UPDATE:
The long delayed movie The Beaver starring Mel Gibson and directed by Jodie Foster is delayed again — this time from March 23rd (limited release) to May 6th (limited). Summit Entertainment thought this was a better date for the limited release because of the better cast availability: I hear Jodie by then will be back from shooting a picture in Europe. Also, the studio wanted time to let audiences know of what’s expected to be positive critical response following the SXSW Film Festival where it will be shown on March 16th. A wide release is planned to start May 20th. The movie in which Gibson plays a father who walks around talking to a beaver hand puppet, represents Mel’s acting comeback following his many tabloid scandals.

Ward, what’s wrong with the Beaver?
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
The movie sounds awful, Mel Gibson is awful, he needs to go away, Jodie Foster should know better, and the entire project should just go straight to dvd and be sold in convenience stores next to the Kit Kat bars for 99 cents a copy. Mel Gibson, you are over.
This is a very ignorant post. The screenplay is awesome and the movie’s in more than capable hands with Jodie Foster. Mel Gibson may be not be a great person, but he is not an awful actor. Your argument against this movie is unfounded.
I agree. People should boycott ‘The Beaver’ and Gibson’s career. Racism should not be rewarded, not now. How many second chances can one disgusting, hateful bigot get? ‘The Beaver’ should go straight to DVD/VOD. The fact that Summit are rolling it out is a misjudgement, in my opinion.
Racist comments made during the heat of an argument are not enough to judge the man’s entire life as being like. You apparently only pay attention to those who agree with you and not to the whole crowd.
I am definitely not a fan of Mel Gibson, but I saw the previews and I cannot wait to see the movie. I don’t see a
lot of movies, but this is one that I will make a point to go to.
bring on mel gibson! i miss you! and you too jody! ;- ) great combination of talent. looking forward to the results.
cool beans.
T
So agree, come back Mel and Jodie.
This makes sense although I am personally disappointed as I have really been looking forward to seeing this movie!! I think it looks to be awesome. I am also anticipating seeing Jodie and Mel act together again. They have great on screen chemistry!
OnDemand/straight to video, anyone? Couldn’t happen to a nicer anti-semite.
In late April, watch for yet another delay for this bomb, then it will go straight to DVD.
Says Garry: In late April, watch for yet another delay for this bomb, then it will go straight to DVD.
You Garry are quite simply an idiot.
Sorry god, but you don’t exist.
So go back to Drudge, Pajamas, or LGF & spread your absurd worship there of this clown with feet, not of clay, but shit.
It will have trouble outgrossing “Zyzzyx Road” in the theaters.
Would someone please put The Beaver in the rose garden next to Mel Gibson’s career?
They really need to release this stinker on Straight to DVD. This Beaver will bomb. I understand Summit Entertainment. I mean how could they promote it? You know you need main cast like Foster and Gibson to do the interviews and premiere carpets. How on earth Gibson would do an interview? Or show up at the premiere? He thought that if he will lay really really low then in a few months it will all go away and he will live like nothing ever happened. And it didn’t happen. In public eyes he is the same monster he was 9 months ago.
And can you imagine how Jodie Foster or poor Anton Yelchin or Jennifer Lawrence would sit there in the interviews and praise Mel Gibson and say how good he was in this movie and how good and nice person he is? I don’t doubt about Jodie. She is Satan’s advocate after all
But poor Jennifer and Anton would be ashamed to do this.
I actually wonder why no one asked Jennifer Lawrence about this movie she shoot with Gibson before her breakthrough role in Winter’s Bone. And I think that they were as shocked as everyone else when those tapes were released. No one ever saw that real monster behind Mel’s smile. As all abusive monsters he was normal on public. And only the people who live with him could see the real one.
How is Jodie Foster “Satan’s advocate?” Mel Gibson’s hatreds and prejudices do not make him Satan, just a nasty human being. Many people have said and done much worse. Foster has her reasons for supporting him, none of which you nor I know. Spare us with the hyperbole.
There is no “comeback” for Mel Gibson. This isn’t like he was in an auto accident, or is battling alcohol or other addictions. The man has some serious baggage. This isn’t something that can be cured by a movie with Jody Foster and a hand puppet. The Beaver” will be lucky to last more than a week in theaters before being dumped on to DVD. Gibson needs to lay low for a few years and to reach out to the Hollywood community and earn our respect. It sounds like he’s still in denial.
I saw a screening of this film many months ago and thought I would not like the film but I did. The premise sounds odd but it works and Mel and Jodie work well together. Not withstanding his own personal (public) foibles, it is not a bad flick.
This movie will undoubtedly do big business and all of Hollywood will gasp for a nanosecond before rushing to quietly attach him to their next film. Beseeching, “You know Mel, I always had your back…”
The liberal sentiments of Hollywood stop at payroll.
From the trailer it’s a darker, bleaker execution than I expected, admittedly, but it was a brilliant script, which is more than can be said for countless other theatrical releases which gross well. So Garry, we’ll see you back here when it doesn’t bomb.
Did Mel say and do some terrible things? Yes. Do the general moviegoing, ticketbuying public give enough of a shit to proactively boycott his work? No.
We may all have been too quick to judge Gibson. Turns out the girlfriend’s bodyguard is saying she set Gibson up and heavily edited the tapes, and that he never hit her.
And I thought Mrs. Clever was worried about her Beaver.
plot sounds absurd … where did they get the idea? oh, I know, from a few scenes in What About Bob? when Richard Dreyfus’ character insists on talking to his daughter via puppets! LOL I have been a huge Gibson fan for years and love Jodi since Taxi Driver but this is a film I won’t support. A] plot is just too d.u.m.m.b. and B] I can’t support Mel and his recent actions. First horrendous alcohol induced violent rages peppered with anti-Semite insults and secondly his non-alcohol rants filled with violence and woman-bashing. No matter what the reasons behind his actions, they are far too much for me to just ignore to support him anymore until he gets serious counseling. Having been the wife of a violent man, I know that it’s not something you just look past because he maybe handsome or talented. Mel, get help and then I’ll consider supporting you again.
