Jenna Elfman is in negotiations for the lead in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot Bad Mom. The project, from ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment, centers on Julia (Elfman), a single mom whose two kids had been raised largely by her mom. When her mom decides to get her life back, Julia has to do it alone. Bad Mom was created by British writer-actress-comedienne Sharon Horgan who is executive producing with Aaron Kaplan.
Former Dharma & Greg star Elfman headlined CBS’ multicamera comedy Accidentally on Purpose last season. The actress, repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment, next co-stars in the feature Friends with Benefits.

Bloody hell, Paul. Haven’t we been down this road before with Jenna? With all of your recent decisions, it’s beginning to look as though you live in the past. Look Forward Paul. Think out of the 99 Flake wrapper.
Chauncy
“Bad Mom” – The story of how a woman raises her children to embrace Xenu and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to follow the rantings of a bigoted sci fi hack. I can’t wait!
How come the good majority of ABC and NBC pilots sound great this year with a few exceptions (Wonder Woman)? Is it because both of these networks are now run by creative types?
Snooze fest. Who really wants to see this nutty scientologist back on tv. Huge pass for me.
Scientologists get all the roles, no?
TV is a place where good actors can continue to return and star on different shows. But there are some people no one really wants to see anymore. I doubt Jenna Elfman has enough of a fanbase to be starring in high profile network comedies. I don’t hate her, but I don’t recall Dharma and Greg being a monster hit that everyone still loves and even watches now in Syndication.
Jenna Elfman is a real talent. It’s so good to hear she’s going to be back on our screens!
She is grading and has a hard time hiding her self-centeredness. She rarely comes across likable and that is a fact.
your kidding right…please tell us your kidding
Terrible script.
And, even if it were good…what’s the best version, ratings wise, of a Bad Mom show on ABC starring Jenna Elfman? 18-34 won’t watch it. Guys won’t watch it. So basically you’re trying to do a show that best case scenario does almost as well as The Middle if protected by Modern Family.
Bad business, bad creative on this one.
Why does Elfman keep getting work?
It seems like she’s done one failed project after another since Dharma and Greg–which sucked anyways and only lasted like 3 seasons.
I dig her & she’s hot!
It’s official. TV executives loooove annoying women. Why else would Jenna Elfman keep getting work. Why? WHY??
Dharma was only big because of Millionaire and its concept, not its CO-star.
Courting Alex flopped. Accidentally on Purpose flopped. Hell, her Looney Tunes movie flopped. She’ll be alright if she goes back to playing romantic lead (Keeping the Faith) and not kooky woman in her 30s/40s.
If the old “Jump The Shark” website was still around, they’d have to make a new category for Jenna Elfman along with Ted McGinley. They keep giving her sitcoms, that don’t last, because most people just don’t like or relate to her. If it has Jenna, the show is DEAD.
Jenna Elfman is an amazing star. the issues with her last two projects were very simple…..BAD WRITING!
Bad Mom is a great script and a great single camera vehicle for Jenna!
Good move ABC!!!
Um, Ms. Elfman is not a “star”. She’s a TV actress.
Settle thee down Scientologist. Drink your kool-aid and take a sauna cleanse.
Jenna Elfman is extremely talented and funny and will bring a lot to this role. Go ABC!
I’d sooner see Dharma n Greg revived than see Elfman in anything else. No matter what she does, she just seems like Elfman doing Dharma doing somebody else.
So this is a ‘comedy’ about a derelict / negligent mother who foisted her kids onto her mother, their grandmother, but now has to take responsibility for them? Cue hours of zany comedic misunderstanding and generational conflict underscored with growing affection and realization, culminating in a group declaration of love, all concerned having passed the final test that threatened to tear them apart, like ‘dad’ turning up. Just like real life really.
A shame. Stuck in a cult.
Really? She is awful
Have you read the script for BAD MOM? It makes ACCIDENTALLY and COURTING ALEX look like Moliere. This script beyond sucks!
Good news!! She was excellent on a number of episodes of Two and a Half Men. I still remeber the jean skirt she wore in one episode it was ………
Another bomb. I doubt if it lasts the full season.
I love Jenna. I think she is beautiful, funny and has a great personality. Plus, really nice boobs.
True, Accidentally had a horrible premise and the writing was beyond terrible but Jenna was the bigger problem. She was shockingly unfunny and simply not funny. Doubt this one will make it to air.
‘Bad Mom’= bad title. sorry i’m a stickler for great titles. ‘no ordinary family’ still kills me and makes me giggle.
