SATURDAY PM UPDATE: Sources tell me that the studios are having difficulty getting their nightly Rentrak numbers. But initial intel is that this back-and-forth North American box office battle for #1 isn’t over yet and may continue until Sunday night. Sony Pictures’ Just Go With It, starring the sometimes funny Adam Sandler and the always annoying Jennifer Aniston had a big Saturday jump (+41%) from Friday with $13.4M in grosses. If that holds, then this latest Valentines Day-timed rom-com could come in at $31.2M for the weekend. As for Paramount’s PG-rated Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D, “Bieber fever hasn’t broken but at least he’s sweating,” a rival studio exec said tonight. Even with higher 3D ticket prices but about 450 less theaters, the punk kid held strongly from Friday to Saturday with only a -13% drop for $10.7M which would put the kid at $30.2M for the weekend. As for other openers, Disney’s Gnomeo and Juliet 3D opened with a soft $6M Friday but that was doubled Saturday by the matinee kiddie bump for a $25.4M weekend. And Focus Feature’s PG-13 The Eagle had decent numbers in both major cities and suburbs.
Here’s the Top 10:
1. Just Go With It (Sony Pictures) NEW [3,548 Theaters]
Friday $9.7M, Saturday $13.4M, Weekend $31.2M
If the rom-com holds at No. 1, then like him or not, Adam Sandler’s track record as one of the most consistent top performers in the business continues. This latest is based on the old Cactus Flower play/movie (which itself was based on a French play) by Sandler’s Happy Madison production company and directed by Dennis Dugan. But by now who hasn’t seen this dumbass premise of a single man who pretends to be married all over The Hallmark Channel? Yet it received an “A-” CinemaScore overall and an “A” from females despite lousy reviews. Just Go With It, should also be the main Date Night movie choice on Valentine’s Day so expect to see a substantial spike on a typical non-holiday Monday. Last weekend, Adam did a lot of press during the Superbowl as well as MTV Networks (including VH-1, Spike, and Comedy Central) where special interstitials were created with footage from the film. Additionally, there was a TNT and NBA promo tied to the upcoming NBA All-Star Game, while Sony worked with ESPN for a special “Just Go With It Moment” promo which was cut using footage from last year’s Game 7 final match-up, and a clip from the film.
2. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3D (Paramount) NEW [3,105 Theaters]
Friday $12.5M, Saturday $10.7M, Weekend $30.2M
In terms of Disney comps, this is less than the $31M opening weekend of Disney’s 2008 Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert Tour pic but massacres 2009′s Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience opening weekend of $12.5M. Considering Bieber’s pic had a budget of only $13M, the punk did fine. (But if he’s “living his dream” at soon-to-be age 17, then mine is to send him packing from Hollywood until his testicles descend.) Born out of production boss Adam Goodman’s Paramount Insurge initiative overseen by Amy Powell to find talent from the Internet, this is the first offering. Goodman came up with the idea of pursuing a Bieber pic, so he, Powell, Megan Colligan, and Rob Moore traipsed to the Target Center in Minneapolis to watch the kid’s concert first-hand at the end of June. Negotiated with LA Reid of Island Def Jam records and Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, the idea was to follow Bieber’s journey to a sold-out Madison Square Garden. Justin’s Internet army of fans were enlisted to submit photos and videos that would be incorporated into the film and the initial one-sheet. At the end of November, the decision was made to let fans pay $30 to sneak the film complete with souvenir purple glasses and wrist bands. About 60,000 fans saw the film Wednesday so they could spend Thursday and Friday spreading the word at schools. Paramount only included the value of the ticket in its box office reporting, though. The premiere featured a stunt with Ellen DeGeneres (who early on identified Justin as a star) after his Tuesday appearance on her show: Usher showed up with a fleet of vans and brought Ellen’s entire audience of over 300 people to the premiere. The promotion included sister company MTV’s Jersey Shore and The Situation to let teens know this film was not just for tweens. Meanwhile, Bieber’s mom went on Christian Radio to make inroads with faith-based audiences.
3. Gnomeo and Juliet (Disney) NEW [2,994 Theaters]
Friday $6.1M, Saturday $11.5M, Weekend $25.4M
The project was at Miramax and, as part of the recent sale, Disney kept the film which was distributed by Touchstone. Executive Produced by Elton John and his Rocket Pictures, Gnomeo & Juliet is the only animated film in the marketplace right now. The soundtrack released February 8th from Buena Vista Records features 9 songs from the songwriting team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, performed by Sir Elton. (There’s a remake of Elton’s 1973 hit, “Crocodile Rock” sung with Nellie Furtado.) The voice cast included James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton, and Hulk Hogan. Shrek 2‘s Kelly Asbury directed what was billed as “the greatest love story ever told” starring… garden gnomes with plastic pink flamingoes and lawnmower races in the mix.
4. The Roommate (Screen Gems/Sony) Week 2 [2,534 Theaters]
Friday $2.6M, Saturday $3.8M, Weekend $8.5M (-43%), Cume $26.1M
5. Eagle (Focus Features) NEW [2,296 Theaters]
Friday $2.7M, Saturday $3.5M, Weekend $8.5M
Focus will hit projected numbers if the film makes $8 million for the weekend. Tracking best with men both over and under 25 (strongest with men over 25), the film had a budget of mid-$20sM and strong international pre-sales. Reviews were only mixed (35% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, 55% on Metacritic). The film drew a mostly male, ethnically diverse audience: 64% Male, 47% Under 30, 62% Under 35, 38% Caucasian, 27% Hispanic, 21% African American, 13% Asian.
