairly well from his day job? How many zillions a year? I guess this only makes him two-thirds of a selfish prick, who is just beginning to realize that the livelihoods of many others depend on his ability to show up to work in a competent and responsible manner.
He gets paid what WB/CBS is willing to pay him. If you don’t like him getting paid millions of dollars, then get a job at WB/CBS and work your way up from your janitorial skills and if he’s still there when you reach executive, speak your mind then. Otherwise shut up.
Good for you Charlie for stepping up to pay some of their salary.
Maybe because Sheen makes umpteen times more than the vast majority of actors working in television. Why that is, who knows. He certainly doesn’t have the acting caliber to match an obscene salary that all goes up his nose and down his pants. That man couldn’t even sell underwear, much less carry that godawful show. The rest of his family ought to disown him, if they haven’t already.
Meanwhile, I guess his crew will have to make do in LA’s cost of living bracket by putting one third the amount of food in front of their children, maybe one third a roof over their heads, etc. How very generous of you, Charlie. Prick.
The real culprits are the dumb viewers who have made his show the most popular in America.
“If you don’t like him getting paid millions of dollars, then get a job at WB/CBS and work your way up from your janitorial skills and if he’s still there when you reach executive, speak your mind then. Otherwise shut up.”
Such an ignorant Teabagger response. It’s the same thing my girlfriend’s parents say when I bring up how inflated corporate CEO salaries are. Then they shout over me when I explain that the CEO salaries are set by the board of directors, and the CEO selects the board of directors. They also told me to go be a CEO in the automotive industry, if I wanted to disagree with them. They know what they’re talking about, they do, afterall, live in Alabama.
But kudos, Anti-Believer, for setting the rules that if someone wants to question Charlie Sheen’s actions, they must 1) change careers, 2) move to California, if applicable, 3) get a job as a janitor on the Warners lot and 4) spend years climbing the corporate ladder to head of the studio. Wow, it’s that easy?! I had no idea, all I had to do to call Sheen a prick is run a major studio! It’s so simple.
America! Love it or leave it! Yeah!
Then they shout over me when I explain that the CEO salaries are set by the board of directors, and the CEO selects the board of directors.
Your girlfriend’s parents are merely shouting to evidence their despair at their daughter’s having brought such an empty-headed dolt into the famly. In any corporation in which shares of stock are issued, the SHAREHOLDERS elect (not select) the Board of Directors. Only in a closely held corporation in which one individual controls all shares does he alone get to single-handedly structure a Board of Directors. Please stop worrying so much about the “teabaggers” (who are out-earning you), and go back to school, since you are clearly not in a position to call others
“ignorant.”
Anti-Believer’s point is valid — that Sheen’s salary is set by the executives of the corporations for which he works. No one except his corporate employers (and their Boards and shareholders) has a thing to say about how much he makes or how he spends it (unless his spending habits run afoul of the law, which they often do). Charlie’s life and his money are his own, to dispose of as he chooses. If he wishes to throw them both away, then that is HIS business. He doesn’t come to your trailer and tell you how to spend YOUR loose change, so your feelings about how he disposes of HIS millions are equally irrelevant.
Charlie’s weak sauce for only offering to pay a third. But when you really think about how CBS and Warners have enabled him and indulged his abhorrent behavior throughout this (and throughout his entire career), they aren’t free from blame. Maybe the network and studio should be on the hook for some of that money, since they turned a blind eye to Sheen’s epic rock-bottom freefall because they didn’t want to offend their cash cow.
And to everyone saying he doesn’t deserve what he’s paid, I’ll echo the other posters who pointed out that it’s fat, stupid, Middle America’s fault for watching the show and driving up the ad rates, which in turn give the stars leverage to name their price. It could be argued, based on viewership, that Sheen is worth every penny. People certainly aren’t tuning into to see the half-man.
@Hasbeen Aniston,
For all your ad hominems about about empty my head is, you sure have a problem with reading comprehension, homie. If you’d actually read my post and the one directly below it, you’d see that I fully understand how stars salaries are driven by the market and ad revenue. And I know as soon as you saw anyone second-guessing CEO salaries your Teabagging lizard brain had you seeing red and desperate to come to the defense of greedy millionaires.
Here, so you don’t misunderstand again:
I NEVER SAID SHEEN DOESN’T DESERVE HIS MONEY.
And in case you still don’t get it, here’s a direct quote from my post right below it, dated Feb. 9 7:17pm PST:
“And to everyone saying he doesn’t deserve what he’s paid, I’ll echo the other posters who pointed out that it’s fat, stupid, Middle America’s fault for watching the show and driving up the ad rates, which in turn give the stars leverage to name their price. Again, reading comprehension, dude. Step it up.
My problem with Anti-Believer’s immature and lame post was that his response to a post saying that Sheen was a prick (which is a quantifiable fact, based on Sheen’s behavior), A-B’s knee-jerk reaction was, “If you disagree with Sheen you must go get a job as the head of a studio.” And that is Teabagger rhetoric — stuff that’s been shoved down your throats by Dick Armey, the Koches, Murdoch, etc. that guys like you parrot. You can’t deny that. And the fact that you’re so insecure and defensive shows that you’re afraid that maybe your beliefs are not congruent with things that are common sense.
