Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Kathleen Parker is leaving CNN’s embattled primetime program Parker Spitzer, which she had been co-hosting with former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. Starting on Monday, the program will be renamed In The Arena, and will feature Spitzer, as well as several others within and outside CNN, according to a memo by CNN U.S. chief Ken Jautz. Parker is expected to continue to make occasional appearances on the cable news network. Ratings for Parker Spitzer have been minuscule since its October launch but went up while Parker was on a sick leave recently and Spitzer was the sole anchor. The show was also plagued by constant rumors about friction between the two hosts. “It has been a joy working with (Parker) as a teammate, and I continue to be a huge fan of the wisdom that jumps from her written work and the wit, charm and insight she brings to all that she does,” Spitzer said in a statement.

The show should be called “Rearranging the Chairs on the Titanic, with Eliot Spitzer”.
Eliot Spitz Parker Out
Well, the week that Parker was out sick, the ratings for Parker/Spitzer DOUBLED. I’ve never actually seen the show, just the ratings; did people really hate her or something?
I wonder if the ratings went up because KO countdown was out. I still refuse to see a show at 8 p.m. Reserved for Keith.
Spitzer is brilliant, and entertaining, has a great sense of humor and is a good host.
Great, now hurry up and kick Piers to the curb.
Wish you had more of Wolf Blitzer and less Spitzer, he could learn from a real Journalist like Wolf, but then again he seems to know all and it’s hard to teach that type anything, have to go to FOX when Elliot comes on stage he is sorta of to full of himself for my taste. Other than that 8 o-clock time slot I am a devoted CNN fan. Have a great Day
I don’t mean to mock Kathleen Parker, but Spitzer totally carried that show. Say what you want about his peccadilloes, he got a perfect score on his LSAT for a reason — he’s brilliant. While Parker might be a great journalist, she never stood a chance with the dynamic Spitzer, whose knowledge and camera-hogging magnetism, rendered her a non-factor on the show. I think that this show will benefit tremendously from this, as will both of their respective careers: Spitzer as a political pundit on TV, and Parker back as a reporter.
I couldn’t agree with you more….I’m ecstatic they are getting rid of her!
Listen, i like Parker a lot and with someone less domineering she will be great because her intellect is on a special level,Spitzer is great as well yet his ego and obsessive need for the camera requires is he play it alone like Odonnell ON msnbc. This is exactly the way Spitzer wanted don’t kid your self.
“Ratings for Parker Spitzer have been minuscule since its October launch but went up while Parker was on a sick leave recently and Spitzer was the sole anchor”
The only time ratings went up is when Parker was out sick? That’s hilarious. What a blow to the ego that must be to the pompous Parker.
There was a time when I looked forward to Ms.Parker’s columns but that has long since passed. I find her to be arrogant and dissmissive in the last few years. She issued a few to many insults for my tastes.
It has been a joy working with (Parker) as a teammate, and I continue to be a huge fan of the wisdom that jumps from her written work and the wit, charm and insight she brings to all that she does.
Translation: Damn, I’m gonna miss that rack!
Her nice rack was definitely a distraction while you were trying to pay attention to what was being said.
I’m sure Fox News would welcome the pious Parker with open arms. She was just too negative and a downer for the show, which is obvious as the ratings show people were more willing to watch when she was off the air than on.
I wonder how much of this is really her idea to leave or CNN allowing her to save face?
HELL to the NO Boop. Parker is a FAKE conservative. She is as lame as ARIANNA/
Spitzer has all the makings of a liberal Bill O’Reilly. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, but a solo show could get huge numbers if CNN marketed it right, especially with Keith moving to Current.
That makes me wonder if CNN even tried to go after Olbermann. If they had secured Olbermann to replace Piers Morgan, along with the revamped Spitzer show, they could have used these two as building blocks to rebuild their crumbling brand.
Hire Charlie Sheen to replace Parker- I hear he’s available!
And you know that he and Eliot have got to have some hookers in common.
This show sucks, just like most everything else on CNN and they wonder why their ratings are in the crapper. How’s that new show working out for you Piers?
From the get go, Spitzer had the show, no one is able to snow ball him, too brilliant. Parker on the other slowly crumbled… she is smart, but not as smart as him, and worse couldnt fake it…
God, I miss Keith Olbermann !
Dear CNN: Good move. Love the Spitzer and enjoy when he gets into one of his rants. Parker just slowed him down. No one should ever get in his way when he tries to get answers to important questions.
They need to replace her with Ashlee Dupree
Kathleen Parker, just like most conservatives, simply wasn’t smart enough to vie with Eliot Spitzer…
Now, he’s a conservaDem, and I’m not fond of some of his more righty poses, including his belief that nuclear energy is somehow ‘clean’….
But in terms of his penetration of the financial markets and enforcement of their regulatory oversight, few are better… and for that I admire him…
Ms. Parker played Mika Brezezinsky to Spitzer, though her tits weren’t quite as big…
WORD! Come back Keith, you’re sorely missed!!!
The ratings went up when she was away? Was that also the week Olberman quit? Anyway, I really appreciate Spitzer. Unlike most hosts, he actually listens to his guests and allows them to speak, unlike those crazies on FOX and the loud-mouthed Chris Matthews. I am just really concerned about Parker being replaced by this “panel of CNN hosts”. I imagine Candy Crawley and want to run away from my TV.
I agree this Piers guys is a bummer. Good thing MSNBC hasn’t axed Rachel Maddow yet.
Lay off Sheen. That’s in bad taste.
Unwatchable. Really, who cares about Spitzer. The guy doesn’t Fu over his wife and Fu hookers and nobody watches. Product of the times. Turn the channel.
When Couric’s contract runs out, CBS should replace her with Spitzer.
I can’t take it anymore…I’m rolling on the floor. Fans of Spitzer say he is ‘brilliant” “dynamic,” “magnetic” and gee, he scored so high on his LSAT! You Libs are killin’ me. That’s the same line of thinking that put that moron Obama in the White House.
El Derrico nailed it. The show should be called “Rearranging the Chairs on the Titanic, with Eliot Spitzer”. CNN’s producers are clueless. Their best people left and are now on Fox.
It’s because of cons like you that George W. Bush was elected.
Spitzer is slime and should have been the one to leave!
Well there is always hope
that he will in the future!
I love Eliot Spitzer and respect him a great deal. Need a new counterweight? Why not find someone who’s not afraid to say the crazy stuff rather than smiling and rolling his/her eyes? Would anyone take on the task against Spitzer?
A few months ago I e-mailed Parker, told her she didn’t belong on the show, and now she’s gone! My influence is greater than I had ever thought! But seriously, she never did belong on that show. She’s a decent writer, but doesn’t have the personality for that kind of TV show. Too soft-spoken. I have 2 words for CNN:co-host Dana Loesch. When they have her as a guest, she and Spitzer went after each other pretty good. That would boost the ratings!
It is about time they got rid of her. She never let the guests finishing answering questions. I used to wonder: why do you have a guest anyway if you appear to know it all? And she has that cynical smile as if she was making fun of her guests and her audience. I am not a great fan of Spitzer( just because of his past). But i think he is an outstanding interviewer and does a better show by himself.
Eliot Spitzer and “The Arena” are the antithesis of professional, expositive journalism. Please change your programming and remove Mr Spitzer. This programming is harming the CNN network and its reputation.