6. The King’s Speech (The Weinstein Co) Week 12 [2,263 Theaters]
Friday $1.8M, Saturday $3.3M, Weekend $7.4M, Cume $93.8M
7. No Strings Attached (Paramount) Week 4 [2,756 Theaters]
Friday $1.6M, Saturday $2.6M, Weekend $5.9M, Cume $60.1M
8. Sanctum 3D (Universal) Week 2 [2,789 Theaters]
Friday $1.4M (-60%), Saturday $2.6M, Weekend $5.4M, Cume $17.8M
9. True Grit (Paramount) Week 8 [2,072 Theater]
Friday $945M, Saturday $1.8M, Weekend $3.7M, Cume $160.3M
10. The Green Hornet (Sony) Week 5 [2,090 Theaters]
Friday $885K, Saturday $1.8M, Weekend $3.7M, Cume $92.4M

CANNES: ‘Jane Got A Gun’ Moving Toward U.S Deal

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
Who is Justin Bieber? Someone please find out where Ozzy Osbourne is, that is a true talent.
I guess you missed the Best Buy commercial with Ozzy and Bieber.
Duh! Get a sense of humor! Obviously Martin has seen the commercial and was making a joke. Why else would he make that random Ozzy reference???
Stop pretending to not know who he is, you obviously saw the Ozzy and Beiber commercial or did you?
,i found Ozzy Osbourne! he is doing the voice of a concrete dear on the third spot this weekend, Gnomeo and Juliet.
LOL OZZY a TALENT!!!! LoL now thats funny.
Clearly you have lost both your undercarriage and your mind, go watch Justin again get ‘the fever factor’and then maybe you will realise true genious when you see it!!
Father thou hast beset me where jewels cannot seat ++++++
Only $30M for a Valentine’s Day flick, AND a Sandler movie that stars Kidman double Oscar Winner/nominee, Sports Illustrated Supermodel Brooklyn Decker, Heidi Montag and Jen ‘ubiquitous’ Aniston? Flop city. Who cares if it beats Bieber? What about the Sony expectation of $35M? BTW, last year’ lame “Valentine’s Day” did a $56M opening weekend. People on DATES will see ANYTHING, and the fact that they didn’t for Sandler is TELLING.
In all honesty this is the best adam sandler movie ever — the funniest script, perhaps because it’s based on cactus flower. But very well done. It did receive a cinemascore of an A. And so many laugh out loud moments that are not your typical sandler humor — anyone who liked the dull grownups will actually see how bad grownups was after seeing this movie. Also, great seeing nicole kidman in a different kind of role.
Two very good movie — this and no strings attached. you won’t be disappointed.
Of course Justin will beat Adam. Justin is a young, talented, motivated artist. Adam is a fat, old, lazy, has-been, whose partner is the luckiest white man in Hollywood. Imagine winning a housing Lottery at NYU and suddenly you find yourself living with the future most overpaid actor on the planet. Now, back to Justin: a young, hip, hard working, piece of talent. And the town will marvel over the numbers. it’s no miracle. Just look at both parties, who they are surrounded by (Justin has Chu; Sandler has Jack. QED).
I hate both Adam Sandler and Justin Bieber and can’t wait for the day when they get out of my television screen.
I kind of agree with this – I don’t HATE either of them, but I’m sick of mediocre tween music and mediocre comedies succeeding just because the same group of people support them. Sadly, when Justin and Adam go, someone else will just take their place.
You do know that you can make them disappear from your TV screen at any time by changing the channel instead of bitching about someone you have the option to watch or not to watch, right?
You do know that you have the option to not comment by not complaining about someone else’s complaint, right?
ahah)) you are both right=)
oh come on dude, the man was just responding to the bitching by the other man.
This is to the “old man” comment. Just wait.
sounds like Chad can’t get his movie made. don’t hate on Sandler and Jack simply because they’ve produced so many highly profitable comedy classics and you haven’t. might I suggest you start buying California State lottery tickets and hope for the best?
if you hate sandler so much why on earth would you go online just to post your distaste for him. i sense jealousy. same to you matthew thomas
This is the biggest strawman I ever heard.
So if you don’t like something, you aren’t supposed to say anything?
Get lost.
That’s what we were told during the Bush years too
Dude you don’t even make sense..Why don’t you joing Chad and Mathews circle jerk =)…Imagine when the media stops covering for Obama what will really come out!!!
Adam Sandler does A WHOLE LOT of work behind the scenes. He writes, produces and runs his own production company. AND IT IS A FACT, he works year round on various productions with very long hours. And yes, I agree, Bieber works too. But don’t be so naive and spout off your hatred of Adam Sandler when you obviously don’t do your research before you speak.
Adam Sandler is fat? by what definition?
If he is fat, what is Kevin James?
HUGE.
Vomit. So she’s NOT going away anytime soon, huh.
“Never,” is unlikely to hold to win the weekend, though…. Very front-loaded…
Expect to see much lower numbers on Saturday and Sunday.
Right, because the kids are in school…oh wait.
