Paramount Insurge, the division formed to generate micro-budget movies following the studio’s success with Paranormal Activity, has made its first acquisition. Insurge just acquired an untitled pic by director and co-writer William Brent Bell for worldwide distribution (it had the working title The Devil Inside but studio says it might change). Par-based Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be exec producer with Paranormal Activity‘s Steven Schneider. Faith is no protection for a young woman whose mother is accused in the mysterious murders of three religious figures. Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth and Suzan Crowley star. The film is produced by Morris Paulson and Matt Peterman, who wrote the script with Bell. CAA and Automatik Entertainment’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones brokered the deal. Sierra/Affinity sold international rights. Filmmakers are repped by CAA and Generate, Andrade by Genesis Entertainment Partners.

Sounds interesting, as long as it doesn’t turn into a stupid horror flick
I hear that it is a really great movie with superior acting from new faces. It brings a new and unique approach of addressing the subject that will surprise and capture the audience, I’m excited and anxious to watch it!
LOL.. it’s not obvious at all that you’re involved with it…
i’ve seen the film and think this movie is going to be huge. good move by paramount.
Sounds like a great idea for February Sweeps!
Platt @ Generate has been talking about this film forever, plus I saw an early screening of it…the movie is going to kill! Solid buy.
That this report buries the fact the direct DID DIRECT a “stupid horror film” called Stay Alive.
What does it mean Lorenzo will exec produce?
Sounds like everyone commenting worked on the film or works for Paramount. Still waiting to hear about the micro-budget movies and the filmmakers that Insurge Pictures is supposed to be giving a chance to start their filmmaking careers. Also to actually be able to go to the Insurge Pictures website and see an actual active website.
So far, with this news, it seems it’s just set up for industry insiders who have already produced a movie on their own. Which makes it sound like Insurge is going to be just another distributor working under the guise of a pseudo indie production arm of Paramount Pictures. C`mon guys! Where’s the access?
This film was number one this weekend and was called THE RITE. Lol. Paramount missed the boat.
I heard from someone that is it MUCH better than ‘Exorcism Diaries’. With a better ending. We shall see.
I’ve watched “The Rite” with high expectations, but I have no words to express my disappointment to see such a poor, uncreative movie. Paramount may have missed the timing, but the opportunity for a great movie of the genre is still out there!!
As a regular and loyal follower of Nkki’s blog, I find it strange that my comment was removed, when all I did was make a statement and asked questions based on the news release and readers’ comments I had read concerning Paramount Insurge’s news release.
I stated that most of the people commenting, sounded like they worked for either Paramount Insurge or the writers of the film and that it sounds like Insurge is not so much interested in producing micro budget films as much as they are in distributing them. As the article seems to indicate, rather ambiguously, that the film is being produced, then says it is produced. Rather confusing.
Anyway, what about the great news for new filmmakers to get a chance at making a micro budget film through Insurge Pictures that would have a chance at theatrical release? It’s been months since their announcement and this is the first news we have? With all the heavy hitters involved in this project, it doesn’t sound like some new talent getting a break. It just sounds like your average Hollywood deal going down between the same old players.
I also stated it would be nice to see an Insurge Pictures website that was active, instead of the dead page they have for a website. Seems pretty amateurish at best. This is not hate speech, just reasonable observations and questions, so why was my comment removed? These certainly seem like reasonable observations and questions.
Hmmm, Could it be that there are powers far greater at play here than meets the eye? Or merely just some sort of mistake? I’m hoping for the later.
I don’t care either way, but because you hear the word ‘faith’ you immediately compare it to The Rite? You have been eating retard sandwiches again.
Nikki means this will be the first law suit filed from the union that cost big P millions and millions.
Go Adam!
To me, this article is a little unclear. Is Paramount producing this film from scratch or providing finishing funds for a work in progress?
Given how many microbudget films are out there, it seems as if it would be a lot cheaper and easier to provide finishing funds than to do films from scratch.
Sounds like a direct-to-video release to me. What’s this, the third exorcism ‘film’ in the past calendar year? Prediction: At some point the possessed will writhe and contort. How frightening and original. Way to really raise the bar paramount. And yes, Shadowman, this does sound like your every-day hollywood deal in lieu of looking for fresh new talent. Suit logic, though I could be wrong. We’ll have to wait for the release to pop this into our dvd players or comps tell.
Bell & Peterman are really great guys. Good for them.
I have been trying to submit my screenplay to Insurge. I have a production team and a small studio in Cherry Hill New Jersey. I graduated film school ten years ago and have made award winning shorts and commercials. I also directed a pro-bono documentar Jean Webster: The Mother Theresa of Atlantic city which won the Atlantic City Film festival. When I first saw the ad for Insurge, I was very excited to try to get my Supernatural thriller involving the underground railroad made through them because I believed I had a very good story and I could showcase my directing skills. I have a team ready to go and I have a 102 page well written screenplay. How do I get Insurge to look at my stuff? Somebody please tell me. Oh congrats on getting your film picked up by Paramount Mr. Bell. If anyone can give me information regarding Insurge’s submission process, please do.
