UPDATE: I am not alone in my opinion. I’ve just received confirmation that insiders have been complaining for weeks to Universal that this trailer is not funny and not representative of what they claim is a good comedy. Let’s see if the studio tries to improve on it. (And let’s not forget that Universal released The Dilemma trailer with the gay slur.)

On tv and in the movies comedy continues to sink lower and lower…taken over by lazy, mediocre writers who can’t let one minutes go by and not fall back on some lame, tired, gross, or bathroom joke that passes for funny.
Writers write what they think studios will buy, which this one was (bought). The problem is that every so often one of these horrid comedies is a hit (The Proposal et. al, come on down!) and then guess what happens? Blame the crappy taste of comedy audiences – in the end they dictate what the market provides.
So wait…it’s “Bachelor Party” but not funny? Someone had to pitch that.

Toddy Bunzi is a nerd from Brooklyn who girls never paid attention to, and still don’t. So why all the hate for The Dilemma. Yes, it’s a crap movie written by a crap writer in Allan Loeb, featuring the nastiest man in Hollywood, Vince Vaughn.
But let’s stay consistent. We’re calling out Wiig. Yeah, she has that same distant comedy bit she always does, but let’s not pretend like Hollywood is really capable of writing dialogue that features anything but terrible jokes.
That’s well said. MOST of Hollywood “comedies” are tepid. So that this one stars women should be underlined as crap? I don’t get it. I mean, if we’re going bust out the garbage meter and connect it to the last 40 studio comedies made, the thing would explode.
It’s a fine line but I think the issue is that the line was in The Dilemma’s trailer. In the trailer for “The Hangover”, they actually changed the line to “Paging Dr. Douchebag.”
They didn’t use the word “faggot” in the trailer, if you remember correctly. They changed it.

Seriously. I think Wiig is the funniest actress/comedian in the history of SNL. I’m a huge fan! I think she’s way funnier than Fey, but again, people in America want to see Adam Sandler, so there’s nothing I can do about that.

I bet they’re hoping Fast Five will be their saving grace this year, but reality check…within 2 weeks of premiering the new trailer it dropped off the “most popular” page on iTunes. And it has killer competition throughout the month it releases. So it won’t be no $350 million grosser this time. Sorry Universal, but until you stop making bad greenlighting decisions, you’re going to be the laughing stock.
This looks truly painful. Perhaps Juddy Boy should have watched Fox’s “Bridewars” to see how this is done. After the trifecta of epic failures Funny People, Year One, and Get Him To The Greek, can we assume it’s no longer safe to bet on Judd to win, place, or even show?

Read this script – clearly from the trailer, its not a final version, but the major plot moments all seem in place – its decent. If they can elevate it from what I read, it might be a good lil comedy.

If Judd Apatow had made “Bride Wars”, people would be going CRAZY about what a misogynist he is. That’s a kind of movie you watch to learn how NOT to make a female-centric comedy.

Unwatchable?! Really?! Why because she’s on a sketch show that uses her too much because she’s been the only funny woman on there for the last 10 years? She puts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to shame. You can’t compare her acting on SNL to what she’s going to do in this movie.
I read the script (version #18 — as I understand there were 26 drafts) and it was genius. Finally a movie that let’s women be funny and not just ornamental reactionary sidekick to goofy man-boys. This movie is going to kick off a season of female comedy’s that are about women and not men. Thank-god!

I’ve loved almost everything Apatow has written and hated almost everything he’s produced but not written…Superbad being the only exception so far.

So as someone unencumbered by bias in this discussion, I agree with you. The lead in this trailer seems like a natural comedienne, very funny, great timing and even able to act. I don’t know where Nikki gets calling her “unwatchable.” She’s completely watchable.
But there wasn’t a decent gag in the whole painful two-and-a-half minutes. She still needs a script.

She hasn’t been funny on SNL for YEARS. Everybody’s sick of her slight variations of the same character. Everytime a Wiig skit comes up, I groan and hit FF.
The trailer is bad but frankly, even if it were about the love life of a wheelchair, Rose Byrne is in it…..so I’m in, too. I just wish she got bigger and better opportunities for features.

Yes, some of her recurring characters on SNL are grating – all recurring SNL characters get there eventually – but she’s an amazingly talented person.

Kristin Wiig is decent. And this trailer looks, meh, but you can see the actual beats of the comedy and structurally it seems sound as a story even if the punch lines are punchless. “Bridesmaids” could be one of those movies, not unlike “I Love You, Man” which seemed blah from the trailer but was genius in its execution and, yes, funny.

As I watched this trailer of “Bridesmaids” I kept thinking Anna Farris would have been better and more appealing in the lead role than Kristen Wiig. Anna, after all, IS funnier than Kirsten. That’s all.

This movie is bound to make alot of money and Universal was smart to go through with this project. Wiig knows more about comedy these days than any other comedian. This film will not only make alot of money, but it will also receive good reception. Your just jealous Nikki and you know it.

Here’s the deal. I get it. THE HANGOVER for woman. Here’s the problem. IF that was the GOAL, and yes, I know there many of these in “Development”, it just HAS TO HAVE HEART. And at the same time, REALLY push the button. Like REALLY, or else, we got some LAM-O knockoff with nothing special, just a carbon copy. Get REAL leading leadies to play these parts. Not the FUNNY/AWKWARD crew. If we see NORMAL, people getting into HILARIOUS situations = FUNNY. Simple. Females, I get it, we need funny movies, but we also have vaginas, and a bad side. Right now, it seems like it is about a woman who has concerns about being her friend’s maid of honor. BORING. What’s the problem I want to see fixed? In the Hangover, it was about guys that take a groom to Vegas and lose him the night before the wedding. I’m a chick and I want to see that! And I did… and I loved it!