I couldn’t believe all the reviews and projections that thought this movie would be lucky to do 17. These were the same people who were shocked when the Hannah Montana 3D did so well. Clearly, no understanding of preteen and teen girls, whatsoever. This was destined to blow up hugely, no matter how good or sucky it might be.
Just Go With It should win the weekend if Beiber is at 12M.
Only if people don’t read the reviews. It’s got awful scores and at 22% fresh…highly doubtful. I think Aniston hurts the usual frat boy audience numbers.
Make that 19% percent fresh for Just Don’t Go With It. Ouchie. Sandler should have hired a no-name.
Make that 18% Rotten on rottentomatoes for Sandler. What a stinkeroooo. By contrast, Justin Bieber’s movie is at 65% fresh.
have you seen the reviews for the Sandler movie? at least this is Justin’s first film. What is Sandler and Anniston’s excuse?
Saw the movie and saw Eagle too.Jennifer Aniston annoys me sometimes but she was really good in this movie.Damnnn Andy Roddick is one lucky guy married to the blonde Brooklyn Decker in this movie =)
Sandler put his 22% rotten (rottentomatoes) in about 1000 more theaters than Biebs…and you’re telling me he STILL might not be able to get to 30 mil?? Whoa. His last movie ‘Grown Ups’ did that and then some, EASY. Let this be a lesson to you Adam, next time hire Modern Families Julie Bowen, or Patricia Heaton, or Ellen Pompeo as the ‘frumpy’ girlfriend/pretend wife, as Aniston doesn’t help your box office, she HURTS it….plus Bowen would have come a LOT cheaper.
Grown Ups was released in an adult comedy starved summer. Plus it had Kevin James, Chris Rock and Salma Hayek which appealed to more diverse groups of people.
Jennifer Aniston might be playing the same role in every movie but you can’t deny she is a box office draw.
Jennifer Aniston might be playing the same role in every movie but you can’t deny she is a box office draw.
Oh I can deny it, primarily because I successfully completed third grade math. Management (’09), in which she was the ONLY star, grossed less than a mil ($934,658) domestically, and less that $1.5 mil foreign ($1,467,085). And there was the usual promo effort, so an “Aniston-only” film that in production PLUS promo costs couldn’t POSSIBLY have come in at less that $28m, earned LESS THAN $2.5mil worldwide.
Love Happens, (’09)where she was again the only “A-List” star, grossed $22,965,110 domestic and $13,120,260 foreign. It was marketed SOLELY to women, her supposed “core audience.” So where were they?
Bounty Hunter (’10), had a Superbowl ad and over 3000 theatres, yet only managed to pull in $20m opening weekend, and those numbers are more attributable to Butler than to her. Plus, add a G. Butler and she’s able to do $69 in foreign. Subtract Butler, and her name ALONE does squat in foreign.
And my favorite flop, the Switch, where she was again the only “big star,” made only $8 mil opening weekend, beaten handily by… *drum roll* … non-actor/rapper Bow Wow ($10.7). BOW WOW is a bigger box office draw than Aniston!. So where is his 24/7 coverage on every blog and tv show that Aniston’s money and Huvane’s PR manipulation can buy?
Aniston is a barely visible blip on the cinematic radar (Management) unless of course you attach her to someone who is actually popular. Her “talent” (like most good leeches) is finding a “host” and attaching herself until she sucks every drop of blood from it, much as she and Huvane have, for the last six years, been attaching her name to Pitt/Jolie at every media opportunity.
Does anyeone NOT know who plants the monthly “Angelina has Meltdown because Brad Still Loves Jen” stories? Is there someone who really thinks Handler and Aniston are “friends,” rather than business partners in a raise-Aniston’s-profile-by-bashing-Jolie enterprise? Do Huvane and Aniston have a “media saturation point” when it comes to shoveling this talent-free, manipulative, stuttering, past-her-prime crone down our collective throats? If so, then I damn sure hope they are approaching it.
are you obsessed or something?
the woman makes profitable movies. otherwise studios wouldn’t keep hiring her. it’s simple demand and supply.
yes she’s untalented. yes she’s annoying. yes she hasn’t made a good movie since office space. all those aside, she is still a wise investment.
“Good Girl” was decent too. But she does appear to have limited range.
Hate to break it to you, but when you pay a star $8 mil for a film (her claimed fee per film), and then the film makes only TWO and a half million (Management’s worldwide gross), that doesn’t exactly qualify her as a “wise investment.” They spent at least $10m on tv, mag, and newspaper ads alone so, how is a $2.5 TOTAL b.o. “profitable?”
From your lips to God’s ears… or anyone who casts her. Worst thing about an Aniston flick is the horrific PR beforehand – from false romances to 3-hankie nomances to the inevitable Angelina take-down. And perfectly good (if not great) male actors continue to star with her (why?!) – Clive, I’m looking at you! (and Bateman, Eckhart, Wilson…)
She’s a perfect co-star for big name male comics to cast, her PR flack, and she, go into hyper overdrive with the publicity, between planting items in the press (Angelina’s Uncool, Is John Mayer Aniston’s NEW MAN!! Brad Who?!!), to dropping trou, to bending over on mexican beaches showing her 45 yr old flat asss, to 1001 cable talk shows, to guesting on her bestie attack dog’s show, to mentioning how tired she is of all the ex/baby/adopting/dating talk, while of course initiating and planting the same items in the press, not to mention her sometimes dual promotions, like releasing her stinkwater perfume at the same time, or filming a bottled water ad…
….in all, for the big name male comic, it just equates to someone who is desperate enough for a hit, doing all the work, while you sit back and relax, and wait for all the cows who want ‘poor jen,’ to finally be happy at last to buy their tickets.
