Mike O’Malley, who is recurring on Fox/20th TV’s Glee, is adding a potential regular series gig to his plate, also for Fox and 20th TV. O’Malley is set to play the lead in the single-camera comedy pilot Family Album, written by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and directed by Shawn Levy. It centers on Dave (O’Malley), a passionate, overly enthusiastic former jock who, after a breakthrough experience on a family vacation returns home with a renewed conviction to “bond the crap out of his family.”
O’Malley had a choice of a comedy and drama series gig this pilot season with offers for Family Album and NBC’s drama Grimm, ultimately going with the half-hour project. The deal for Family Album calls for O’Malley to continue his recurring role as Kurt’s sensitive single dad Burt Hummel on Glee, which earned him a guest starring Emmy nomination. Additionally, O’Malley, repped by CAA and Principato Young, wrote this past weekend’s episode of the Showtime drama Shameless and the indie feature Certainty, now in post-production. On the big screen, he currently co-stars in Fox Searchlight’s Cedar Rapids.

Please make him take his stupid hat off.
Spot on, bitterboy. I don’t watch Glee so I don’t know if he wore it there; but it’s always on during the endless Time-Warner commercials. Mike, you’re bald – everybody knows it.
Yes, he’s always got it on during “Glee”.
In an episode,Burt,Kurt and The Hudsons were eating/drinking in Breadstix. He didn’t wear a hat there.
brilliant in everything he does even makes commercials watchable
I know! He’s taking the “blue collar” role everywhere – even in commercials!
Will he send out another “manifesto” for this series?
Wait, no picture of Shawn Levy on set and behind a camera with this article? No mention of every thing Shawn Levy has done? Whoever reps O’Mailey…..you are going to have one pissed Shawn Levy to deal with!
i still remember him best as the host of guts. i’m thrilled he has a successful career in hollywood.
It’s good to hear reports like this:)
I think we aall knew he wouldn’t be continuing on with Glee next season. Good for him for nabbing a new gig.
Now if only Jessalyn Gilsig would find something as well!!!
Yeah he’s hardly ever on “Glee” anymore. Sad waste.
It isn’t surprising that he’d pick the Fox project, simply because he’s actually credited as a series regular on Glee – Fox owns him. I doubt Fox would be so cool allowing him to moonlight if it were for another network, even if Glee barely uses him.
What an interesting and successful and surprising career he’s had. ‘YES DEAR’ was a silly, conventional, but downright funny sitcom, and after it ended I never expected him to be given the chances he’s had, and be so great in everything he’s done. Kudos.
It’s about time people recognizing O’Malley’s the real deal. Awesome! Just awesome!
One of the hardest working, smartest, nicest actors out there. I’ve worked with him a bunch of times and can’t wait to work with him again. Great to see when good things keep happening to good people. Kick ass Mike.
Very nice fella. But that hat thing makes him pretty unwatchable. I would stand up and clap if he took it off.
Not only is Mike an an excellent actor. He’s an even better father, husband and friend who gives any extra time he has leftover to charity. A truly great person. Go Mike!
Loved him on Nickelodeon GUTS.
I can see it now: his character will wear a plaid shirt untucked, he will have a fat friend, a “kind of hot” wife, a smart-ass son or daughter, a mother who lives with him or next door and of course he will have beard stubble.
Go Sox! Go Fox! Great guy. Excellent actor. Fun script. Hope it all comes together.
this guy is stilllll around? i think he’s been in every comedy pilot ever cast. mike, for the love of god, please give other people a chance. let me guess, this show won’t be picked up or if it is will last 6 episodes. common denominator is you pal.
i’m not a hater, i’m just bored by you.
Sounds like you are a hater. This guy wants to be more visible, so yeah, he’s auditioning for anything and everything. Life is what you make of it.
Is it possible this new series may not get picked up? Or cancelled? Sure, same odds as any other series/pilot. But the more you put yourself out there, the greater the odds of hitting one out of the ballpark.
MF’n GET THE PICTURE !!!!
Dude’s got some guts to take on this project.
Me and my wife and kids met mike during filming of family album. He was kind enough to take a picture with my family. thanks mike, your truely a kind person . god bless. Meeting mike topped are vacation.
