It is amazing for a show in its eighth season to post a series high in today’s fragmented TV universe. It is even more amazing for an eight-year-old show to do it twice. That’s what CBS’ NCIS did last night, drawing its largest Live+same day audience to date, 22.7 million, and eclipsing the previous record of 19.9 million posted just 3 weeks ago. In adults 18-49, the veteran procedural averaged a 4.6/12, up 12% from its last original 2 weeks ago and its best result in more than a year. NCIS‘ hot steak has been helped by Fox’s Glee airing repeats in the 8 PM slot for the entire month of January but still, packing such audiences at this stage of a show’s lifespan is pretty remarkable. NCIS was easily the top program of the night in viewers and 18-49, leading CBS to a nightly win in both categories. NCIS: LA (3.8/9, up 15% vs. 1/18; 17.8 million) and The Good Wife (2.2/6, up 5%; 12.1 million) extended CBS’ winning ways with time-slot wins at 9 PM and 10 PM. At 10 PM, The Good Wife was tied in the demo with
NBC’s Parenthood, which was also up 5% from its most recent original 2 weeks ago. Parenthood followed a two-hour Biggest Loser: Couples (3.3/8), which was up 3% from last week’s hourlong telecast to match its season high for a non-finale episode.
With a No Ordinary Family repeat (1.1/3) as a lead-in, ABC’s V (1.7/4) was down 15% from Jan. 18 when it followed an original Family to hit a series low. Struggling freshman Detroit 1-8-7 (1.2/3) at 10 PM was up 20% from its last original 3 weeks ago but still finished dead last in the hour.
Following a Glee repeat (1.7/4), Fox aired the finale of Million Dollar Money Drop (1.8/4), which was down 5% from its most recent episode 2 weeks ago.
The big wedding episode of CW’s One Tree Hill (2.4 million) drew the show’s largest audience in more than a year, 2.4 million, and posted season highs in key demos, including 18-34 (1.3/4). Hellcats (1.9 million, 1.1/3 in 18-34) was even with last week’s demo delivery and down 14% in total viewers.

Will someone please tell Greenbladt to stick Parenthood on in a 9pm timeslot!!?? Why the fuck would they make their target audience work to find one of the better shows on television?
Awesome job NCIS! Great episode.
Does anyone know what its record in the demo is?
SERIOUSLY— terrible, obvious and shot out of focus episode by someone no one has ever heard of who now is a “Producer”???!!!
I’ve been a fan but since the forcing out of Bellisario— how does the creator get fired anyway?—BUT, the episodes have become not only politically correct and mind numbingly dumbed down but push a glaring left wing agenda. Pro muslim; remember the “Christmas” episode last year— pro homosexual; pushing against DADT— and last night’s boring and obvious script all about violence against woman, right down to the characters comments that a woman abused has a right to kill the abuser.
GONE are the tense plots about terrorism and the Mossad— still so many twists from years past not only left hanging but simply forgotten such as who really IS Director Vance, what was the document he destroyed when he came into the office upon the murder of Director Sheppard; and who texted the traitor agent in the elevator, etc. , etc., etc………
Am I the only one tired of the contrived goofballitis of Tony— the endless sexual strip tease between Tony and Ziva (kiss already) or the lump that is McGee who looks now as if he is in Chemo treatment as he is so gaunt and frail.
The writers have run out of wacky for Abby and Ducky now just phones in his requisite 3 lines of dialogue— and the clearly bored Mark Harmon seems to think acting as constipated is Emmy material.
Boring and obvious scripts— abandoning what made the show: PATRIOTISM, VALUES AND GUTS— and trying to be loved by Hollywood elties has created a mush that is neither arresting or memorable.
ONCE UPON A TIME, NCIS was worth the effort. Now, marking time and adding to syndie heaven, only.
A show that once embraced America, now can not wait to evidence its disdain for WE, the people. Pity.
Hollywood “elties”? Boy, I’d love to meet some of those. Go smoke a bowl or something, DJT. Your anger is scary. It’s just a TV show. Yikes.