That’s kind of why I don’t see her ever ‘moving on,’ from inferring things about her personal life and implying things re Brangelina.
It’s literally money in the bank, and it generates interest in someone who would have otherwised been in Courtneycox-land, or on Lifetime.
Her next victim will probably be Will Farrell or Steve Carell. Those are the only two left. lol
obviously, sucks to not be the Aniston fan ………… dont think mangelina likes people like you carrying her water much?
Aniston fine, besides her 200m makes her happy cuz loons like you are jealous
bet you like flotus fashions
This board is devoted to INDUSTRY info, so you can save your juvenile gibberish for a teen site that caters to your ilk.
My ACCURATE numbers were a reminder of her repeated box office FAILURES. A barely out-of-his-teens non-actor like Bow Wow who barely got paid a mil was able to put WAY more opening-day asses in seats than a 20-year veteran with $30mil worth of advertising dollars behind her (and he was in FEWER theatres — 1,973 to her 20,12)). People need to be reminded of just how big a failure she is, once you strip away the Huvane-created smoke and mirrors.
Even when she clings to a proven box office king like Sandler, she saps dollars from him. His Valentine’s Day date film with Barrymore, 50 First Dates, opened at $39,852,237. Albatros Aniston dragged him down by nearly $10mil.
They are scrambling now to get another project for her before her next two in-the-cans open. Without a huge male lead, they will see Switch numbers. Guess they’ll be forced to fabricate the production numbers again, as they did after Switch detonated.
Aniston is not a draw at all. The Switch, Love Happens, Derailed etc etc. had bad openings. The only movies of hers that open well are when she has a male box office draw like Adam, Vince, or a cute puppy.
The commercials I saw for this movie focused on Adam and Brooklyn’s body. Aniston was barely featured.
Just like Marley & Me where a puppy was all over the poster & commercial
you forget that those movies that did not do well were independent type movies that did not get a wide release except the bounty hunter.
Love Happens and the Switch went into wide release. They weren’t little indies made for peanuts. They were tests of Aniston’s so-called star power. She’s more of a tabloid star/hanger-on than a star in her own right. But her PR people promote her as A-list and it’s all hype, I feel.
anniston can’t draw overseas. Once the movie is done here, that’s it.
She needs to grow up and stop playing Rachel.
Aniston’s a box office draw? On what planet? The only movies she’s in that do good numbers are when she plays second fiddle to a big name male star. Just look at the only movies she’s ever been in to go over $100MIL – Jim Carrey’s “Bruce Almight,” Vince Vaughn’s “The Break Up” and Owen Wilson’s “Marley & Me,” which was based on book that sold 5 million copies. Aniston’s next biggest film go-starred Ben Stiller. Even if you wanted to consider “The Bounty Hunter” you’d have to think about Gerard Butler’s fans. Butler has got some crazy ass fans out there. These women hold conventions several times a year for God’s sake! Otherwise, Aniston’s headlining movies BOMB at the box office. If she were that great a box office draw she’d be able to get movies greenlighted with just her name attached – and she can’t do that to save her life. If a movie is already greenlit, then Aniston can get hired for it, but frankly the woman has to audition for some roles – see Marley & Me. I don’t know of many actors with box office clout who have to audition. You certainly don’t hear about Angelina Jolie auditioning, now do you? Ouch. Yeah, I went there.
well, technically Jennifer didn’t audition for “Marley & Me” the director asked to meet with her because he wasn’t sure if she could age from late 20s to mid 40s and be believable. But once he met with her, he was convinced she could handle the part. She did not read for him. There’s a difference between meeting with a director and auditioning for a director.
Where the heck did you get that Jen auditioned for Marley????
And it’s always easy to credit Jen’s successful films to her co-stars while blaming her if her films don’t become hits (excepts for Management her films tend to break even NOT flop). Btw Vince Vaughn just had a flop, whose fault was that???? So did Owen Wilson with How do you know. Yeah that says a lot about how big these stars are. Marley and The break up were as much Jen’s films as they were her co stars. She promoted Love Happens and The switch with her co stars and even if she is the biggest name doesn’t mean she got the biggest part and that was obvious from all the trailers. Those movies didn’t become hits because they didn’t have histerical funny trailers and the HUGE promotion that her other wide releases have. And what about The bounty hunter??? Did Gerry sold this one on his own??? The stinker tripled its budget even though it was terrible. Well it had a big promo (albeit not a HUGE as JGWI but still better than “Love” and The switch).
First off 3,500 vs 3,100 theaters is NOT a 1,000 diference and Bieber was also palying in 3D wich has more expensie=ve ticket sales.
Secong Grown ups, like most of Sandler’s films, was released summer time. Summer crowd is much higher than a February release. So if the movie does around 30M which is in line with expectations the movie did very good. Considering that The dilemma flopped big time, even with two bog stars basically means that these numbers are more than fine.
