EXCLUSIVE: Things are not looking good for midseason drama The Cape. NBC just cut the order to the comic book-inspired series from 13 to 10. That means stop of production for the show, which is now wrapping Episode 10. After an OK start on Sunday earlier this month, The Cape has been sliding in its regular Monday 9 PM slot. Last night, the show drew a 1.5/4, down 6% for a series low. It is not clear if the shortened order will affect the return of The Event to the Monday 9 PM berth, currently scheduled for Feb. 28. One possible scenario floated around has The Cape finishing its 10-episode run on Feb. 28, with The Event relaunching with 2 back-to-back episodes (instead of a recap and an original) the following Monday, March 7.

I agree
I am on the border line with The Cape to be honest. I saw some episodes that where great and some that sucked but it was a series that needed time to grow and it is not getting that from NBC. I enjoyed it but it was very much like Dark Angel but with a male in the lead. I guess the curtain is about to fall on this show and everyone has to step stage left.
Maybe, it will get saved like Friday Night Lights, Southland etc.
Why so angry, network tv is free. Just change the channel if you don’t care for the show.
I’ve never seen the show and know it has to be a load of crap. The trailer were ridiculous and the. The premise lame and BORING. How does this junk get green lit anyways! JEEZE!
Your post makes you sound like the quintessential American idiot.
Just… read your post you fucking moron, don’t you realize how fucking bad you make yourself look for being a dummy?
Cape should have been a mini series, or be allowed a full season. It has a good set up, originality, and good filmography, but lacks the interesting or comedic writing and dialogue necessary for a show to gather any sort of audience.
I’m a fan of the show, but, I can’t say I’m surprised. Just hope Summer gets another chance elsewhere.
Another sign that the major networks aren’t willing to invest in shows and give them a chance to make money. While its certainly no Emmy winner, the show has been fun to watch. The first season of Smallville was a horrendously bad Buffy clone, but WB (Now CW) gave it time to grow and the Smallville became one of the best genre shows on the air. I think this is simply a matter of NBC having bean-counter style executives who can’t see past yesterday’s bottom line. It certainly doesn’t bode well for the Wonder Woman pilot they picked up.
Other than lame writing and dialogue it was too much to process for me. First and second episode of The Cape had so much going on screen that it put 24 to shame. I just couldn’t follow and didn’t understand a thing… Too much AMC.
Brilliant.
Shows as thoughtless, unoriginal, and poorly executed as this give the sci-fi\fantasy genre a bad name. At least thoughtless pap like The Metalist et al, are well-made if unoriginal and deretive, this show wasn’t even that.
As bad as Heroes got, there was always the occasional glimmer in it. But NOBODY, cast, writers, or directors come out of this show with a single gram of credit.
Get this off and some decent sci-fi on TV.
The Cape had one of the strongest casts ever assembled you fucking blithering idiot.
Elia- You’ve got some issues girl. You’ve posted the same “white”, “dude” rant twice now. Take a closer look at those first, then critique others – even if they are “white dudes”.
How has outsourced survived longer than this show? Who is running that network? I’m glad it failed.
It’s very hard to make these kinds of shows work unless the writing, acting and production values are exceptional. (Fox’s Fringe has got these, and it’s still struggling.) Television audiences generally prefer filler.
Aww, man, I love The Cape, precisely because of how mind-bogglingly terrible it is. It is the best worst show.
I predict that The Cape’s 9th and 10th episodes will be ineffably brilliant, and everyone will realize what a mistake they made hating it — only after the show has already been canceled, of course.
Actually, it’s probably going to continue to suck and, at best, become mediocre. The supporting cast (Martin Klebba, Keith David, Summer Glau and James Frain) are easily the best part of the show, but even their performances seem sub-par. Having seen some of these actors in other roles, I’m guessing that it’s either the direction or the writing that makes this show bad. It’s a shame that it will probably get canceled so soon; I think that, with time and space to grow, The Cape could be an excellent show. It isn’t great now, but given the strength of its premise, it certainly has potential.
I like this show. the openign sequence is great, the cast is great, the “bad guys” circus is a fun angle, and it is developing. Also it is a perfect lead-in to hawaii 5-0. Can’t we just have some fun entertainment. I can watch PBS for high-brow stuff but some nights i just want to relax and let my mind drift.
I enjoy watching The Cape. It is the only show I watch on NBC. It is sad that NBC will cancel it. Hope Summer and the rest of the great cast find other projects that hopefully are long-playing. Maybe another channel will pick The Cape up like SyFy or HBO.
