EXCLUSIVE: TBS’ first hourlong comedy series Glory Daze will not be returning for a second season. The cable network has opted not to renew the once-promising fraternity comedy from creators/executive producers Walt Becker and Michael LeSieur, about a group of friends who are trying to navigate college life in 1980s Wisconsin.
The nine-episode first season of the show had a quiet run, premiering with a soft 1.8 million viewers and a 1.0/3 in 18-49 in November and gradually slipping to wrap with a 1.1 million viewers last month. The show did get a sizable boost from DVR viewership and had a very low median age (just north of 25), but that probably wasn’t enough to keep it from cancellation. One of the actors on the show, Chris D’Elia, just booked a pilot, NBC’s untitled Whitney Cummings comedy. TBS is staying in the hourlong comedy genre with two new pilots, now in production: Hound Dogs and The Wedding Band.

A year from now, Koonin and Wright will realize that hour-long comedies (straight comedies) do not work and they will change the mandate back to half-hours.
Brain Trust, The Wedding Band and Hound Dogs (to me this could have been a great half-hour), I’m just not sure I see these shows working week to week for an hour.
This was my favorite show on TBS. I liked it even better than Family Guy… Very disappointed, TBS, very disappointed.
To bad….my family is very disapointed… this was such a great show, good for laughs. Can’t believe such good shows get cancelled. we all need good laughs now a days. Sick of all the reality shows, this was just good fun and funny!!! Miss the Bill Engvall show too. Two great shows TBS Cancelled that are funny, just like they say in their advertising. Come on!
Couldn’t agree more. Family Guy is hilarious but Glory Daze was a step away from cartoon comedy and into college life humor. I am actually in a fraternity and loved this show and know many friends that thought it was awesome as well. Really sad to hear it is not being renewed
Once I found this show, I really fell in love with it. It was too funny. Of course, I am a child of the 80′s, so it did take me back. It was something different among the reality tv shows and the medical and lawyer shows.
I was really looking forward to seeing what mayhem the boys got into 2nd season.
just saw the pilot with the stoner dude on it on NBC -so had to check on glory daze…TBS c’mon? what are you cancelling this for? this was a good show with a million followers-bring this back…
Meh. I liked some of the actors, particularly Tim Meadows, Matt Bush, and the criminally underused Tim Jo, but the show just wasn’t good. It just kind of made you sad that the actually decent Greek was getting cancelled.
Huge bummer for male viewers seeking fun programming that’s NOT the garbage on Spike TV.
Thank you sir. Besides i looked foward for that show to come on every week
Agree, really funny show that I was looking forward to season 2, they had a great cast every week and the stoner Watchowski was hilarious, plus it actually felt like a real college show, hook ups, drugs, beer, boobs. I liked how they didn’t hold back, most shows do and try to “church” it up a bit. Gonna miss that show
I’m super disappointed in this, I really enjoyed the show, but had a feeling it was going to be a one season and done show.
very sad.
That show was so good
I was looking forward for season 2.
I agree
i agree great show and always good for a laugh or two. They didnt even give this show a chance
Maybe TBS should consider getting into scripted drama. How about acquiring the first season of Terriers. Rerun/Relaunch it through summer 2011. Terriers was on most critic top shows of 2010. So it would be great if TBS pulls a TNT or direct tv one. And salvage this gem of a show.
TBS long ago branded itself as the comedy sister network to TNT.
I don’t recall any ads for it, BUT if its like most of the sitcoms these days no great lost
Who airs original episodes over the Xmas holiday? Too bad this show wasn’t given a chance.
It was promoted like hell on other stations, with Conan, on Conan, billboards, other shows like Tyler Perry killed at the same time. It premiered well before Christmas and tanked after people saw the first and second episodes… so, no excuses. Just not a good show and not well written.
Not true. Ratings were climbing until Christmas break hit. Fourth episode was one of their highest rated.
this was a really fun show with a lot of potential. The hour long comedy on basic cable is an impossible format and when you then launch the show over the holidays with no marketing and no marketing to the under 25 crowd it is very difficult to be successful
I LOVED Glory Daze.