Hmm “Never” played in 3,100 theaters some of which are 3D, that’s NOT a 1000 less than Just go with it.
And Grown ups was playing in the summer crowd like most of Sandler’s films. A 30M on a february is pretty darn good, specially considering that The dilemma with supposely huge stars like Vince and Kevin turned out to be flop.
Happy Gilmore reunion with Adam Sandler and Julie Bowen! That would make me happy (until I realize how bad the movie is, and then that would make me sad).
Um, have you even seen “Just Go With It”? I think it’s so funny when people are like “I saw the Rotten Tomato score from critics, what a horrible movie.”
Honesty, I wasn’t very interested and I check what the audience score is more than the stupid critics. The audience gave it at 78% and I would have to agree. It was really funny and I had a blast watching it!
All things considered, a solid start for all three of the top openers. Although, considering inflation, it appears that Sandler’s audience on opening weekend is still steadily declining in tickets sold…a trend only interrupted by Grown Ups last summer.
I’ll be a tad surprised if The Eagle does more than $6-6.5m for the weekend.
That’s too bad, because The Eagle isn’t bad. Kind of old school action, I enjoyed it.
You couldn’t pay me to see Jennifer Aniston in a movie.
I’m a bit biased because I loved the book, but I think The Eagle was mis-marketed. The Super Bowl spot was a montage that implied grandiose war epic and yesterday’s full page ad in the LA Times o shrieked ROMAN EPIC. Any reviewer or viewer who went in expecting Gladiator redux was going to be bummed.
I hope this flick kicks box office butt in the UK.
I really liked the book as well, but they tweaked the plot to make it play better as a movie. Having a more adversarial relationship between Esca and Marcus adds dramatic tension. They had to cut down the chase sequence, which is the most dramatic in the book, and the end…well, it’s a movie ending but it works.
I saw both films and sorry i wanted to love the Eagle because i like those types of films but The hated Jennifer Aniston movie kept me laughing througout!Eagle got boring and the cinemaphotography was piss poor ,what kind of budget were they on?Later on the move got good but the first half i would say was blehhhhhhh blahhhhhhhh
“cinemaphotography”? Really? Tell me more.
Way to go Jen!!!!!
Somewhere in the world, Mangelina is on suicide watch. And Brad is suffering from buyers remorse.
LOL please, Angelina opened and carried Salt on her own; I highly doubt she’s on “suicide watch” because Jennifer Aniston hitched herself to an Adam Sandler movie; he’s as sure fire as they come. She’s only good for co-starring roles and everyone knows it. Yeah Angelina’s crying bitter tears alright.
Um, excuse me, but why are you happy that Aniston is in a crappy Sandler movie that did WORSE than what a crappy Sandler movie usually does?? That’s funny.
.
Did Aniston claim credit for the Jim Carey box office way back when he was king also?? How about the Ben Stiller flick when he ruled the world? I’m beginning to see her strategy. Big male comedians are her meal ticket to continuiung to annoy us all.
.
Oh, and btw — you do realize that Angelina opened to 36 million by HERSELF this summer in SALT, she doesn’t need huge frat boy comedians to coattail on.
.
Oh, and buyer’s remorse for Aniston? I think I can hear, Brad, Vince, John, John, Cougartown dude, Gerard, Bradley C., Brian, Steve, Adam, Eric, et., al all laughing up lungs at the hilarity of your statement.
.
One question, why do Aniston fans, always attack Brad and Angelina when she gets rightly criticized for her lameness. Why is it necessary to give them a kick in the head, when defending Aniston’s awful (razzie worst actress of 2010) tv sit-com hacktress career?
.
That, in and of itself, shows you how obsessed and stalkerish she and her fans are of the Jolie Pitts. Creepy.
.
She’s had like 100 boyfriends and fckbuddies since her miserable union with Pitt went bust, and YET, she and her fans are still attaching her to them 6 years and 6 kids later. Can’t you sad bitter hens go annoy Vince and HIS new wife and baby instead of Brad and his family?? Change it up Aniston. Your obsession and coattail riding is not unlike your hair – always the same play book. Lash out at Brangelina, even if you have to have your PR power flack Huvane hire pittbull Chelsea Handjob to do it. Meanwhile they don’t know Aniston’s alive. LOLOL
Oh, and buyer’s remorse for Aniston? I think I can hear, Brad, Vince, John, John, Cougartown dude, Gerard, Bradley C., Brian, Steve, Adam, Eric, et., al all laughing up lungs at the hilarity of your statement.
So True
She can’t open a film, period. I wonder when she will stop playing Rachel? At 85?
YOU sound like a child. Do you really think a man pics a woman based on BO.. but just go with you theory.
When Jennifer carries a movie ON HER OWN without a male comedian as the lead.. then come back and start your dancing and celebrating. Every movie she has HEADLINED has been a HUGE FAILURE. that is a fact. So celebrate the Adam Sandler movie success. I don’t think BP is regretting anything. Neither is John Mayer or Vince Vaughn.
GROW UP.
Wow, Kelly, seriously? That’s your contribution to this discussion? You sound like someone with a lot of cats and backfat.
Backfat…see thats something slightly unpredictable you’ve combo’d to the tired cat lady bit, or waiting tables, or script that didnt sell. Backfat made me laugh. Thanks for that.
ah so she’s the typical teapartier eh?
