As an executive producer on the U.S. version of his British series The Office, Ricky Gervais has a say in what happens on the show. If it things go his way, Arrested Development star Will Arnett would be joining the NBC comedy after original star Steve Carell leaves later this season. “Had a little meeting with NBC about various things and recommended Will Arnett for a regular in The Office,” Gervais wrote on his blog today. “I think he’s amazing.”
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Will Arnett would be amaaaaaazing! Absolute perfection for The Office. I might actually start watching it again if he joins the cast.
Will seems like a nice enough guy, but he is not a star. I know Hollywood seems desperate to make him one, but his one-note delivery of every role he does has become boring and annoying. He’s basically the comedic version of Terrence Howard.
Maybe if his manager wasn’t such a self-promoting shit for brains this could happen.
Bingo.
Would be great and fit but the thing is he will always be GOB.
When I saw him on Running Wilde, first reaction “GOB on valium”.
Brilliant idea. Oh come on!
Will Arnet is comedy gold, but on this show he’d be kinda meh. And he would probably be almost exactly the same character as Michael Scott. It’s an uninteresting casting choice..
Will Arnett is NOT “amazing.” Can we please stop MINDLESSLY over-using this word? Splitting the atom was amazing. The Wright brothers’ first flight at Kitty Hawk was amazing. Man’s initial voyage to and subsequent landing on the moon was amazing. The ability to send images through the airwaves to a television screen is amazing. Those are feats that for centuries were thought to be impossible, so their fruition is indeed amazing. But a tv actor engaging in his basic craft — acting — is NOT “amazing.” It may be good, it may be entertainig, it may even be hilarious, but it is NOT “amazing.” Good lord, can we start distributing theasauruses to every adult? Basic vocabulary skills are becoming extinct.
And NO, Arnet does NOT need to join the cast. They just brought Oliphant on and now can’t figure out how to use him. And they have Farrell coming on. That’s enough. Just work on developing good storylines for your core cast and stop trotting out new people every damn week. It is one of my favorite shows and, sadly, it is losing its mojo.
C’MON! Will Arnett is amazing. Are you the hyperbole police or did he screw you over? Let it go man. Let. It. Go.
‘Amazing’ along with awesome, unbelievable, unique. Such overused words. Yes a Thesaurus for every family.
Those things may be amazing to you, and Will Arnett may be amazing to others.
WILL ARNETT is amazing! He is one of the funniest leading men out there. Gervais is right!!!!!
amazing is relative douche!
Clearly Gervais didn’t see Running Wilde.
The Office needs to mix it up and bring in a female boss. I’d love to see Lisa Kudrow or Catherine O’Hara brought in. I think they’d be hysterical.
Then you should just watch Parks and Rec. Same idea. I wouldn’t watch it if there were a female boss, sorry. Nothing against females…
“The Office needs to mix it up and bring in a female boss.”
You mean Kathy Bates?
“Clearly Gervais didn’t see Running Wilde.”
-Yes, because no one funny or talented ever did anything that failed.
I do, however, agree that Kudrow or O’Hara would be brilliant.
Well, if NBC doesn’t jump on that suggestion, then I don’t know who’s running the show. Arnett, alone, is one of TV’s funniest talents. He is one of the few people who can fill the absurdist shoes of Michael Scott.
Don’t even think twice, NBC…just make the phone call.
“A-cock-a-doodle-doo.”
I believe you mean “Coak-ah-coak-ah-a-coak-ah…” (You get the idea).
Hahahah This is great.
“CMON!”
I think it’s a great idea. Just what NBC deserves.
Val Kilmer.
If that sounds crazy, think of Alec Baldwin.
I LIKE this. Val could play some guy from corporate who was just demoted and comes into the office shocked at his situation (new regional manager). he would spend a lot of the time with a bemused/blown away look on his face, staring out windows, distracted. the office would be trying to figure out why HE is now the manager. Could be funny.
Val is super slick and would fit as a NYC corporate guy moving down the ladder to Scranton.
Val Kilmer? Kevin already has the ‘fat guy’ character covered.
I’d love it, but I know some people that find Arnett grating when he’s used in more than a supporting role. I guess it depends on whether or not he’d be as much of the “main character” as Michael Scott is.
Now THAT is what I call perfect casting. Genius.
Now that is exciting
I like Arnett as well, but he’s wrong to replace the Michael Scott character. He’d be a great replacement for David Brent, however.
No. Stop it with this guy. He’s not funny but has found himself in this circle if “in” people.
Will is a failed dramatic actor. He’s a nice enough fellow but enough already.
The Office has jumped the shark.
Good day.
Can you name the moment it jumped the shark? I dont think it has even come close to nuking the fridge yet.
Per this announced interest in Mr. Arnett. Jump jump jump.
Good day.
I doubt Arnett has the chops. Just because you’re funny doesn’t mean you can be star of the office. Carell is great in dramatic scenes. Arnett seems like a one note broad comedy actor, albeit a talented one. People need to stop naming all these people who they think should run the office, just because they were funny in one thing.
GOB running Dunder Mifflin?! Brilliance! COME ON! Make it happen, NBC.
Bob Odenkirk would bring a different twist to the role. The suggestion of Val Kilmer above was inspired.
I agree with you. Bob or Val would be great.
The Office is still on TV?
How cute. Did Tim and Dawn ever hook up?
If Will Arnett migrated his character from the Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, he would kill on The Office. It would be a very differnet portrayal than Carrel and Gervais, but the idea of him replacing David Brent at Dunder Mifflen has great potential.
Friends and I are hoping Craig Robinson’s character Darryl gets the promotion to Michael’s position. It would make sense in the company structure, his subtle humor has added great depth to the show, and he wouldn’t even have to inherit Michael’s role as the show’s protagonist (though we wouldn’t mind that either). For a few years I watched that show just for Jim and Pam, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
I like this idea too. Craig Robinson is freakin’ GREAT and HILARIOUS. Very subtle. This could work and save from having to hire another actor.
I’m just surprised our friend-the poster who goes by “Elia”- didn’t suggest this! DIVERSITY!!!!!!!
I think it would be great if Matt Walsh came in and he played a new boss who was sort of like the psychiatrist he played in Martin & Orloff.
Or, kidnap Brian McCann away from Conan and make him the new boss.
Good way to kill the show. Will Arnett is TV and box office poison.
But Ricky Gervais, WE WANT YOU!!!!
