Love it! Max is incredibly talented and a class act just like his father.
This looks good. Definitely going to check it out.
The little kid who is supposed to be Uma lover looks like her son. No chemistry.
I got to see a screening of this and frankly, Star, you couldn’t be further off point. It’s a delightful movie and I think you should probably reserve your judgments for after you’ve actually seen it.
Really? You can tell if they have chemistry by watching a 2 minute trailer? It must be nice to be able to judge an entire movie without seeing it. Must save you a fortune in movie tickets costs.
Is Uma supposed to be Michael’s mom?
Saw this way back at Toronto and it was amazing. Literally can’t wait to see it again. Max Winkler is at the forefront of a whole new generation of smart filmmakers and I can’t wait to see all of the wonderful movies he’s going to make during his sure to be enduring career in this crazy little town of ours.
Awright Max, we get your point.
Me? Max? I wish!
This looks pretty awful – a rip off of countless movies that have come before it? (Younger man who wears kooky outfits and is in love with older woman. Hmmmmm) It would be heartening to see young filmmakers stake out new territory and not rehash the same old. And Star is right about Uma and Angarano – looks like zero chemistry there.
you’re right, it does look like someone’s watched rushmore a few too many times
Don’t forget the wannabe cool guy supplying the drugs. Man coming back to win the love of his life back from the taller, funnier, better looking man. Plus there’s a lack of diversity which makes this movie feel even more trite.
A lack of diversity? If that’s what you’re concerned about you’re obviously mad at this movie for the wrong reasons (petty, personal ones maybe?).
And honestly, what is the precedent for this “wannabe cool guy supplying the drugs” character you seem to think is so played out? Literally name the movies.
It’s fun to find stupid little stuff to pick at so you can ignore the big stuff that actually works (i.e. story, characters, themes). But to know about those things, you’d have to actually see the movie, and I’m sure you’ve already made up your mind.
What’s with all the vitriol? Isn’t it easier to just be nice and not expect the worst of everything? Can’t wait to see your guys’ movies, by the way. Let me know when they’re coming out.
The fact that you don’t see the lack of diversity as a problem means you are apart of the problem. Can you name 10 Hispanic male actors? How about 10 Asian-American Actresses? Can you name 10 Middle Eastern Actors without using a search engine? I bet you can name 10 White actors and actresses without such assistance.
Look around you. This world is rich with diversity, culture, as well as interracial relationships, but when I look up at a TV screen or Movie screen I usually only see one color. Adding in different ethnic groups gives different perspectives which enrich any tale being told. If every movie that came out looked like a Tyler Perry film would you not make the same observation?
You say: It’s fun to find stupid little stuff to pick at so you can ignore the big stuff that actually works (i.e. story, characters, themes) The story is unoriginal, the characters lack depth for they are cliche, the theme has been done over and over in sitcoms, rom-coms, dramas, novels, and comics. It’s trite.
Either you’re a simpleton, or you simply lack any knowledge of film. It often doesn’t take more than a trailer in this age of entertainment to know everything about said work, and I’ve seen this trailer about a dozen times.
As for the movies with wannabe cool guys supplying drugs, they exist in a little sub-genre known as “Stoner Comedies” this character is prevalent in each of them.
What’s with all the vitriol? No vitriol. Just questions. Questions you seem incapable of answering. Did you even comprehend my previous post? Or did you just see an opportunity to feign superiority through impertinence?
Yes. I will definitely be watching this. thank you
This looks so good, and I’ve heard great things from people who saw it in Toronto. Jake Johnson was the only good thing about No Strings Attached, and he looks even better in this.
This is a very loose interpretation of the term “Hot Trailer.”
Hey “movietoy” and “Star” and “Art”, why don’t you guys go start a sad sacks club for people who are bummed that there’s nothing truly “new” in the American cinema landscape. I bet you’re really excited for “Uncle Boonmee in Connecticut” or whatever it’s called.
This is a good story, well told. And that’s all that matters. Or it should be anyway.
HATERS ON SCOPE
Be honest, Haters.
It kills you there isn’t a superhero in this thing…
Will definitely see it. nice to see a story actually playing on screen, instead of a ticking clock.
you speak the truth.
I saw this movie at TIFF a few months back and was extremely impressed with this young filmmaker. I can guarantee we are going to be hearing Max’s name for years to come.
Saw this in toronto. Excellent flick. Well written/directed/acted.
Good to see young Winkler breaking out. His Dad is one of the finest human beings in this town. I wish Max great success!
The best movie i saw at Toronto. i cant wait to see what this director will do next!
Looks like being related to the ‘Nicest Man in Hollywood’ has rubbed off some karma on Max. The picture looks quite refreshing I must say.
I got antsy watching the “Ceremony” trailer.
No car chases, fiery explosions, or gun shots…until 1:15, of course.
Still, I lot of talk-talk, something about a younger guy/older gal, and the most violent thing: Uma slaps a guys face.
And the guy didn’t hit back or anything!
Nor did he run out of the room post-slap and go on a killing rampage.
Trailer aimed at the 18-50 year old female demographic.
Tarantino knows how to bring out Uma’s wild side.
Winkler just brings out her female side.
No sword fight, gun fights, flaming cars, broken bottles…just a lady lusting after a younger guy & vice versa…
What’s become of movies today!?
Congrats to Max! Best wishes from his AEPi house mom!
I’m sure this will make no money, but it looks really good to me. I like the cast, like the look of it, and think Mike Anganaro makes interesting choices and is gonna be a big star.
People have been drawing comparisons between Ceremony and Submarine. Seen them both at individual film festivals and while both showcase two young, promising filmmakers from the class of 2011, really loved Winklers debut more.
Uh majorly disagree, sorry but max isnt even on the same playing field as Richard Ayoade.
I thought Hot Trailers were for Hot movies.
No one mentioned Lee Pace at all in this forum so I’m going to be the first. EXCITEMENT!LOVE THAT MAN!
hear nothing but good things about this one. seems like the buzz train is coming this picture’s way at the right time. love angarano. love lee pace. and nice to see uma making a good choice for the first time in a long time.
This looks aesthetically amazing. Also, the trailer had me, so the movie’s gotta be good. This Winkler kid has good taste.
This looks AWESOME! I can’t wait to see the whole thing. Young and talented director, young cast, and throw in the ultra stunning Uma…goosebumps
