EXCLUSIVE: Roseanne Barr is back in primetime as the star of a 16-episode comedic reality series for Lifetime.
The show, from Biggest Loser producer 3 Ball/Eyeworks and Full Moon & High Tide Prods., will chronicle the Emmy-winning actress and comedienne’s newfound life managing a fully-functional 40-acre macadamia and live stock farm on Hawaii’s Big Island alongside her long-time writer-musician boyfriend Johnny Argent and son Jake. “I’m coming back down to earth, and keeping it real,” Barr said. They’ve said ‘Roseanne’s nuts’ for years, and now I’m going to make that a reality – I’m all about nuts now, macadamia nuts!” The yet-untitled series will premiere later this year.
“Roseanne Barr is an undeniable force of nature and the idea of following her in this unique premise excited us from the get-go,” said Lifetime’s president and general manager Nancy Dubuc. “Roseanne is funny and brutally-honest, and our audience will relate to her decision to go on this adventure and create an entirely new life for herself.”
Barr is best known as the star of her her eponymous hit sitcom, which ran on ABC from 1988 to 1997. She returned to the network in 2003 for a reality show chronicling her efforts to launch a cooking and lifestyle show.

I’m there! Heard her in an interview a while back talking about her nut farm. It was hilarious.
does anyone seriously care about this show? and 16 episodes? isn’t that a lot for a first season? is this really going to help push Lifetime up the ratings ladder? i don’t get it.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Ratings
The Real Roseanne show/Never made it to air food network series Anyone???
I wish her sitcom would end already. i mean, she’s probably going to make this whole final season turn out to be a dream, a la Newhart (but not as original or good), and the whole show feels like a completely different series: she’s won the lotto? Dan has cheated on her? Babies and money? I just want ‘Roseanne’ to end already!
THIS HAS BEEN A RETRO POST.
LOL very nice.
“Roseanne” was one of the most socially significant series in TV history. Whatever the tensions getting it made (and I hear they’re filed under “World War III”) it was a remarkable portrayal of an audience that the television industry wants in its pocket but not on its screen. Nuts to you, Roseanne!
Loved, loved her show, Roseanne, when it aired in the 90′s but a reality show? Meh….. She needs to do another sitcom
This concept sounds like a complete train wreck. Which is exactly why I want to see it.
i look forward to this show for one it has Rose ann doing the perfect job for her farming nuts given how she some time came off as little nuts. plus her doing reality tv can be taken as a sign reality tv is going to need some life support or is on its way to finaly dieing with Rose ann being the cure of reality tv. in fact hope the show lasts a long long time.
I will only watch if Tom Arnold becomes her houseboy… Now that will be REAL TV!
It’s official – ND and the network are grasping for straws. 3 fast-tracked reality shows since the merger – all unsuccessful. They should learn to actually develop instead of going straight to series on anything that walks in the door. Maybe learning from big brother A&E and other nets that lately, celeb-driven reality for this demo just doesn’t register anymore (see: Hasselhoff, Danza, Saget, Rivers, Rinna and on and on and on).
With the over abundance of reality shows…what is the problem giving Roseanne a shot?
She may actually be far more interesting entertainment than most of the other programs.
Go for it, Roseanne!
Congrats to Jim Kellem for packaging this…one of the good guys!
I agree.
Kudos Jim.
“Roseanne” was a great show until the star got complete creative control and drove off all the good writers. The last three or four years were a far cry from the first four seasons. In fact, if those final years didn’t exist, “Roseanne” would rank as one of the best sitcoms of all time.
Kinda reminds me of what happened to “All in the Family” after Norman Lear left and Carroll O’Connor got creative control.
There’s a lesson here for all you TV stars — act like a raging c**t and treat your writers like s**t when you’re on top and you end up fake farming on cable.
I don’t think she’s doing this show because she is starving. She just wants the fun and attention…
She’s doing this because her career is over (THANK YOU karma). I’m sure she doesn’t need the money (I’m guessing she was never exactly generous with it when she made it all those years ago because only kind people help others) — although she did seem to spend a fortune on her plastic surgery. My point is that for someone like her, a narcissist who nobody cares about anymore, a (fake) reality show is a sign of desperation. She doesn’t want fun, she wants to remain relevant. Good luck with that.
I hope they bring Jim Neighbors on. At least as a consultant.
I join with a legion of television veterans who experienced this monster first hand and hope she is run over by a tractor.