I’m sorry, did I wake up and it’s 2005? I thought Aniston and her fans were over her getting dumped? Maybe go insult Vince Vaughn and his new family, and imply that Vince would rather have Jennifer than his new bride and baby, ESPECIALLY since Jen’s in a crappy Sandler movie? Or maybe try the pop singing douche Jon Mayer – perhaps Aniston can go crawling back to him, screaming, ‘You should have never dumped me for Jessica ‘Sexual Napalm’ Simpson, I’m in a sh*tty Adam Sandler movie guitar boy, so eat your heart out!’ Leave Brad and Angie alone.
John was with Jessica before Jennifer. There was no dumping of Jennifer to be with Jessica.
Yep, Dawn’s right. I’m clear on this because I thought it SO hysterical, yet kind of CRUEL of John Mayer, who had just come off this overhyped fauxmance with Aniston, who had crawled back to him twice after getting publicly dumped and humiliated by him, to THEN, go give an interview to a magazine where he talks about how nuclear hot Jessica Simpson was in bed, and how he still dreams of her. I bet Ms. Aniston was highly peeved. I think what he said about Aniston, was, ‘I’m too young to just want to stay in the kitchen and pet my dog.’ In other words he called Aniston, boring and old. Not nice John Mayer, not nice. But then again, everyone knew he was a douche BUT Aniston. Kind of like everyone knows she acts in sh*tty movies, BUT Aniston. She’s not so bright.
Like Angelina cares. She doesn’t even know who JEN is. Jen is a D-LIST. LOL. Can you imagine all the promotions they had from Superbowl to Oprah with 1000 more theaters against Justin B, and yet they managed to get 30 mil? HAHA! Maniston is a BO poison.
Yet angelina and johnny depp could not open a movie together. You can hate on Jen all you want about attaching herself to big name male actors but she still have appeal. What was the problem with Johnny and Angelina? To of the biggest movie star.
Angelina doesn’t need Johnny when she can open a picture by herself. My take is, Angelina starring with other ‘hot’ leading men, brings the b*tch out of the same cows who hope and pray and chant spells, that Aniston winds up with Gerard Butler. Some women would much rather her be a ‘lone ranger,’ type of woman onscreen. Not the one paired with the nuclear hot guys, since she’s got that in real life. It’s kind of like they think; “Well dang, Jolie has Brad Pitt and all those babies, I am NOT going to go see her suck face with my fantasy lust object Johnny Depp too.” It’s kind of why Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me didn’t do well initially at the b.o., all those Twilight people didn’t want to see ‘Edward,’ get ‘romantic,’ with anyone but Bella. Real life and movie fantasy cross the reality schism in a lot of people’s minds. But I’m curious, why bring up Oscar winner Jolie? Who actually does dramatic, serious fare, and gets nom’d and critically acclaimed for her filmwork, anytime Aniston is in the press for another sucky movie? Just because one European foreign flavored film which had a mystery caper theme that a lot of Americans couldn’t wrap their head around, doesn’t work out – doesn’t mean jack. Not when you know SALT did 36 mil out of the gate, with Jolie ALONE, the same year. When Jen manages to score a hit, as usual by leeching off some big male comic’s name – why not try something different, yet also incredibly insane…go after Winslet, Kidman or Anne Hathaway next time. Leave Angelina out of it.
Brad (thinking thoughts): I know you’re a beautiful, fertile Oscar winning actress who fcks me silly every night and loves me up constantly….but someday Angelina, SOMEDAY, Aniston will stretch her tv sit-com wings and beg for a role in an unusually poorly received Adam Sandler movie that performs worse than his other craptastic fare…and then my dear, then, I will have to leave you and my family and go crawling back to beg Aniston’s forgiveness. Who knew that Adam Sandler was that was needed? I will have to fight off all the other suitors who have returned to Aniston to beg forgiveness as well. There was Aniston BEFORE Sandler, and Aniston AFTER Sandler – she’s opened all our eyes. I especially liked what Roger Ebert had to say:
“The people in this movie are dumber than a box of Tinkertoys.” Lookout girl, here I come.
Why bring Brad and Angelina into this? Move on already.
Even a crappy angelina jolie movie rapes Jen Annie. Look at The Tourist: made back a 100 million without DVD sales and TV rights sold. Not to shabby considering she probably ruined that poor German director’s notability with that bland piece of garbage. He directed THE LIVES OF OTHERS for god’s sakke :’(
I saw the Sandler/Aniston comedy and boy was it a disappointment. The sum of it’s parts were so much greater than the whole. The problem is the premise is just not enough to build a whole wacky world around. Just like The Dilemma the “problem” wasn’t viable enough to have the main characters go through all the crazy machinations! I just kept saying, just tell the truth, it isn’t that big of a deal! Jennifer Aniston was adorable though.
My mother saw it when she took her grandkids to Bieber tonight. She said it was awful, sexist crap, the acting was terrible and that Jen Aniston has a whole new face, but she wasn’t any more attractive despite the filler face and new nose, and why wasn’t anyone saying anything.
New nose? What are you babbling about? She got a nose job BEFORE she was even on “Friends”.
She’s had three nose jobs–total. Keep up.
