American Idol is finally bringing voting to the Web. After increased speculation, Fox just confirmed that it will introduce online voting for the first tine this season, starting with the first performance show next Wednesday. Voting will be done on americanidol.com through a deal with Facebook, which will require viewers to use their Facebook accounts in order to vote. “We have been wanting to do online voting for several years, and now Facebook has offered us a secure solution and we are ready to go,” said Idol creator/exec producer Simon Fuller.

Good. I haven’t watched this show since 2006, but out of boredom I watched last night’s episode and it was interesting. I might decide to vote for the contestants this season, and online voting would be convenient for me.
Hackers- arm your keyboards!
Did anyone ever really believe Idol voting was ‘one person, one vote’?
Excellent! No more cell phone/AT&T charges!
Now why don’t they just ADAPT this SAME model for Academy voters? Each member can have their own username and password combination – and voila! Tens of thousands, if not more, in cumulative administrative savings!
and now myspace is officially dead…
