The Tommy Wirkola-directed Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters at Paramount Pictures is now set for a March 2, 2012, release date. We hear the budget is pegged at $60 million and that MGM will co-finance because it’s now run by the Spyglass Entertainment guys and they had a close relationship with Paramount for years. (Besides, MGM’s soon-to-close co-financing deal with Sony Pictures, accomplished by leveraging James Bond #23, won’t be exclusive.) Paramount will take worldwide theatrical and home entertainment and domestic television rights, while MGM will handle international television. Hansel & Gretel 3D stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the title characters who, 15 years after their narrow fairy tale escape from the gingerbread house, become specialized bounty-hunters looking to take down the witches that almost killed them. Famke Janssen will play the leader of the witches. The movie is being produced by Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay, and Kevin J. Messick.

3D. My interest-o-meter has just swung from high to low. Anyone seen the script able to tell me it’s so good I can overlook the lack of luminance, the ‘flat pack’ look and the headache and nausea will be worth it?
Everyone who’s read the script at Paramount has been awestruck, and all parties are very excited. However as everyone knows, anything can happen during production, and directors do often attempt to make their own mark on a film by changing certain elements.
That can certainly happen, but as it stands now the project looks solid.
Although I still don’t understand Jeremy Renner’s coming off the new MISSION IMPOSSIBLE to star in HANSEL & GRETEL. Seems like two steps back in terms of pure perception.
Script looks very entertaining. I agree about the 3D though, wish we could just move on from this fad.
Thiss will be terrible. The first feature by this director, Bujo something or other, was never distributed it was so bad.
Dead Snow was equally terrible. And Hansel & Gretel was actually a short Wirkola did at school. If any of you saw it you wouldn’t have words to describe how bad it is.
But the defenders will say, its stupid comedy, and not to take the films seriously. That’s a BS excuse. Bad is bad.
Well, as a Norwegian I can say that you are, firstly, very wrong when it comes to Kill Buljo. Sure, a low brow comedy, but it was made for practically nothing, and it got a cult-following here in Norway. Not only that, but it sold to many countries overseas.
And Dead Snow, well, I loved the movie, and so does many others it seems as well (IMDB). Can’t wait for this one!
Wrong. Kill Buljo was a big hit in Norway, and was also sold to many other countries. Not bad for a movie made for nothing.
As for Dead Snow, I thought it was great, fun and gory. Looking forward to this one.
kill buljo startes as a film made by a couple of friends with regular cameras you can buy from any electronics store. iit was a fun romp with lots of hit and miss humor. but it was a big success in norway none the less
