EXCLUSIVE: Die Hard 5 is moving toward the start gate at 20th Century Fox. I’m told the studio will set Noam Murro to direct the film that has been scripted by Skip Woods. They will continue to develop the script. While Murro directed the Sarah Jessica Parker-starrer Smart People for Miramax. Murro really impressed Fox brass with his most recent campaign for the Halo video game. He’s a five time DGA nominated commercials director, won two Golden Lions at Cannes and is taking a big leap up to one of Fox’s most important projects. The studio still has to make a deal with Bruce Willis, but he has publicly expressed excitement about reprising his signature John McClane role. Willis showed he had plenty left in the tank with Live Free Or Die Hard, the Len Wiseman-directed 2007 sequel that grossed $383.5 million worldwide.
As Deadline first revealed on November 11, Willis and Rebecca Hall will team on Lay the Favorite, the Stephen Frears-directed adaptation of the Beth Raymer memoir that was adapted by DV De Vincentis. Murro is repped by CAA and Management 360.

Can Hollywood please let certain franchises die instead of churning out poorly made movies with a few explosions just to make some extra $$.
The mainstream movie industry is unfortunately run by economic concerns rather than the ambition to make quality products. Sad face.
at least joe carna-ham-n-cheese aint directing….that’s one positive….but then again….FOX makes maybe one decent movie per year.
“Hollywood” no longer makes movies – it makes money. New priorities since back in the day when Eisner took over Disney and showed the other studios how to do it – with little regard for quality entertainment, history or respect to what came before. “All we have to do is make the audience believe that what we’re feeding them is what they want. We just have to tell them what they want first!”
Sure, some “Independent” companies can get some good movies made, but profit is the main motivator for the big guys – not excellence. Bruce is about to make that a QFT. And why not? The newest Die Hard installment will undoubtedly make a fortune. (See: Indiana Jones 4; Lethal Weapon 4; Twilight, uh, 5?; Transformers 3; Star Wars 19;… all craaaaaaaaaap.)
And nobody will give a shit if it’s a good movie or a bad one. The general public has no idea or good taste – they only know what they’ve been told to like. (Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Just Go With It, and Justin Beiber.)
Let me guess…another watered-down John McClane PG-13 romp with hardly any blood, no power-cursing, and a bad guy that’s hardly scary or intimidating?
They should bring back Sam Jackson in some shape or form, because Die Hard with a Vengeance was the last time I was excited about a Die Hard movie.
maybe the studio can bring back the original producers who made these movies great as the most recent die hard was dead on arrival
Woo Hoo….let’s blow up some stuff and have some great chase scenes!
Hey I sure hope they actually make a Die Hard movie this time. I have no idea what that last movie was about but it sure WASN’T a Die Hard movie.
Yapee kuy a mother fuc*er
I wonder if Kevin Smith will be reprising his role as Warlock….
*cough*
Fox-
This better be rated R. This better be rated R.
i totaly agree about rated r
They should reboot it. I don’t think I could bear watching Bruce Willis dragging his saggy old ass around a building/city/airport again.
First a building.
Then an airport.
Then an entire city.
Then the entire Eastern Seaboard.
How much bigger can this thing get? PLEASE get back to your routes. Less is more.
routes?
I suck. Thanks for pointing it out.
(You could have at least agreed with my point.)
Sheesh.
This is beneath Noam and he’s not an action guy. He needs to develop his own script or hold out for something better.
It was not ‘watered down’! The MPAA let’s you now have R-Rated violence in a PG-13 movie as long as there is hardly to no other objectionable content!
They need to bring back Ellis from the first one. John Boy!
Did anyone see SMART PEOPLE>? Brutal. He won a gold lion at Cannes commercials?….Does anyone in that business not? So he likes and can sell burgers but how does that make him a good call to squeeze the last drops out of this franchise? Bad movies come from people who make decisions like this. good luck…
are you kidding me? live free or die hard was HORRIBLE. it was like they cut and pasted the scripts from a dozen b-action movies. and don’t get me started on all the bad acting.
i agree with brandon–please just let this franchise die. american audiences deserve better.
Why do they keep hiring commercial directors to tell 2 hour stories? Guess they didn’t learn anything from Tron…
I guess Bruce Willis goes where the money is…
This is sad crap… It would be nice to see Bono Vox do a Die Hard movie! He can save the children who Michael Jackson did things to!
Die Hard at Neverland! Or Bono can be Bono07 Bond! He can star in a movie with Oliva Munn, or Bruce “Bruno” Willisness will!
People love Oliva Munn, Oliva Wilde and Bristol Palin! But they would rather pay nothing to see Bristol dance!
The original Die Hard is my 2nd fav movie of all time.
Live Free Or Die Hard wasn’t even a Die Hard movie. Bruce Willis was superhuman in it. But I digress, because this is all explained by Michael Scott in a 4th season episode of the Office.
NOW, with this in mind, since that 4th one was in fact made, they may as well keep churning ‘em out. The original will always stand as one of the greatest action films of all time, the most influential of all time (in regards to character, to the “everyman” taking on, well, EVERY MAN), and that’s that. It’s legacy won’t be tarnished by these newer films, because the original DIE HARD really still stands alone. I can show my kid that movie without HAVING to show him the others.
Pretty out-of-left-field choice, but at least Bruce is still excited about the role. Here’s hoping they don’t try to make it seem like a “final” installment with a lot of fan service to the original. Such an approach always comes across more like fan fiction than a true sequel.
As for the last installment, I thought it was fine. But then, I also grew up with the original three films, so I don’t really need for Bruce to swear every other word and pretend he’s still in his thirties. I’d much rather see an older approach to the character.
i’m going to officially consider 16 BLOCKS the 4th and final DIE HARD movie and call it a day. it’s hard to pinpoint where Bruce Willis started phoning in his life but the seed was definitely planted somewhere between signing on to THE STORY OF US and his split with Demi Moore.
Noam is actually a really talented director. Poor guy really wants to direct DH5? Oy!
Funny. It was reported earlier today that Fox was totally underwhelmed with the script by Skipper Woods. Finally, seeing the guy’s work is bad huh Fox?
Die Hard + PG-13 = DIE SOFT
Best hopes to DH5, but given the current quality of most movies these days, I am scared at what this will do to the series.
DH5, sure, DH6 even, but I really doubt some will pull it off.
Too bad Bruce, your DH series can really work, if given the spark, sadly, many will watch the dice being thrown.
The top writers, thinkers, specs, etc will pick their paths and futures…and some of it is priceless.
