Former ER star Goran Visnjic has signed on to play Dragan Armansky in Sony Pictures’ The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the David Fincher-directed adaptation of the Stieg Larsson bestseller. Visjnic’s character, the CEO of a security firm that employs Lisbeth Salander, is part of the entire trilogy and the actor has signed on for all three films. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara star in the Steve Zaillian-scripted film, and Scott Rudin is producing. Visnjic, who was a frontrunner for the James Bond role that went to Craig, most recently completed the Mike Mills-directed Beginners and starred in the BBC miniseries The Deep. He’s repped by WME and Management 360.

But what will they do if the first movie will bomb at the box-office? And will get some 30-50 millions. Somehow it reminds me Scott Piligrim. With all that crazy promotion and how critics praised it. And all that crazy promo campaign on the Internet and everywhere. Everyone who follows real life was telling on the comments that no one will go and watch Michael Cera as lead actor in action movie. And it bombed.
No one in the mass public knows Rooney Mara. People will not go to movie to see her. And all Daniel Craig’s solo movies failed at the box-office too. I don’t see this movie getting big money. And if it will not then why do another part.
“Scott Pilgrim” was a movie script written as a trilogy. This will be a trilogy based on a series of EXTREMELY popular books. All three books in the series were world-wide bestsellers. No, nobody knows who Rooney Mara is, but nobody knew who Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliff, or Kristin-I-constantly-pout-Stewart were either before they shot the “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” series. Having Daniel and Goran attached to the project adds star power to something that probably didn’t need it in the first place. Unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the past five years you’ve at least HEARD of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. Many, MANY people have read and loved the books. I think this is definitely going to be a winner.
Well do you remember movie Road? Based on extremely popular, Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Cormac McCarthy. Do you remember how many people love this book? How all adore this book? Should I remind you how much money movie grossed? $8 millions.
Harry Potter and Twilight live in their own world. And you know that 10-13 kids watch it too. While Dragon will be R-rated dark and sexualized movie. The one where adults can’t even bring their 15-17 kids too see it with them.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is just a famous book. It’s not some Harry Potter. People heard of it but it doesn’t mean that they will all rush to movie theater.
Of course I don’t know how it will turn out. Fincher did managed to turn that story of rich douchebags into good successful movie.
You made a very odd comparison. Scott Pilgrim and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are very different movies. One is based on a popular bestseller…the other an obscure graphic novel.
Hollywood has a very tough act to follow to equal or top these wonderfully produced and directed and superb actors in the Swedish films.Having read all 3 books twice and seen the Swedish films, can’t get enthused about your hollywood selections of actors and etc1time will tell.
This guy is so hot. Haven’t seen him in ages.
He just appeared on “Leverage” and in a BBC miniseries called “The Deep”. He’s also done a couple of Indie movies recently. He’s keeping busy. LOL
Great addition to the franchise.
I thought (or maybe just pictured) Armanksy much older?!
Me too. I thought he was 50ish?
Me too. But I guess if Visnjic is close in age in Blomkvist, it could work out. I pictured Armansky a few olders than Blomkvist though, based on the books.
Michael Nyqvist is just perfect as Blomkvist & I totally agree with U that Visnjic is close in age. But I can’t help feeling the US version will not live up to its Swedish predecessor..The Europeans are way more liberated. Wonder how they’ll retain the sensuality that Nyqvist successfully portrays in Blomkvist?! He’s a super sexy teddy bear LOL!!
So did I, yet one more reason to believe that the original Swedish movies of the trilogy will blow this Hollywood remake away.
so do i… its even mentioned in the book that he’s in his 50′s so not sure why they’re making him at least 20 years younger???
goran is 40 years old…with good make-up they’ll make him look 50…
Let me guess, Dragon Tattoo will be toned down to a pg-13 rating.
The Swedish film version was great. The second and third film leave room for improvement.
I picture Armansky older, at least old enough to be Lisbeth’s father, at the very least as old as Blomkvist. There’s only 13 years between Goran and Rooney, and Goran’s 4 years younger than Daniel. Buuuut I’m glad to see Goran getting work.
It also has Robin Wright (Berger), Stellan Skarsgard (Martin) and Christopher Plummer (Henrik). Shaping up to be an impressive cast.
Isn’t Goran way too attractive for this role? I thought this character was more of a middle-aged, ordinary, plain-looking guy. Goran is handsomer, taller and hotter than even Daniel Craig.
I think that Goran will do fine as ‘Dragan Armanksy’; what I don’t understand is… the HATE towards Rooney Mara, seriously people GIVE HER A CHANCE!
I just see no reason to make this movie again after it was done perfectly already with Rapace as Lisbeth. I also agree with hmmm that Armanksy is not supposed to be a sex symbol looking guy. I hope not but I smell disaster…
Armansky is much older in the books…not sure why Fincher needs to make him younger and hot suddenly!
That’s correct, Armanksy is much older in the books. Kinda odd they would do that.
I thought of Armansky much older, as well.
He is too hot for that carachter
Small world the man who should have played 007 is paired wit the guy who got the part, I still don’t see how
The swedish original is GREAT. Why do they make a Hollywood version?!
The age doesn’t really make sense to me. I think I remember Dramansky having daughters the sane age as Salander which on average would probably make him 50yish. I thought that he had known Holger Palmgren for years too. It’s not a major deviation to the story to be fair. I guess that’s why they call it ADAPTation.
can’t stand this guy and his “acting” –just check out 10 minutes of the deep, his niche – drunk balkan criminals (hint if you’re looking for next bond villain)
book is overrated, movies are so-so. hoping for a big r-rated franchise
I think he Is a bit too handsome. I thought Larsson described him as something like a beat up Eastern European man who had dragged himself up from nothing to build an excellent and respected business. This maybe a ‘Studio’ casting to sexy up the supporting cast because I didn’t picture any characters being as naturally aesthetic as this guy.
true…goran is from croatia, and armansky is half croat half armenia…could that be the reason?
You’re correct about the Croatian and Armenian bakground.
Sure there is more in casting than Nationality (otherwise a Swede would be playing Lisbeth and Mikael).
I just don’t get the handsome looks and the age. I reckon they’re going to try and skin a similar kind of dynamic between Armansky and Salander as there is with Blomkvist and Salander. I think that would be wrong as Armansky (although he suppresses his sexual lust for Salander) honestly loves her as a daughter figure.
Stieg Larsson must be spinning in his grave. Trust Hollywood to get the casting completely wrong. They’ll probably set the story in L.A. too.
He is too young for the role. Armansky is supposed to be old enough to be her father.
The Swedish version of the movie is outstanding and there is no need to make an American version. It’s just a greedy move to cash in on the popularity of the books.
a movie is a movie and ‘captures’ a viewer as they make a ‘composite’ mental/scape based on the images (visual/sonic/intellectual) presented in the film. you all know this. it may be a bust, it may be a success. i loved the books. i liked the second and third of the swedish films. the first one fell flat for me. i think fincher will ratchet up the experience to better capture the forward mommentum that the book has and also make us squirm mightily during the sordid events buried in her heart. i believe this will be commercial moviemaking at it’s best.
