Feature and Broadway actor Patrick Wilson is making his first foray into series TV as the star of CBS’ untitled Susannah Grant drama pilot. Jonathan Demme is directing he supernatural medical drama, from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Timberman/Beverly Prods., which centers on an ultra-competitive surgeon (Wilson) whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the here-after. Wilson’s only previous TV gig was a co-starring role on the HBO miniseries Angels In America, which earned him an Emmy nomination. Wilson was approached by 3 drama pilots this season. As part of his deal for the Susannah Grant pilot, its production will be moved to New York where Wilson lives. CAA-repped Wilson most recently starred in the Sundance entry The Ledge.

another one moves to tv.
Why?
Another medical drama…
Good actor who landed some amazing roles in films that should have made more money. Shame his career is being downgraded. Probably doesn’t help how vanilla and nondescript he looks.
Why? Isn’t his movie career going decently? He was in A-Team and Morning Glory recently, with Insidious opening soon. Perhaps the money’s good.
Sounds a lot like Everwood.
a doctor who learns about life from his dead wife? So it’s like Dexter meets Six Feet Under meets Marcus Welby. How about he learns about life from her twin sister? And does his ghost wife wash her hands before she pops up in the operating room? There’s hygiene issues here!
And Demme? Is he hitting rock bottom? I’m watching Shout! Factory’s new transfer of Caged Heat. Remember when Demme made movies you got excited to see? It’s been 20 years since Silence of the Lambs. Damn shame you can’t blame his cold streak on vices.
Can you verify if Shout Factory used the uncut version of the movie with the full inmate talent show scene? The old Roger Corman DVD had missing material including Roberta Collins’ Pinocchio joke. Thanks!
Patrick Wilson is an extremely talented actor and singer. I can’t wait to see how this series turns out. If the series is successful, I hope he still finds time to star in movies (and Broadway shows). He’s always excellent in whatever role he’s in and isn’t afraid to tackle challenging material.
I’ll bite…
Here’s the thing. This guy is talented as hell. I know if I recommend ‘The Switch’ any and every one will roll their eyes. But he is PHENOMENAL IN IT, steals every scene he’s in. Hell, steals every scene he’s not in. Well, Bateman is also fantastic in it. Aniston, eh. And the directors… okay, let’s just say the directors were the guys who made the ‘Geiko Cavemen’ commercials — AND TV SHOW. So how good could it have been? They’re permanent residents of Hackville with a summer house in Awful Land, and a timeshare in The Ego Islands. But Wilson is a fantastic actor, comedic and dramatic, and I wish him well.
Like him. Very much a wallflower that does his job. Tv shows need the same. It’s a medium that follows. He will do very well as long as there is a solid new cast around him.
Some thoughts: Chris Witzel, Ben Riggens, Wesley French, Tina Whitley, Brian Robin, all good unknows.
Don’t be a schmuck. Big tip. It could be you.
goog luck patrick
Another bloody medical drama! Are the networks aware that there are occupations outside of doctors, lawyers and cops? One wouldn’t think so by looking at what’s on TV. Patrick Wilson is a good actor. Loved him since Angels in America but this show sounds hokey. I don’t see it lasting.
I have been waiting for a REAL STAR to finally do something worthwhile on TV. Its about time some ! Enough with crappy pilots and talant-LESS actors. YEI for PATRICK ! Bring us some class and talent to a deserted medium.
Like the second entry of this blog…”Ill bite”
The script is awesome. Come on, it’s Susannah Grant. And Wilson is one of the best in his group, always has been, always will be. Good for him for shaking things up. I’ll watch.
The script really is awesome.
very sorry to hear that this versatile, talented actor is going to get mired in this medium/ghost whisperer knock off piece of CRAP….jonathan demme or not….THINK PATRICK….i mean…jonathan demme isn’t going to be around every week…..you’re too talented for this CRAP……
this is like a modern day version of the ghost and mrs. muir with
some twists firt there is the medical twist and the second twist
is the doctor is one talking to the ghost
Really like the actor. I may see the first episode based on him and the director, but I am not sure if the subject matter seems all that unique or interesting to me. We shall see how they execute the story.
This is why Hollywood fails with almost every movie they do. Everyone acts like it’s such a big deal that this guy is going to TV. Dude isn’t a star. The fans have voted. He probably won’t even do well in TV. My favorite post on here is the one that says “Why? Isn’t his movie career going decently? He was in A-Team and Morning Glory recently, with Insidious opening soon.” Shouldn’t that be – Well at least he has TV to go to now that he’s been in several big budget bombs like the A-Team and Morning Glory.
The town needs to quit trying to push losers like Wilson on an audience that obviously doesn’t want to see the guy. Give people actors they wants to see, stories they want to see and good scripts and you’ll make money. Push losers like Wilson down people’s throats and they will vote with their feet.
Delicious Patrick Wilson every week? Yep, we like it. We like it VERY VERY MUCH. He’s got the goods. Talent plus PLUS!!!! Very good news for the television landscape. Congrats to all of us. The viewers. Cool. Very cool indeed. Amen.
Patrick Wilson is a major hottie, and he is one of the most gifted acted actors on stage & screen- and he has an incredible singing voice. I agree, why the hell is he doing tv ? ! Yes, Patrick is so charming & a reliable scene stealer. He stole so many scenes in “The A-Team”, “Little Children”, and “Hard Candy”. This guy needs to fire his agent . He should be starring in that Lincoln vampire movie and the Tom Cruise role in “Rock of Ages”.
Hooray for Patrick Wilson!! I really hope that this is a great show that lasts. Mr. Wilson is an exceptional actor with more talent then most on TV currently. He deserves the opportunity to do TV and movies and I wish him much success. I’ll bite and come back for seconds!
