Daryl Hannah is upset that an explosion of web reports have her starring as an aging porn star who tries to break a record by having sex with 600 men in a single day. The reports say she will star in Snuff, a Fabien Martorell adaptation a novel by Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk. According to her reps, Hannah has never heard of the project; an outspoken advocate who speaks out against the sex trafficking of children, she is embarrassed by this and has no plans to take part, I’m told. Her inclusion was the result of a misunderstanding between the filmmakers and her reps.

Shouldn’t this headline read that:
“Darryl Hannah wasn’t up to Snuff?”
another way to look at it would be just imagine the attention she could bring to her cause if she partook in such a project and did it well. it would reap far greater reward to take a chance, throw caution to the wind and do something that makes people uneasy. in the long run it’s a win win if you know how to manage yourself and your business.
but that’s just my opinion. ;- )

Totally with her on her advocacy against sex trafficking of children, but what does a porn star have to do with that – porn is willing consent if it’s an adult and she already played a stripper in DANCING AT THE BLUE IGUANA. Is a porn star that much further down the totem pole of depravity?
Like Palahniuk, but heard this wasn’t one of his better books. And CHOKE kind of choked at the box office. It’s probably for the better she doesn’t attach herself. Meryl Streep, the role up for grabs.
Brick. I’m curious why you would say something so mean and disrespectful. She is a beautiful, and sometimes very liberal woman. You could read that as “Liberated.” Should you wish, you can see that by watching the improvisational movie, “Dancing at the Blue Iguana”. You seem to believe that just because some woman shows you her body that she is somehow “less than” you and you are entitled to make fun of her. That’s not what it is all about. In the first place, you paid to be there… So who’s the person in charge now? You had to pay to be allowed into the world of Strippers. Now there are problems with what you thought you saw when you paid to watch, but those problems were all in your head. A naked beautiful woman is still beautiful, still naked, still a woman. Which one of those qualities are you paying to pretend to have in your world?

Daryl Hannah Not Doing ‘Snuff’ Film, says the headline.
Whatever the hell a “snuff film” is, or a film about a “snuff film”, I’m sure it’s yet another disgusting perversion of our entertainment/sex crazed “culture”.
That Daryl adamantly remains unattached to such loathsome garbage reflects well on her.
Here is an attractive, 40+ woman, with a social conscience, yet Hollywood shuts her out for being too old.
Hollywood is complicit in making the ultimate “snuff film”: Snuffing out older, beautiful women of character from their films.
She’s a great actress and wonderful person. How disgusting that this rumor began to prop up a film that no one would ever want to see.

Whoever came up with such a depraved plot obviously has issues mentally and sexually. Oh wait. It’s Chuck. Of course he does! What a sleazebag. Makes Bret Easton Ellis and Dennis Cooper look like altar boys. Daryl Hannah has played a whore a couple of times in the past but nothing overly gratutitous. She’s a good actress as anyone who’s seen some of her later indie work can attest. Much like Melanie Griffith who got stuck in a lot of studio junk early in her career only to reveal her talent in indie films later on. Hadn’t heard of this rumor but glad she isn’t a part of the film which sounds like nothing more than a cheap porno and some internet “journalists’s” wet dream. Revolting.
Perhaps you should read the book before simply dismissing it as “revolting”. Palahniuk’s one of America’s most talented and inventive authors IMO.
I’m sorry, maybe you should read this book. I have. And you know what? It was terrible, horrible, painful, stupid, obvious and boring. Palahniuk can write wonderfully on occasion. Fight Club, Lullaby, Survivor, Choke and even much of Haunted are very, very good. However, Snuff are utterly without merit of any type. A truly ugly and pointless waste of time. Plus, there is nothing cinematic about it at all. It could maybe work as a one act if it weren’t so dreadfully dull and heavy on expository narration, but there is nothing visual about this story, nor is there any arc to it all. We get the climax in two parts, one in a flashback that is straight exposition, and the other off screen, described for us later in a distinctly non-dramatic fashion.
Palahniuk is a satirist. Every time he tackles a lurid realm of culture, he does it with a piercing social conscience. He’s also a humorist, and can make the absurd hilarious, which is why his stories are so entertaining. Problem is, one-dimensional soap-box preachers such as yourself don’t get the joke.
By the way, is there something more “respectful” about being cast as a blonde-bombshell amazon assassin? Not to hate on Kill Bill, because it rocked, but why is murdering men better than sleeping with them?
In conclusion: your opinion is boring.
Hey, Jennifer Jason Leigh played a similar despairing character in ‘Last Exit To Brooklyn’ and a fearless, quirky star was born again.
But don’t kid yourself – it seems Hollywood would never make a picture about this subject without a little sleazoid, mysogynistic pandering laced inside the social concern.
Personally, I’d like Daryl in some sci-fi…
I’m surprised how offended some of you are by the synopsis. Chuck’s been around for a while now, and I was under the impression everyone and their mother knew he was acquired taste.
He tends to take things way, way over the top, but that’s just the sugar coating to help things go down. The guy enjoys a little depravity, nothing wrong with that. And underneath all the nastiness, is always, even in Snuff, some really interesting, if not challenging, character work, and dare I say it, conversations of morality.
Not a perfect writer, but always an interesting one.
If you’d read it you’d know that 95% of it takes place in the waiting room, narrated by nameless assholes who are somehow connected with and are waiting their turn to have sex with the aging porn star.
This is SATIRE people. And really if you read it you’d see that it’s all just kind of silly. I mean that ending is ridiculous.
I think Hannah should do it… it’s a fun role.

I notice that a lot of people blame the filmmakers, but lest we forget that agents are the sleaziest creatures around. I have a hunch (and a little more than a hunch) that the blame for this “misunderstanding” falls squarely on the sleazebag… oops, I mean agent.
Thora Birch is also NOT attached, has never read the script, and I’ve hear from her assistant was ‘pissed’ at being mentioned in connection to this material. Can’t blame her, it does sound fucking awful.