SORRY if the truth bothers you— nor will personal attacks change reality.
If you do not know that the show has taken a far left turn since Bellisario was forced out— that the plots increasingly dumbed down and made to conform with the politically correct run amok views of the Hollywood “elites” particularly the women producer/showrunners who increasingly are decimating any program that dares to be action/male oriented as NCIS or HUMAN TARGET, and as with the last episode, just junk— then obviously you do not watch the show, nor are cognizant of the trend in TVland. READ the trades once and a while before insulting others!
Did you just blame the “women producer/showrunners” for the show’s problems? That’s not only sexist and insulting, but just plain wrong. Far as I know, NCIS has employed very few women as writers during its eight-year run. And certainly never at showrunner position. Bellisario wouldn’t have stood for that. And I’m sure HUMAN TARGET, etc. don’t have many women writers, either. That’s Hollywood. So, did you ever think that maybe the male staffs of these shows have realized that — surprise, surprise — it is WOMEN who make up the majority of the television viewing audience, and that just maybe it’s a good idea to play to that? Something to consider.
“who really IS Director Vance [and] what was the document he destroyed when he came into the office upon the murder of Director Sheppard”
This one is actually solved. Watch this years two-parter (8+9) again.
First of all, Bellisario had to go because of constant budget and deadline problems and apparently ‘a feud’ with Harmon.
Second, even if what you are writing was true – the audience seems to like “the new direction” (a plus of 10 million viewers).
But honestly, stuff like them having a “pro Muslim” agenda just shows that you are nuts. What would that even be?
I love the show but it now looks like they took all the out of focus cameras from the show “Numbers” and the idiot who insists on shooting directly into a light source or window effectively placing the people in the dark. Great for the occasional artsy shots but I swear this is the same idiot who turned “Numbers” into a dark, see if you can see the characters, show.
I have a new HDTV and this show is the only one, other than local news, where I am not enjoying the higher detail picture.
Somebody better check to see if their is vaseline smeared all over the lens of the cameras.
This is sad.
I hope NCIS comes in at #1 for the season. I’m sick of reality dominating the Top Ten.
Any idea how much Harmon is making on this?not a big fan of the show but Harmon has been great in the few episodes watched. I haven’t seen him in anything since summer school in my teens.
he was making a shade over $300k/episode three seasons ago so he’s probably in the $400-$450k/ep range by now.
I watched the show, primarily because it was original programming. I noticed the Good Wife was a new episode as well, but the vast majority of network television is repetitive. I think what these numbers show is not only is NCIS good, which it is, but the American viewer wants to see more scripted shows that haven’t been aired.
I’m more interested in knowing how The Game performed on BET… That to me is the real ratings story. If it’s still floating above 6 million viewers then I wanna know about it, and the potential impact it could have on original programming for BET (which has never been able to be anything good, since it has historically tired to be all things to all black folk)
The Good Wife is the best show on regular tv, bar NONE
I know the NCIS numbers are exciting, but because it’s CBS, I’m feeling bored.
Love NCIS. I still haven’t figured out why everyone else loves it too though. Its just a solid show with great, dependable characters that you know will keep you entertained for an hour. I just wish they didn’t air so many repeats.
Anyone who likes NCIS needs to give Castle a try.
Actually its high a few weeks ago was 21.93 million viewers, its been above twenty million a good few times.
The Good Wife and Parenthood are the two best dramas on TV right now. Them and How I Met Your Mother make TV worth having for me. I wish more people watched these shows. The rest is a take it or leave it type deal for me.
I think that the paralyzing blizzard may have helped the TV ratings. As an example, Chicago was completely shut down last night.
DJT I know what you mean, the last time I watched Human Target (which I liked) it was just the three of them. When I watched it a couple weeks ago they had added two women, I said WTF and watched it and this weeks episode and I found it lost it’s edge. Now it’s trying to be cutsey funny, less action, now it feels like every other crap out there. I don’t see this lasting.
