UPDATE: While we’re at it, Vulture is citing an exclusive that Julia Roberts will play the evil queen in Relativity Media’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. Deadline told you that on December 13. All this begs two questions: What constitutes an exclusive? And why is Hollywood so transfixed with the zillion year old story of Snow White? THR had an actual exclusive the other day that Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt has boarded Disney’s long-gestating Francis Lawrence-directed action pic Snow and the Seven (though I can report Scott Rudin has stepped off that picture as producer). Hollywood, as it often does when it observes an unexpected success like the billion dollar-grossing Alice in Wonderland, is going to beat this fairy tale thing like a rented mule (there’s also a heated race going on with The Wizard of Oz), until flops slow the trend.

The studio will need all the Twilight fanbase it can get for this because as of now, SW&TH is scheduled to open against The Hobbit. And both being fantasy genre aiming for the same target, something will have its audience stollen. And I don`t think it`ll be the most anticipated prequel since The Prequels.
So, let me get this straight – Vogue sells out by having one of the hottest young actresses around (Kristen Stewart) who is critically acclaimed for her indie work, Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways, Adventureland, etc. (sorry despite your insane jealousy even YOU can’t deny that, no matter how much bitterly spew on message boards), and has carried the biggest blockbuster in years on her back — yet is NOT selling out with 10 Blake Lively covers in 2 years (which don’t sell), and lame brain TV hacktress Jen Aniston who uses Angelina Jolie (Cover: “What Angelina did Was Uncool – Waaaah”) to sell her issue? Kristen is amazing, and haters will be haters. Snow White & the Huntsmen is up 425% on imdb since this announcement. So eff off.
I think Kristen is a good actress actually. I just saw the Cake eaters and found it captivating.
But do they know that all of Kristen’s movies outside Twilight bombed at the box-office? Even that Runaways movie had a budget of $10 million and made only $3,573,673. And I remember that there were daily updated on almost every gossip and movie site about shooting. We had pictures from shooting, candids, interviews, previews. Every Twilight fan site was posting daily updates on Runaways… That movie had so much free publicity. And none of it translated to money.
How on earth producers of Snow White think that they will get money from it? Viggo is great actor and I love him but he is not box-office star and never was. Charlize Theron is in “Where are they know” category. All her superstar fame and celebrity status are gone. Kristen Stewart is hated by so many people because of the fact that she can’t act. And has zero box-office success.
Indies are a crap shoot. Most do not make back their money, only the exceptional ones do. Movies need to be marketed and distributed aggressively, that’s what studios are for. And every celebrity has their “haters”, it comes with being famous. She’s received critical acclaim for her smaller movies, she definitely CAN act.
You say Charlize is on the Where Are They Now files. Sorry that some actors like to take it slow and work in smaller projects. She was never a superstar, so how can you say her status is gone? Since Monster, she’s been able to get roles that allowed her to be more than just eye candy.
And I bet you won’t be saying that she’s in the Where Are They Now files after next year because she will be in Jason Reitman’s next big movie as the lead role. Jason Reitman films get awards. It’s also a juicy role.

