Fox’s American Idol (7.2/20 in adults 18-49, 21.7 million) continues to hold up well. Its first Hollywood week episode last night was down just 4% in the demo and 1% in total viewers from last week’s Thursday audition episode. Vs. the comparable episode on Wednesday last year, Idol was down 7% in 18-49 and up 3% in viewers. At 9 PM, Bones (3.3/9, 10.1 million) was even with last week, and Fox once again topped the night with a 5.3/14 in 18-49 and 15.9 million viewers.
Last night was a mixed bag for ABC. At 8 PM, Winter Wipeout (2.2/6, 6.9 million) continues to fade against Idol after a strong start, down 12% in 18-49 from last week for a season low. Tentopole drama Grey’s Anatomy (3.9/10) was also down, by 9%, tying its season low. On the bright side, Grey’s spinoff Private Practice 2.7/7 perked up, up 8% from last week, despite its lead-in being down.
CBS’ lineup was mostly down. Big Bang Theory (3.9/11, 12.8 million) was down 9%, $#*! My Dad Says (2.7/7, 10.4 million) was down 4%, while CSI (2.8/7, 12.6 million) was down 7% to tie its series low. At 10 PM, The Mentalist (2.9/8, 14.7 million) was flat. CBS (3.0/8, 13 million) was No.2 for the night in 18-49 and viewers behind Fox.
It was a seesaw night at NBC, with the 8 PM and 9 PM anchors down and 8:30 and 9:30 shows up. Struggling new comedy Perfect Couples (1.5/4), which airs against Idol at 8:30 PM, was up 7% from last week, while its lead-in, Community (1.8/5) was down 10%. Perfect Couples‘ retention was 85% vs. 69% for CBS’ $#*!. In a similar fashion, Parks & Recreation (2.6/7) at 9:30 PM was up 8%, while The Office (3.6/9) was down 3%. Both comedies in the 10 PM hour were down, 30 Rock (2.3/6) off 4%, Outsourced (1.7/5) down 6% for a series low.
CW’s dramas Vampire Diaries (2.7 million, 1.2/3 in 18-49) and Nikita (1.9 million, 0.7/2) ere both down 20%+ in 18-49 from last week for season lows, but Nitita was even in the network’s target 18-34 demo (1.0).

Will someone call Jack Kevorkian and have him do an assisted suicide for The Office? I never watched a show go downhill so fast. They ruined the characters of Jim and Pam. I can’t stand them now. Last night’s episode was unbearable. I was embarrased for them that they had to air that mess.
All I can say is … I agree!! I used to LOVE Jim & Pam, but, it’s not because they got married, it’s that they are now petty annoying twits.
Kill the show. Please.
Though I guess it doesn’t matter. I’m done watching.
I stopped watching after the season premiere. The reason the show is not as great as it used to be is simple… they don’t have a story to follow anymore. Before Jim of Pam had a story, they wanted each other knowing they could not happen, their story was great with things we expected (getting together) and things we didn’t (having a child). Michael with Jan was a decent story until they turned her character annoying; her character should have remained as a stuck up executive. The other characters are bring dumbed-down, especially Kapour and BJ, they should be fired. The show has become a franchise and they are gong to drag it as long as they (NBC and writers) can.
There is always the option of not watching a show you don’t care for….
don’t worry too much about it. having will ferrel later this season and the rumors of adding will arnet to the cast will kill it fast enough.
the biggest problem with the show right now is that none of the characters are even remotely as likable as they used to be. everyone has become a shell of what made everyone fall in love with this show in the first place. it’s a shame really. the first few years in america were great. the last few, not so much.
Wow. What happened to CSI’s ratings? They used to be huge.
It’s in its 11th season. Very few shows last that long, and even fewer can maintain high ratings for such a length of time.
Perfect Couples is a really good show. I would swap it’s placement with Outsourced or Parks and Rec. It doesn’t feel 8:30 to me.
We DVR everything and watch The Office, 30 Rock and then finish up with Perfect Couples. It’s a nice mix.
Outsourced is horrible so we skip that and we never got into Community or Parks and Rec despite being told we should be into it.
Hope NBC doesn’t pull the plug on Perfect Couples. My wife and I dig it.
Holy crap. You like Perfect Couples, but don’t watch Community or Parks and Recreation? That’s astounding.
I agree – Perfect Couples is funny. I didn’t think I’d like it but I do. Do yourself a favor and watch Community and especially Parks & Recreation. Both are funny; P&R actually makes me laugh out loud every now and then, which is rare for me as most sitcoms don’t do that.
Perfect Couples is funny. I hope they give it some time. They gave community a chance and it is starting to grow.
Perfect Couples is unbearable. We struggled through the premier only because there was nothing else on and we were waiting for the Office. It was so bad, I’m not sure how anyone can like it. The acting is awful, as is the writing.
It’s getting better every episode. Would be unfair to judge a whole book by the first chapter, so please keep your keyboard to yourself if you’re choosing not to watch.
wasn’t crazy about the pilot of Perfect Couples, or the second episode, but it’s getting better. i think it could end up being a pretty good show
Too late, audience has already checked out. Should have wrote better opening episodes.
If Perfect Couples could actually tie Community and Outsourced then NBC would have an interesting decision.
Community was terrific — and it had a Girl/Girl smooch! Men of America, where were you???
Perfect couples has gotten better & better with each episode. I really like the cast (epsecially Olivia Munn) I hope nbc will continue to let the show grow and find a audience.
I hated the first two episodes of Perfect Couples. The third was better but these writers need to define who their characters are. The normal couple but the other two are all over the place. The basis of a great comedy is clearly defined characters. So simple. I live Community. Can’t stand Parks and Recreation (Office 2). Outsourced didn’t staff me so I only watched one episode and it was unfunny. They should’ve hired me. Okay, I’m done bitching.
