Did you know that when Howard Stern is on Letterman…additional fire marshals must be brought in to deal with all the extra ‘hot air’?
This is the reason Howard visits so infrequently.
“This is the reason Howard visits so infrequently”
If you don’t like him, then that’s your problem. I love Howard and he makes Letterman a must see every time.
I follow Howard Stern like the Torah on twitter.
I thought it was a bit disappointing. He never went beyond junior high level insults. “Jay is horrible,” “Jay’s got no talent,” is that really the best he can come up with?
“Jay is horrible,” “Jay’s got no talent,” is that really the best he can come up with?
Howard is right, Jay is all those things and more.
First, Howard Stern is irrelevant these days. Second, Letterman stopped being funny long before Leno did. Letterman was born old and his body is finally catching up.
Johnny and Merv never took themselves seriously. Dave and Howard should reassess their worth to masses.
You are certainly correct about both Letterman and Stern. Letterman has become like an old phardt trying to stay hip. Stern really seemed interested in creating controversy as he made sure the public was aware of his mega-million contract and verbal puking about Leno.
What energy! Great clip.
He’s right! But he was too easy on Paul, who was hilarious on SNL as Don Kirshner, and hasn’t been in comedy bits for ages. He is complacent.
I thought it was a great interview. If you listen to the Stern show you’d know that Howard was just holding back when it came to Leno, Dave’s controversy, Oprah, and his apprehension for appearing on the show. Howard was really being sincere when he took his glasses off and apologized. I think all of his talking, and not letting Dave get a word in, was clearly nervousness. I really hope Dave calls Howard because I think both of these guys understand each and would benefit in having a confidant.
Geez, this a good example of why Jay is beating Dave every night.
Not funny and not interesting. Dave gets snarkier and more petty as he gets older.
What ratings are you reading? Dave now beats Leno regularly and often, frequently kicking his ass. You must’ve picked up a ratings sheet from 2992.
In yet last night Jay STILL beat Dave in the 18-49 Demographic. Letterman won’t win this week either as he had a 0.7 on Wednesday and Jay hasn’t scored below a 1.0 in the preliminaries all week.
Two points, Chris.
1) Letterman now beats Leno regularly.
2) While he may not have beaten him Wednesday, only a Leno staffer would know the exact ratings. You’re a shill. Now go tell Jay you were found out.
Gawwdd! Does anyone really care anymore about the so-called “Late Night Wars”?
If this was a rivalry where these guys were trying to top each other I might be interested but this has turned into a grumpy grumbling fest from guys who are so rich and entrenched that it’s just sad and boring!
Two filthy-rich, 60-year-old, past-their-prime white guys angry that a third filthy-rich, 60-year-old white guy took a job that was offered to him. Give it a rest and grow up, grandpas. Jay is counting his money and minding his business. I suggest you two meddling old geezers do the same.
hahaha! great one!
Was it a good clip? I wouldn’t know. Didn’t feel like sitting through the long commercial for a show that’s supported by commercials. It you can’t click it (and get through it), I quit it.
Leno is really awful. That’s the bottom line. He’s something for middle america to fall asleep to. Letterman is much more intelligent and capable of a great interview.
Howard is brilliant and got Dave to admit that he will be retiring in two years, or so….
Stern loves Leno. Every time he bashes him, he gets more publicity–he should send Leno a gift basket. Wait a few days, when Stern drops out of the public’s eye, he will come back and start bashing again. If anything, he and Letterman are consistent. This is like watching two vultures picking on the bones of a deceased zebra, and just as entertaining. Don’t wait for 2013, Letterman–please go now….and take Stern with you.
I miss Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf.
“Hoo Hoo, I invented Late Night.” Stern sucks.
Srsly. Do people really want to see two cranky, bitter, old has-beens dumping shit all over another old has-been? At least Jay isn’t cranky and bitter, I’ll give him that much.
Letterman’s whiny bitter, I-Should-Have-Gotten-The-Tonight-Show-Back-In-1992 is over and done with. Stick a fork in it, already. It’s ancient history. The truth is that Leno has been #1 in late night since 1995 and continues to be and for whatever reason, Letterman can’t get over it. He writes his own ticket at CBS, owns the show, owns Ferguson’s show, has a production deal with Worldwide Pants and he’s still pissing and moaning about Jay Leno?
Like other posters here, the daypart is not worth fighting over. It’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
For Christ’s sake, Give. It. Up. It’s tired and passe and nobody fucking cares.
And as for Howard Stern? Teenaged boys and bitter old men like Letterman. And women with no self-respect. These two deserve each other.
Howard was very good on the show last night. He made one point that was right on target: Leno was on the ropes last January in the court of public opinion. He had just taken Conan’s job, and his image was piss-poor. Then, as Howard said, Dave threw Leno a life-raft, for some reason, by bringing him in to do the Super Bowl commercial with Dave and Oprah. It was a big mistake, as the commercial kind of gave Jay a second life. I’m still not sure why Dave did something like that. As Dave said to Howard, “it seemed like a good idea at the time”. I guess, but really, it wasn’t all that great an idea then, and it certainly doesn’t look smart now.
I would like to see Ricky Gervais get a late night talk show. That would be excellent.
SaMoGuy,
I’m inspired by your brave stand against monetization of free videos.
You are truly fighting the battles that matter.
All the sniping back and forth is funny or should I say just forth because I never hear Leno engaging.
All I know is that Leno keeps winning which makes the insults sound even more pathetic.
Why does Dave always have to elevate his chair so he’s always much taller than his guest? Howard once on his radio show exposed Dave for doing this he said he can’t believe how insecure Letterman is he has a special chair so he’s always six inches to a foot higher than his guest. Stern is very tall but when he’s sitting there Dave is six inches higher. What is Dave’s problem? Why does he insist on doing this? Can’t he be at eye level with his guest?
Did you know that Jay beat Dave once again last night, dang, better luck next time. Who are they going to blame when cocobean head gets fired again? Ratings are down 1.2, back when NBC canned him. Get over it and get a life people. I guess Stern is Punxsutawney Phil, merges out of his pile hole every year. Time for Dave to go CBS can save a bundle, bring back the morning crew. I have 350 channels now, I don’t watch talk shows anymore. Apparently neither does America.
Jay should be laughing his ass off. The past his prime Letterman brings in the past his prime Stern to bad mouth Jay Leno. No class. No comedy. No ratings No wonder.
Last I checked we still have freedom of speech if the anointed one doesn’t change that too, you can voice your option, rather you despise or like this vile person or not. That’s why they have these comments here Can’t get away from this BS. Other news outlets bring this up. They are all shooting themselves in the foot.