Um, you need to keep up on your boring Aniston facts 101. She admitted to what she claims was a second nose job (although most people think she’s on #3 or #4) in 2007, when her surgeon, unbeknownst to her, gave an interview to People magazine and implied he had worked on her. She claimed it was for a ‘deviated septum,’ (like that one episode of Friends) and said she was now sleeping like a baby after many years of open mouthed snoring torment. Poor Brad…on so many levels.
she’s had SEVERAL nose jobs….and she also has had botox, by her admission & probably other stuff from her new look
Spot on. Just watched the trailer, I can barely recognize her. There’s little bit of all Rachel going on around the eyes but most of her facial expressions are totally altered by the fillers.
Why does every but sandler need a premise to make a movie? His shtick is so tired. But the worst part of this film [which i got a screener for, i wouldn't pay to see this] was nick swardson. he is the least funny of all the sandler hangers on, by far!
Word is, he just let Swardson improv for many of his scenes. They would just let him go off and hope he eventually mined gold. After all, with “only” an $80mil budget, why bother paying writers to actuallY WRITE a funny script. By the way, I would LOVE to know where $80 mil gets spent on a non-action, non-special effects, non-CGI, non-funny film. Someone please explain.
Keeping Nicole Kidman happy for the duration of her 2-day Hawaiian set visit?
42 posts and no Alan Loeb bashing?
You’re slipping DHD.
To Kelly, Way to go Jen!!!!!
Somewhere in the world, Mangelina is on suicide watch. And Brad is suffering from buyers remorse.

Lol, you are laughable!Just go with it is not Aniston’s movie, Its Adam SAndler’s movie, didnt you read what NK wrote???
The fact that its underperforming could be blamed to Aniston who has promoted the movie so heavily appearing in all shows in America as if the movie is her own! She is so desperate for a hit so that she can compensate for her previous 3 flops in a row. She wants to take credit for it!
But it seems that Aniston’s heavy promo has hurt the movie, i bet you it turned off a lot of Sandler’s frat boy fans.
“Hurt the movie”?
It’s number one.
Only if #2 is the new #1.
I agree completely. I don’t think Aniston hurt the movie, but I don’t think it helps to have her in his movies. His target is frat boys and she’s more of a lame romantic-comedy trash queen.
I love all those women but Aniston is why I went to see the movie.
Worth Noting:
Justins per-cinema-average is lower than both Miley and Jonas I believe. Those films were released back in 2009 when less cinemas were 3D equipped.
Ummmm….theaters charged about $15/ticket for the Miley and Jonas films. They booked Miley as a week only “event” and it packed theatres. They tried the same strategy with Jonas and the movie crashed and burned after one week.
First weekend numbers for those 2 films are not relevant.
Miley’s tickets were $15. But I just had to pay $12 for a NSN 3D ticket, which is close.
Also, you are not the boss of relevance.
True, those other movies did better, but Beiber doesn’t have the Disney machine pushing his movie the way Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers did. He’s a pop star of his own making, not because Disney gave him a tv show and loaded up tweens on years of sugary tv hoakum before bleeding their parents dry with an unnecessary 3-D movie.
VERY good point, Stacy. I forgot about the absence of the Disney machine for the Biebz. Important factor in calculating overall success.
Bieber is hardly self-made. He’s just as pimped as Jonas as Miley were, only by different people.
How are you comparing Bieber’s ‘pimps’ as you call them to effing DISNEY which ‘pimped,’ Miley and the Jonas bros?
I am not surprised at the Bieber movie doing so well Friday; never underestimate the obsessions of tween girls and the hold they have on their parents’ money. Good on The King’s Speech for being so far up there!
Helen get over it!
This is Adam Sandlers movie and it was gonna open good with or without her.She is yet to prove her self on her own without a male costar,so celebrate but u know she still cannot open a movie on her own.
oops I meant kelly
Stop being childish why would anyone be on suicide watch she opened Salt all by herself and it made more in the first weekend than these two stars combined will make on theirs.Brad is perfectly happy and fine and I know that hurts you,I hope you come back and celebrate the same way when she gets a flop because sooner or later we know she is gonna get one because she cannot open a movie.
I smell a sequel for Bieber.
Let me guess: “Never Say Never Again”?
Oh wait, that title has already been used.
Wow, what a shit lineup. No wonder I haven’t gone to the movies in over two months!
to cover the years from 16 – 18 years old of the biebz
AIm for? hm sounds like a threat i’ll have to do my duty and report you to the Secret Service as all of Obamas zombies do anytime they can try and make anything said on the internet sound like a threat!!They report people to the Secret Service whom Obama sends out to harrass the people…I think the Bushes stil have secret service people so I wil do my duty and report you. Also you sound like a child molester too with your comment!! Good luck with the anal cavity search!
WHEW NIKKI !!! You are in form tonight! hahaha … just wearing everybody out. It truly did put a smile on my face.
A question for experts (that doesn’t include non-industry Sandler-hating trolls BTW): do Adam Sandler movies make any profit before DVD & TV sales? They’re very expensive for effects-free comedies and tend to do so-so business outside of North America. I read that The Other Guys lost money because it cost $110M & only made about a third of that amount overseas and that’s not too different to a typical Sandler movie.
His appeal outside the US varies quite a bit if you look at the percentage split between the US part of the whole gross and the International.
