Summit Entertainment has acquired Unexpected, a pitch comedy that will be written by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson, based on a treatment by Jennifer Eatz. Todd Garner will produce with Eatz. The writers, who scripted the Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel-starrer Life As We Know It, this time focus on a husband and wife who find out they’re expecting their second child. While he’s thrilled, she has reservations because her first pregnancy was tough. After an untimely run-in with an ancient fertility totem, they switch bodies, and he gets to experience the business end of pregnancy.WME and Anonymous Content brokered the deal with attorney David Weber, with Summit production prexy Eric Feig and veep Meredith Milton overseeing.

This sounds horrible.
Yes, and at best, its only hope is in the execution.
The odds are unfavorable given the premise, but the right execution could make it work.
So how can they buy it as a pitch? Basically, they’re buying the reliably bad part (and unoriginal I might add) and now hoping that, miraculously, the good part will show up.
Oh my. Have we cashed out creatively on planet earth?
Love this idea. Why didn’t I think of that?
Is this for real? This is a real movie?
Life As We Know It bombed. This is like making a sequel to Morning Glory.
Life as we know it grossed 92mill worldwide. budget was 38mill. doesn’t sound like a bomb to me.
This sounds like that movie “Junior”. Which was kinda crazy and most of all mediocre.
For real? Sounds awful.
Life as We Know It has made $100M worldwide and is still earning off a $38m budget. Hardly a bomb.

That’s right. That was the film that didn’t have a publicity budget and the theaters gave up the screens for free. At best the film will get close to even in ancillaries but a studio pic that costs 38 mil couldn’t possibly get into the black on 96 mil worldwide. It just plain doesn’t pencil out.
Summit will try and make this toid with two lesser names (And yeah, their are lesser names than Heigl and Mr. Fergie out there), a 20 mil budget and smaller ad campaign. The film will bomb here in the US, not get anything foreign unless they pump money into it and Summit will end up eating 10-15 mil or more. Seems like they could have least asked for a script with that kind of loss leader.
Yuk, yuk, yuk. This is a stinker. Roll down the window and toss it out.
Oh God, this has got to be one of the worst ideas ever… Fucking idiots whoever thought this will make a good movie, they ought to get fired.
“Yuk, yuk, yuk. This is a stinker. Roll down the window and toss it out.”
Oh yeah, HarleyDrifter knows comedy. Would have to with that name.
It will star Kirk Cameron and Dudley errr Judge Reinhold.
I left the industry a year ago, occasionally start to miss it, then hear about shit like this and realize I’m missing nothing. And let’s be honest: relative to other shit that’s picked up, this isn’t even bottom of the shit-barrel. There’s worse.
I’m happy for any writer who gets a project picked up, it’s the clueless execs and taste-lacking public who allow this to happen.
Can’t believe execs of this caliber jumped at it.
Has Todd Garner ever produced a good film?
You gonna tell me you never heard of Tomcats?
‘Life As We Know It’ critically bombed and though it made money makes the leads look tasteless.
Instead of this crap idea someone needs to make a Borat-style film about a Thomas Beatie-type, the pregnant transgendered man – that would be so gosh darn edgy.
Hey Harry, the answer to your question is NO, Todd Garner has never produced a good film. Mall Cop may have been his best, and he has like 20 film credits. So if mall Cop is your best out of 20, DON’T LET THIS GUY MAKE MOVIES ANYMORE!
You’re both absolutely right – I knew Garner’s name well and for all the times I heard his name, I thought he had at least one decent film under his belt.
Stunned by how atrocious that list is.
Arnold Schwartzenegger “Junior” 1994 was a hit but Schwartzenegger was at a career peak. They shun unproven writers in Hollywood for writers like this who have been proven to not be forward thinking. I’m happy to see a spec sale rather than an ad*ptation, rem*ke, or re-im*gin*tion of a previous story. But, this has been done to death. Reality TV has done role reversal, sitcoms, movies, it’s been done. More Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, less refried vomit.
