DJ Caruso On ‘Preacher’

• That’s a bad choice. Caruso has a below average track record.
  His only good stuff are the episodes he directed for “The Shield” and “The Salton Sea”. The rest is forgettable and his last two movies are really bad.

  From the previously attached Sam Mendes to DJ Caruso…
  Considering the controversial and complex source material(even HBO dropped “Preacher”) it doesn’t look very good right now.

• Terrible. Mendes would have been great. The Coens could have done it. There’s nothing on Caruso’s resume to suggest he can deftly navigate the western genre elements, the (gruesome) dark comedy, and the meaningful spiritual message of the property.

• If they follow the comic they will offend everyone but the fan boys. If they don’t follow the comic they will upset the fan boys and everyone else won’t care.

    It’s going to be the same debacle that Constantine was. Many comics have story lines/characters that are strictly niche and don’t lend themselves to $100M grosses. Preacher is a prime example of it.

    Why bother, indeed?

• You seriously believe that Sony will do it? Nobody has BALLS to play this project, except Chris Albrecht at Starz, that could be interesting.

• well at least with dj caruso attached we know this project will never see the light of day. it has the potential to be one of the best adaptation properties, however, only with a really skilled filmmaker devoting a great deal of time to this gargantuan project, both in length and themes. dj caruso is far from that guy, even if john august had a chance of doing a good job. better this never gets made than caruso helming it.

• I just saw the No. 2 that is “I am Number Four”. I recently watched Eagle Eye as well, and have seen DIsturbia… This filmmaker touching “Preacher” is a molestation of great source material. I hope it gets canned and the studio slaps themselves in the junk for even thinking about it. There are only a handful of filmmakers capable of handling “Preacher” the right way, and DJ… He ain’t one of them.

• Not to happy with DJ making it, but if it is a success an they will greenlight other comics Garth Ennis has done. I’d love to see his Hitman comic made into one.