Oh boy, another reality show–can’t wait–and Rosanne Barr is on it–shoot me now…..
I’m guessing no later than, what, 15 minutes into the first episode when someone steps in poop?
A laff riot. Yawn.
Roseanne is like herpes. Just when you think it went away, oops, another outbreak. She was horrible in the 90s and she’s horrible now. Thank God I don’t have cable. You’d think when her talk show and previous attempts at reality both tanked, she’d get the hint. Please put her and Rosie O’Donnell on a burning raft like Vikings only still alive.
Go away, Roseanne.
She’s a terrible person. Despicable, really. A borderline personality, pathologically narcissistic, barely literate and delusional. Cruel to the writers who made her her fortune. Left to her own idiotic devices, the show imploded. If there is any karma left in the Universe, this endeavor, too, shall fail. Nice going, Lifetime. Way to keep it classy.
actually, you are mistaken, and an idiot. She created and wrote the show for nine seasons, not just at the end. It was based on her work as a stand up comic. She hired many great writers who went on to great careers. She helped to raise the minimum wage and gives tons of money to all kinds of causes, including Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. You have read too many tabloid stories and inserted yourself into them as if you know this person when you have never in your life met her. That makes you despicable, mentally ill delusional and addicted to the national enquirer. Good thing you have no talent and we will never have to be forced to watch you try to do anything. We need less sheeple who regurgitate what the tabloids say in this country right now. Try to think, I know it must be very hard for you to do that, but trying something new would likely be good for you. ps–I am sure Lifetime cares what you think about anything. Sexist, much?
I’m not sure why anyone would be so defensive over this animal but to be clear: Roseanne hired talented writers, yes, and then treated them like pieces of s**t. Here’s a delightful interview she gave on the subject:
***
NORM: Th- the writers write it, and then you say it- so then, if it’s not funny, the audience hates YOU, y’know?
ROSEANNE: Right! That’s exactly why you have to be so mean to writers!
NORM: Right- right. Like the audience isn’t…
ROSEANNE: They- they go like this…
NORM: …the audience isn’t gonna watch the “Roseanne” show and go, “Oh, that dirty Bruce Rassmussen! He’s not funny at all!” (laughter)
ROSEANNE: (laughing) They don’t get that! The writers don’t get that it’s your ass out there, and they go, like, “No- it IS funny.” I’d be like, “I don’t think it’s funny!”
NORM: Yeah…
ROSEANNE: (as writer) “Well, I wrote it and I say it’s funny!” Well, then, YOU go out there and say it! (laughter)
NORM: (laughs)…Yeah.
ROSEANNE: They want like, kinda- they kinda wanna robot that’ll just say anything.
NORM: Yeah- but they’re good people- the writers, you know. I have to go back and talk to them after the show. (laughter) (edit)
ROSEANNE: Yeah, remember when I used to make you all wear numbers?
NORM: Yeah, yeah! (chuckles) Yeah, Roseanne made us all wear numbers on our, uh, shirts- so she wouldn’t have to speak to us as human beings. (laughter) So, uh, y’know, she’d say, “Hey- just Number 9″ and… Actually, we have some writers on THIS show (“The Norm Show”) that was, uh- that were- worked at “Roseanne”- uh, your show.

TO SUMMARIZE, SHE IS A DISGUSTING PIG AND IT’S TRULY A THRILL TO SEE HER CAREER END THIS WAY. And for the record, the “Roseanne” show — incredibly overrated.
Roseanne is one of the most disgusting, rude, disrespectful and over rated personalities ever to work in this biz. She treats staff like crap and the public like animals. I doubt this thing will last more than a couple of hard to watch episodes. She will likely screw this up the same way she did her first show and send her writers and staff running for the hills.
Her show is one of the few (not only) shows to deal with class in America. For that, she will always get props from me. Like Archie Bunker, it dealt with things that makes most people uncomfortable by dealing with it through comedy.
I liked her sitcom but she is so deranged and mean, I can’t stand the idea of seeing her on tv again.
I was around back in the late 80s when Roseanne was on full blast. Rolling around in mud like a fat pig in Vanity Fair, screeching the national anthem at a ball game, her white trash sitcom that people keep trying to tell me was “classic.” Her and that troll Sam Kinison (another screecher) were the two most annoying celebrities of the era but at least Kinison had the good grace to keel over.
I liked the Tom Arnold show “Jackie Thomas” more than “Roseanne.”
Go away Roseanne.