And believe it or not, I don’t live in a trailer. But good job, buddy, on not going with the old “mom’s basement” cliche! You’re very creative, and I can tell you’re a mature person with a lot of character. Special kudos on the “they make more money than you” jab. While I haven’t checked the tax returns of every Teabagger against my own (as I assume you have), I make a pretty decent living as a TV writer.
Which, of course, means my trailer is double-wide, dawg!
Why only a third? He makes so much money. His salary for one week would more than cover everyone. Especially considering he’s the whole reason for the shutdown. Although, I will admit that CBS and WBTV are also raking in the bucks from Two and a Half Men, so it’s not like they’re hurting for money.
What I don’t think you realize is no matter what the crew was gonna get their money, this actually shows him taking some sort of responsibility for his actions. Has any other star who has battled with drugs or injuries that could have been avoided, even offered in the past? I can’t recall one.
Can anyone say “insurance”. Production is totally covered for Charles not being in charge. Big premiums but worth it. Now give it to the crew you tight asses.
About time someone said the magic word: INSURANCE! This won’t cost Sheen, WB or CBS a dime.
sheen you sure are a waste of space. i think you are the only one who should be paying since you are the one who continually puts the show in jeopardy. oh yeah and CBS you are an enabler giveing this coke head all that money for this show.
Why only a third? Sheen’s an asshole. Runs in the family of course. Should the crew all tell their bill collectors that they’ll pay a third of their bills during this period? I mean, Sheen seems to think someone would be grateful and kiss his stinky feet for losing out on two thirds of what they deserve because he can’t control himself so why not bill collectors too, right?
Why doesn’t Chuck Lorre help too? The showrunners always seem to dodge.
Seriously. If CL takes credit for every story and every teleplay every week there is culpability there. But that ain’t gonna happen.
I wrote a book about Charlie and his family, got interviewed by CrimeTV over the Heidi Fleiss deal – I said at least he had the guts to say he used her girls and how much he spent, when all the other open flys in Tinseltown kept their mouths shut. It’s still the funniest show on TV and whatever it take to keep it going, great. Like or loathe the out of control boy, he does step up on occasion to make good. I just wish he’d take a final exit from the idiot loop without offing himself.
This is the only right thing to do (other than paying the entire bill).
A nice gesture from Charlie – but will this make all the crew members of his Porn Family as well?
Does insurance really cover this? It’s not like the star got sick or hurt in some accident. This is intentional conduct on his part.
First, I am neither a fan of T&HM nor CS, but no matter what he does, people slam him. Perhaps, WB/CBS came up with proposal that they would each pay 1/3, if necessary. The real end-game is if he cleans up his act and doesn’t snort his entire life away. It’s just a pretty pathetic situation all around.
Insurance should not cover this. Snorting cocaine, smoking cocaine, and having high-risk encounters with hookers and porn stars is not covered under any insurance policy. (I Hope.)
The guy has a serious problem, so it was best for him to get into rehab immediately versus making a decision on reimbursing the crew on day one of the hiatus. I’m sure all his health advice was to shut all work related matters off until he got into detox.
1/3rd is fair and extraordinary, Charlie isn’t the only one making money from the show and let’s not forget that there would be no show without Charlie, so the crew has benefited from the years the show has been in production, or they could have jumped ship to something else like The Price is Right.
Give the guy a break, he is sick, been publically smeared and trying to do the right thing within reason. For him to even entertain coming back to the show is a huge sign that he feels he owes it to the rest of the crew. In reality, it is probably best for him to just quit the show to focus on his recovery.
Seriously….are they not creative enough to shoot around him…or is he contracted 22/22. Brett P can answer…he knows everything? Brett???
Really. Not creative enough to write something into the story to excuse his absence or just shoot around him. The support actors are talented enough on their own. And at least it keeps the staff and crew up and working. Maybe Charlie is a 22/22 commitment? Ask Brett P whats going on…he knows everything. Brett?
If Charlie agreed to pay the whole of the losses for the crew he would lose a lot of leverage in any future negotiations. By keeping the studio (which is getting money from insurance for this anyway) on the leash for part of it he puts himself in a better position. Obviously, the crew should be paid IN FULL, not 75%, not 50% and certainly not 33 1/3%, but if I were one of Charlie’s handlers there is no way I would ever let him shell out the whole amount.
If he wanted good PR he should have offered to pay full freight until the insurance money came in and take reimbursement from that followed by giving the crew a little bit of “asshole tax” money on top of their full freight, which should be paid by the studio.
The studio has insurance for EXACTLY this reason. And you can bet damn sure that they began to pay the extra premium for rehab related costs several seasons ago. There is no reason why they should get to keep the extra money. None.
He looked like crap on the last episode I saw. Mostly shivering on the couch, looking like an aspiring crackhead. Hollywood is sucking the life out of yet another confused drug addict. But look at those ratings.