One what planet is Stewart more attractive than Theron? The role requires spunk, grace, the ability to kickass, and about a zillion other thing Stewart has done nothing to prove to anyone she is remotely capable of achieving on screen. Theron will play the Queen great but I have lost all faith in the project thinking about the mirror telling Charlize that Kristen Stewart has become fairer than she…While she has the pale skin, I don’t see her pulling off the bright red lips while doing her annoying trademark tousling of her jet black hair…I’ll suspend disbelief with the magic and the sorcery, but a world in which our mousy friend is hotter than Ms. Theron, that is where I draw the line.
Get Mila or Minka or Natalie or someone with some presence in there……or cast Laurie Metcalf as the Queen to give Kristen a chance.
Well none of these young actresses are better looking than Charlize even if she’s got 15 years on them! So they will probably have to make her look ugly or I believe the script says that in this version she takes the youth and beauty from young girls and that’s how she stays beautiful.
It a movie. There is something called makeup. Charlize won an oscar for getting ugly. Remember? She can be uglier if the role calls for it. Same for Kristen, we never see her with makeup on because shes barely wearing it in real life and in twilight movies where bella is a normal girl. I WAS interested in this project until I heard there were 2 other snow white movies for the same year. Now its ridiculously boring. I like Kristen. She hasnt had a studio film released since twilight started and her indies that flopped only got distribution at all because of her. She can act. I will not be seeing any of these snow whites, but I am sure there will be some sort of audience. Remakes ugh, and casting of any of these women is dull dull dull. If I were making this, it would be unknowns for snow white, Mia w was an unknown for Alice, k Stewart has too much baggage for this lead role , and not enough box office history to bring the twi audience. I think the filmmaker is sounding desperate to get this off the ground. And Julia roberts? Is she nuts? Or are these the only roles available for her?
There is a “theme”, if you will, in casting Stewart. It’s either obscure Indies where little money is at risk, or something that will get the Twilight audience in the seats.
Interestingly, outside of Twilight, her moves usually lose money. The Runaways was a financial disaster and didn’t even do well in rental or sale.
Of course I don’t know this kid personally. Maybe she’s the nicest person on the planet. But it is so tiring of Hollywood to keep casting the talentless, or neigh unto talentless, when there are so many actors out there who can, I dunno, act. This is true especially in light of the fact that stunt casting, i.e. throwing a star at us, is no longer working.

Sorry but you’re wrong, The Runaways did very well in DVD sales. It made more in its DVD sales than it did in its theatrical run and that doesn’t include Bluray sales. It will likely make its budget back if it hasn’t already. How exactly is that a financial disaster? Not to mention KS’s performance in it was critically lauded(as she was, possibly to even a higher degree in Welcome to the Rileys) and praised by Joan Jett fans alike. The Runaways has also made dozens of top 10 of 2010 lists and just as many most underrated lists.
Some of these comments are so ridiculous. Stop putting unfair expectations on her. Since when is the boxoffice draw such an issue when casting a 20 y.o actress? Show me any other actress her age that is expected to carry a studio movie. You won’t find it because it’s unrealistic and doesn’t exist. There isn’t an actor out there with 100% success at the BO, far from it. You people saying her movies “bombed” apparently have no clue how the movie business works.

The fact of the matter is, anyone who’s been paying attention, knows this kid Stewart was the darling of Sundance last year, and has racked up critical acclaim for much of her film career. It wasn’t until she encountered the hateful she-cats of the Twi fandom who wish her ill because she’s dating ‘Edward Cullen,’ has any of this negativity even touched her. I don’t really hear too much about how much Amanda Seyfried, or Emma Roberts, or Abbie Cornish smile or don’t smile…and guess WHY? Because no one gives a dammn. Stewart gets hits, ratinsg and people talking worldwide just as much as Angelina Jolie these days. It’s pretty frightening. …and news bulletin: indies typically don’t make money. I don’t see anyone calling for Michelle Williams to be drummed out of Hollywood because she can’t ‘open’ a picture — ditto Hathaway, who bombs, ditto Aniston who bombs, ditto any number of actresses older than this kid, whose carried a billion dollar franchise for the last 3 years. I can’t wait to see the Stewart/Mortensen/Theron version of Snow White. I actually like the idea of redoing the old fairy tales for a more mature audience. It’s a vast untapped source of material. Better than yet another version of Batman or Spiderman. So tired of the comic book ‘super heroes’. And I can’t think of anybody who could play Snow White better than Kristen Stewart. She’s got her haters for sure, but I think she will surprise everybody with this movie.

there are now 3 snow white projects in the works, and all of them are set to come out in 2012. who many snow white movies does the world need? not to mention isn’t tim burton doing sleeping beauty? is the coming out in 2012 too?
None of them is currently in production.