Grown Ups did better than many others of his did and Just Go With It may as well. But his movies do seem to cost a surprising amount sometimes – though when there’s no script writer involved at least that saves a couple of bucks.
As to The Other Guys, yeah I would call it a total flop because it cost $100 million and I think it’s only sitting on about $170 million worldwide just now, so the fact it crossed $100 million in the US meant nothing for it’s overall picture. That’s a performance no better than The A-Team.
The only difference being The A-Team was actually watchable.
Says you.
Yep, and if you disagree with that fine. It doesn’t change my opinion of them.
Yeah! Another movie where Adam Sandler drools over a much younger girl.
One critic made an excellent comment that destroyed Sandler’s whole premise for this horrible movie (that he’s a plastic surgeon who needs to lie and say he’s married to have sex with much younger women): ‘Since when did, ‘Hello, I’m a plastic surgeon,’ NOT work on bar skanks? He’d get laid for the free boob and nose jobs if nothing else, let alone the moulah.
Hope the Never say Never ll be on Dubai Cinma I Would bring all my Friends
I Love U Bieber
This is proof that there is a MASSIVE machine behind Bieber. This poster is from DUBAI!!!
Are the Jonas brothers not as popular as Justin B and Miley? I remember their concert movie bombed in comparison. Its funny to see what hits and doesn’t in the kid world. They all get pushed the same so what’s the deal?
Jennifer Aniston ignites so much debate its insane. Everyone who is trashing the person that made her retarded comment about Angelina.. your all still waaaayyy to passionate about this subject yourselves people. Who cares about these people’s personal B.S. They are all successful and its a rare situation where all three of them took their careers to the next level after that divorce/cheating scandal. No Russell Crowe/Meg Ryan situation. They should ALL be applauded. I didn’t think i was on a blog for US Weekly but it feels like it whenever Jennifer Aniston gets brought up.
The truth of the matter is Jennifer is a box office draw when she picks the right types of films for herself to succeed in. She works well in ensembles and or with a strong leading man. Yes you can argue thats not as great of a success as headlining films on your own, buts its still a success none the less. She has had a lot of success with the following people – Adam, Jim C, Ben Stiller, Gerald B, the ensemble of He’s not into you, Owen W and the dog, Vince Vaughn… that’s too many hits to not give this woman SOME credit. No she’s not untouchable but she did play a part in these movies being hits and its inane to think otherwise.
No she is not as bankable as Angelina Jolie (who does completely different movies anyway). I’m sure nothing I’m saying will stop these stupid arguments but from where I am sitting she is a nice draw with the right ingredients mixed in. She’s now 7 hits/6 bombs since 2003 when her film career really took off. And two of those six movies weren’t wide releases so some could argue its 7 hits/4 bombs. Derailed and The Switch weren’t marketed well, and Rumor Has it and Love Happens looked like awful movies from the get go. In 2002 she had The Good Girl which she got great reviews for. She’s interesting to watch, box office wise. Her next two films (Horrible Bosses and Wanderlust) will probably go in the win column as well, but its too soon to say for sure.
Oh look, Jen’s friends are here, pretending to be objective observers. Why criticize Aniston’s insane haters and engage them in conversation? It makes about as much sense comparing Aniston to Jolie, as comparing Aniston to Kidman, or Aniston to Rachel Weisz, or Aniston to Natalie Portman. You must have not played the ‘Which thing does not belong,’ segment on Sesame Street. STOP comparing Aniston to Oscar winners. Just STOP. It would make as much sense comparing Courtney Cox to Melissa Leo. Compare Aniston to Sarah jessica parker, or J.Lo when she acts (although Aniston has no ‘Out of Sight,’ or ‘Selena,’ to compare w/ either) – but at least it’s the same kind of silly rom com chuckle-chuckle genre acting.
yeah bastobabe i doubt you are a babe ,well maybe babe the pig or a cow that needs to chew some more cud.what a skank!
Never been a fan of Anistons but I hoped she could diversify a little and make something I found interesting but she seems to have got stuck in the Meg Ryan prison… No one wanted to see Meg do anything else than the same over and over. A bit like stallone where copland almost ruined his career becouse most people just wanted him to do the same as usual. A bit sad because even sandler made Punch drunk love and Robin Williams managed to do things that got high praise. I would have loved to see Aniston try something very different and edgy. Something like monster, monsters ball or boys don`t cry
Dear loser, get real. Who wants to see Aniston in ‘Monster?’ Hahaha. How about Kudrow or Cox in a ‘Monster’
type movie? It would make more sense at this point than Aniston. Can you explain why a person who has demonstrated time and time again (over what? a 15 year period?) onscreen and in interviews that she has no charisma, and acts with her hair – should get a ‘Boys Don’t Cry,’ type movie at 45? Do you even hear yourself? How about switch it up – maybe instead of saying, ‘I wish Aniston would pick better material (to desecrate) – maybe ask why her co-stars, all more talented than her in my opinion, don’t get the same opportunities. Kudrow is pretty brilliant literally, whether it was The Comeback, or that new show (that meryl Streep just guest starred on) – and yet no one whiiiiines, that, ‘Oh, I wish Lisa could be given even a smidgeon of the opportunities Aniston’s been given over two decades.’ Aniston is a wash. The sad part is, even if she was good, for Aniston, that IMO, still wouldn’t be good enough. Capiche?
