hmm, I do like that Disney didn’t use their teen stars, but it looks like it’s trying for a John Hughes feel and not quite getting there. They should have used Mika’s We Are Golden instead of the overplayed Fireworks by Katy Perry. It’s a toss up. The teen stars (well chosen) look like they can pull it off, but the director doesn’t inspire too much confidence. It’s effective on the whole and has a good release date. Thumbs hesitantly up for Ross’s first release.
LOL! What?! You got all that from the trailer? director lacks confidence? LMAO! You’re funny. ;- )
‘doesn’t inspire confidence’ is what I said… meaning Nussbaum doesn’t indicate that this will be any good. he’s gone after the genre before:
Sleepover- 15% RT – $8mil BO
Sydney White- 37% RT – $11mil BO
American Pie 5: The Naked Mile – why bother?
LMAO, indeed
PLANT!
25 year old high school seniors! I LOVE IT. THAT’S LIKE, SO COOL.
Rich Ross has been coasting on the success of Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3 and soon Pirates 4. All these were established long before his ascension to studio head.
Rich Ross must know and understand the youth market, because this trailer has absolutely no appeal to me…must be an age thing…or, perhaps, it isn’t very appealing to anyone.
Time will tell.
popping wet turd
Do we have to pretend like this is a big hit like we pretended Tron Legacy was a big hit?
It’s exhausting when the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes.
fantastically ironic… considering the only thing RR cares about is what people wear. hires based on wardrobe.
I love that most of the kids look like kids. Not everyone is beautiful. A definite John Hughes feel. I wish it only the best.
If it fails, then we can all look forward to more movies like Easy-A, where everyone looks 24-30, and the story beats are over-the-top, unrelatable, and fairly stupid.
“most look like teens” – yeah, except mr. long hair rebel. How many times has he been held back? Should be in the remake of Room 222.
Regarding age, America seems to eat up Glee and their youngest “high schooler” is 21. Then 23, the male and female lead are 25 and 29…..
Seems to work for that piece of garbage.
At least EASY A had smart fun writing and Emma Stone has more talent in her right pinky than any of these “High School Musical” like Disney kids.
trailer made me smile and LOL. reminded me a bit of my high school years. and it’s a corsage! i know & am not afraid to show it. and i’m not afraid to say i look forward to this.
Tim DAX
a manly man ;- )
DISNEY?? I hope this is a typo and you (as well as whomever cut the trailer) mis-typed/mis-spliced the wrong Disney logo here.
Shouldn’t it say DisneyKids? Or ABCfamily? Or something like that??
Looks cute. I bet my kids will see this.
Sticky sweet… Disney gummy bears and lollipops.
High School is more like Easy A… Now that is a good John Hughesque film!
Disney stick to your Pixar, Marvel and Dreamworks and call it a day!
looks cute. a very good trailer for what is probably a so so movie.
I know it’s college, but most the characters are 18, so if you want to see a fun, twisted sexy romp, check out KABOOM, Gregg Araki’s new film, still playing at the Nuart in LA this week. I swear this isn’t a plant – I personally feel it’s the first must-see film of 2011!!!!
It rocks and has real looking teens playing college aged kids. They don’t look fake like basically everyone in PROM.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I HATED Kaboom.
I’m convinced the director just made it as a goof. Because it makes no sense and that ending was a big middle finger to the audience.
Dean Norris is in this movie… I’m so there!
I think it looks cute. I’ll probably actually watch this. Of course I am a sucker for John Hughes type movies.
Aimee Teegarden!
Well, it does look better in the trailer than it does on paper. And extra points for not going with any of their Disney Channel starlets.
OMG! OMG! It’s a CW/FOX/GLEE TV show starring Johnny Depp’s son.
No thanks.
Of course the first greenlight from Rich Ross is a film that appeals to his Disney Princess mindset. Who is actually going to see this other than pre-pubescent girls?
Perhaps a little over-targeted, but anything with Aimee Teagarden in it can’t be all bad. I think the entirely predictable overall message is, “We’re gonna make some money here, goddammit!”.
Memo to studios–stop using Katy Perry for every trailer.
I think this looks horrendous. Disney should send this direct to video..What a piece of S###!!! Nobody will care
Memo to the studio get rid of the creative exec working on this, obviously has no clue, yet again, how to market a “girl” movie.
Hmm. It’s interesting for sure, but I’m still not convinced what has worked for Mr. Ross in television development will translate into blockbuster films in cinemas.
I love it. Fun, fresh, happy. Memo to all haters: It’s just a popcorn movie, people. Enjoy it for 90 minutes and then get on with your life.
Really does look/read like a B level Disney Channel movie. I have no doubt 7 year old girls will see this and it will do okay, but to compare this to John Hughes is to insult John Hughes.
That said, Aimee Teegarden has a really great rack.
I’ve seen the film. Hmm… is right on all counts.
If your daughter is between 11 and 13 they will love it. Don’t bother trying to take any boys, they will hate it.
OMG- A black guy dating a black girl in an all white high school! How refreshing! But wait, this time they’re actually popular not just friends with the popular kids- yawn
Why didn’t they just call this NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE and name the black guy “Token” like in South Park? Oh wait, because I guess it IS just another teen movie. This looks awful. I wonder if Token gets killed first (you know, like in horror movies).
So what exactly are you saying? That the black guy should be with the white girl? Because as a black female in an industry and country that marginalizes the hell outta black females, it IS refreshing to see the black guy with the black girl.
Julie Taylor/Amiee Teegarden is too cute.
Holy shit, some of you lighten up! If you’re a real 12-to-14 year old girl, please weigh in about whom this movie will appeal to, hence a successful box office take. Not my cup of coffee, not meant to be. BTW, Rich Ross did a great job at Nick, so cut him a little slack. After all, he scored points by inheriting a movie slate and didn’t screw it up. These days that counts in the exec suite shuffles. That said, Google his photo. Be honest, doesn’t his smile remind you of The Joker? Huh?