They just need better writing and well conceived story lines. One minute The Cape and the villains are going at it in spectacular fashion and the next minute, they are so knocked out, caught, vulnerable. It is has no suspense and it does not stretch the imagination, whatsoever…just have one good script (meaning different writers) to finalize the show.
Somebody bring back the Middleman, that’s a far better use of the money. Or KyleXY, or Legend of the Seeker. As a matter of fact, the next time they come up with a concept like The Cape, just take the funds and put it into one of the above. Skip the hiring, firing, sets, crews and ratings death watch. You’re going to get low ratings and a cancellation each year for some show anyway, just keep a good show going instead. :p
Seriously I think the intelligent camp humour is lost on most americans.
considering the crap that’s on TV now a bit of comic book weirdness is most welcome.
Look at that god awful crap that was stargate universe, or the event, or how down hill lie to me has gone.
Flash forward was so un-appealing comics lampooned it.
People seem to be getting squarer and squarer by the day
do you want beige non-descript uniform with your big fat fries sir ?
Despite the overwhelming negative comments about The Cape here, I think it’s a pretty good show. Not top of the class, but it keeps me interested. I wish they’d explore a love triangle between the 2 women leads and The Cape but I chalk that up to Network TV being too chicken to do anything that might be controversial. God forbid a married super hero have romantic feelings for the gorgeous, mysterious woman he spends 90% of his time with. I feel bad for the actress who plays the wife, she was on that Life on Mars show, now the Cape, both shows that should have been picked up but probably won’t be.
As for The Event, I like it and I hate it. The girlfriend is the worst actress working today, just outright dreadful. The alien thing bugged me at first but the plot was compelling enough for me to over look it. But there’s just something about the characters that leaves me cold. I can’t really get connected to any of them, except maybe John Ritter’s son, and that’s a problem for any show. Plus the writing is spotty at best.
The whole reason I started watching this show is for the same reason I started watching TSCC (really awesome and unfairly cut show btw) was because of Summer Glau. I am wondering why they have not given her more scenes??? I know for me that is why I tune in every Monday night!

I just hope the networks realize Summer Glau is who people want to see and they bring her back in a leading role. Whatever it is I’ll be there to watch and lend my support!
Funny how all the naysayers here can’t seem to qualify their arguments. It’s easy to say that the show is horrible or that the writing sucks. What makes your opinion count is whether you can explain your stance. In my opinion, The Cape is everything I expect out of a superhero story. If the premise is so unoriginal, please feel free to list the slew of TV shows where an evil private corporation, whose CEO has framed the protagonist, assumes control of the police, forcing him to go underground in order to prove his innocence. And in terms of dialog, what’s your benchmark for comparison? True Blood? Madmen? Of course there are shows of higher written caliber out there, but if you’re measuring every new show against those, you’ll constantly be disappointed. How about comparing this new superhero show to ABC’s new superhero show, No Ordinary Family? THERE’S a true disgrace to the screen. When the writing is horribly contrived, it’s completely illogical. For example, when J.J. wants to play football and the parents tell him he shouldn’t have to use his powers to feel good about himself. Meanwhile, dad says over and over that fighting crime makes him feel like he’s making a difference. Given that he’s so horribly p-whipped and overshadowed by his wife’s success, it seems a little hypocritical.
Bottom line: if you’re going to comment, prove you’re not a mindless hater and back up your statements!
I am someone who enjoys scifi and fantasy. I stuck with V, Legend of the Seeker, Merlin, Doctor Who, BSG, Caprica, Eureka, Warehouse 13… heck, I even watch Smallville, and I know it’s a turd.
With that said, when watching the first two episodes of The Cape, I felt insulted and kept looking at the clock to see how much time was left before it was ending.
Maybe it got better? I don’t know. But I do know that its first impression was a poor one with me, and I didn’t want to give it another shot.
Coming from someone who will watch Transformer and GI Joe cartoons for fun, that should say volumes.
well the first two episodes were OK. but after that it got really cheesy, i love the idea of the cape that’s fantastic although the hood could be bigger it looks way to tight. and for the rest of the costume it sucks his armor looks like something out of roman times. he looks like he’s going trick or treating or something. as far as the story it started good but the acting is just not good at all. the guy playing the cape is just plain bad his punch lines are terrible. a good idea gone to waste!!
