Here is a first look at Fox’s Steven Spielberg/Peter Chernin-produced prehistoric drama Terra Nova. The network just debuted the first promo during the Super Bowl. Similar to the Avatar-flavored trailer shown at TCA, the new promo for the first time peeks at the show’s special effects, featuring a few shots of dinosaurs. Now Terra Nova looks like Avatar meets Jurassic Park. The series is set to premiere in the fall after a preview in May.

Nobody cares about Chernin. Nobody knows who he is.
For him to elevate himself to Spielberg’s level is insanity.
He’s never done anything creative in his entire life. Are we now supposed to believe that he’s some type of creative producer?
Chernin is an egomaniac and shame on Steven for allowing Peter’s inflated ego to be listed in that manner.
Steven must be mellowing as he gets older. It’s the first time he’s ever allowed such false advertising. Super 8 made sense when it said From Producer Steven Spielberg and Director JJ Abrams.
Peter Chernin is no JJ Abrams. He’s a fat mogul who cashed in his chips for an absurdly extravagant golden parachute.
I’m trying to imagine the negotiating that Chernin engaged in to get such a co-equal listing with Spielberg. How did that happen?

Yes it matters a lot. Who wrote the pilot teleplay? That writer is the real co-creator not Mr. Chernin. It should read from Spielberg and (name of pilot writer) that would be accurate and truthful.

It is more cud from M.A.W.M. writers who are clearly stealing from AVATAR. It is so blatant. Stephen Lang is saying the same speech in TN that he did in AVATAR.
Sing it, sister! At least Avatar dared to make blue people equal characters to the white people! If these M.A.W.M. writers don’t create some blue or at least orange characters on that prehistoric world, Fox can watch me change the channel back to some yellow Walking Dead zombies!

Peter Chernin ran 20th Century Fox into the ground after Joe Roth left. He is the sole reason Fox have churned out nearly two decades of crap and spawned the godawful legacy of Tom Rothman. If Chernin had not been installed by Murdoch, we would have gotten the good Roth “Alien vs Predator” he was developing, instead of the two joke versions that were finally lensed.
And now this? Shameful.
I only know Peter Chernin’s name from reading this site on an almost daily basis. The average TV watcher who doesn’t care or pay attention to industry news is not going to know who the hell he is.
I laughed out loud when I saw Chernin’s name equated to Spielberg’s. One can only imagine some fanboy in his room starring at posters of Chernin exclaiming… “I cannot wait!”
Well.. I will watch it. At least at first. But still can’t make myself to care or be interested. It has a boring premise. Yeah they will go from their dirty future (5 minutes I guess they will show it)to clean and green past. But then what? Shooting dinosaurs every 10 minutes? That will boring in 30 minutes. And then what their story will be about? Fighting with each other like in some soap opera?
Too bad they couldn’t do it Terminator style. You know – to go there only as body without all that weapons and try to survive between dinosaurs only with their smart brains and bare hands as weapon. Now that would be a lot more interesting for me to watch.
Or as if they would be sent there by mistake. In the wrong time. And then try to come back to their own time or to another, more civilized. Or if they would jump in time every episode like it was with Sliders when they were in new alternate reality every week.
Because this one just looks boring with it’s premise.
If you want to support runaway TV production…watch the show. This show is being shot in Australia.
If you want to support the busting of the actors union, watch the show. This type of TV show has always been shot under a Screen Actors Guild contract. “Terra Nova” is AFTRA.. a blatant attempt to bust SAG.
I ain’t watching and I hope it bombs.
Maybe they were just doing since they need a gigantic open area at a reasonable cost. Maybe it has nothing to do with a Union at all. Maybe you’re paranoid.
I can’t get past the paradox.. if they screw with the dinosaurs, the timeline that created them would be wiped out and they would just blink into non-existence.
The impressive thing is how seamlessly they cut and paste Lang’s Avatar performace into this…you can’t even tell it’s digitial editing.
I’ll watch it, definately. I’m just looking forwar to Falling Skies more.
Whatever you think of the story, the F/X will be great. They are done by Kevin Blank, who also did FRINGE, and ALIAS. I work in F/X lower level and i can tell you that Kevin is the F/X Supervisor secret weapon of TV. And one of the great human beings. He puts his all into everything, and one day soon the movies and studios will notice and pick him up. He was repped by WME before Terra Nova, but supposedly there was a shakeup and Kevin’s agent left. Devin Mann instead of laying out a plan for the guy just demanded he pay on Terra Nova the full commission. Even though Kevin got it on his own. So Kevin fired WME and Mann on the spot. This guy is amazing, some agency with real BTL chops should pick him up, he will be huge one day.

I agree, Kevin is a thief. I worked with him as a freelance artist and he would make me give him a kick back for the work he sent to me. I had no choice but to do it cause I needed the work. He would get a fat salary from the studio and get kick backs from artists. And he is a no talent hack, he had no direction and didn;t know what the hell he was doing most of the time.
This show should be sponosored by Chevy Nova exclusively. Every commercial should be for the Chevy Nova. They stopped making them long ago so Chevrolet must start manufacturing them again.

Expected better from Spielberg. It looks cheap. The FX look terrible.
I thought all the money the press says they spend would have at least given us a better trailer. The FX looked like something out of a cartoon. They need to rethink the look specially considering the Spielberg name attached. Looks cheesy.
It’s great to finally see some action and a few dinosaurs. Now I’m really getting excited! Can’t wait for the premiere in May!