This show SUCKED. I’m sorry. I worship ANIMAL HOUSE and was very eager to see a frat comedy on TBS, but it was so derivative and unfunny; Walt Becker’s a hack. I gave it several episodes, and it went nowhere. GREEK is far better, though even that petered out.
AGREED! Derivative, but badly done!!!
Bummer. Solid show.
too bad… great show, really funny. the hour long was weird given its comic roots. tbs had nothing compatible with it either. can’t say the marketing made people tune in… time to shift the focus to half hour
The network never gave this a chance. The show only got better with each episode.
Too bad for TBS; they had a good thing to build on with younger viewers. Just goes to show how stupid the basic cable networks can be. First AMC cancelled the smart Rubicon, now TBS is losing a quality comedy.
I’m not sorry to see this one go. I love good comedies, even raunchy ones, but some of the plots crossed the line for me:
1. The “date rape” contest.
2. The “who can make the biggest bowel movement, then eat it” episode… GROSS!
3. The quadriplegic roommate the guys kept knocking out of his wheelchair.
4. When they tried to determine people’s races by their odors (blindfold “smell test”).
Bad taste can be great, but this show was tone deaf.
I watched every single episode of this show and I can’t recall any of those storylines you just mentioned or even a quadriplegic roommate.
@ Candace ^ – did you even watch this show..? none of the four points you mentioned were ever a plot point in Glory Daze. There is no roommate in a wheelchair character, everything you listed is not related to this show at all.
Actually, those ARE Glory Daze plots. And I didn’t like them, either.
Candace, are you confusing “Glory Daze” with “Blue Mountain State”? I’ve only seen a couple episodes of BMS but those episodes sound more in line with what that show was doing
I’m gonna wager this might be Blue Mountain State you’re thinking of.
Not Blue Mountain State, Brick. You are thinking of Modern Family.
Wrong show. That was not GLORY DAZE. Sad to see this one go..
GLORY DAZE SUCKED WORSE THAN BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE. Shant? shit everywhere as a prank. How stupid. And the last episode was moronic.
yeah, episodes 4 about Shant and episode 6 or 7 with Gina Gershon WAS THE WORST EVER!!!!
WTF are you talking about? They didnt have these eps-that must have been in your fantasy masochistic mind! You probably couldnt get into college, and still living in yo mommas cellar!
I think you are thinking of another show. This was a great show with lost of SNL and other comedians doing cameo parts. The show grew from episode to episode. I recorded each episode, showed it to my friends, and we all loved it.
To TBS, I know you will probably not read this but here in Washington State I know of at least 30 people that were looking forward to Season two, the second half of their freshman year. Too Bad, I think you dropped the ball on this one.
I agree! I religiously watched this show and I do ot remember any of these plots. You may want to know your facts before commenting! This show was very funny and I am very sad to see it go!!!
What were you watching…. I watched each episode and don’t remember any of these topics! This was a great show!!!
Candace…..I think you are thinking of a different show as the things you mentioned did not happen on this show,
The clothes were all wrong. Clothes in the 80s looked and fit badly. All the stuff the actors wore looked tailor-made. And then there was the writing…
I graduated from college in ’87. I thought they did a great job with the costuming – with exception that they didn’t have enough JAMS shorts in the series, and not enough “alternative/punk” random fashions. I’m going to miss this show!
Too many shows on tv…
Not enough quality.
This show lasted one too many seasons to be honest. The jokes were flat, the plot was no where to be seen, and the characters seemed to be all horrible stereotypes (not even in a good way). Then again…it was a TBS show.
What a bummer. Great show, lots of charm, humor and a fantastic young cast. Who launches a show geared for kids in their young 20′s during the holidays? Network fail.
No more Stankowski?! No!!!! TBS, say it isn’t so!
I agree, I was really hoping in season 2 they would realize the gem of a character they had and use him more. My only problem with the show was there wasn’t enough STANKOWSKI!!!
Dammit. I’m going to have to have some Tammi Time now.
Sucks, I really wanted to see what was gonna happen with Joel and Christy.
the show was set in indiana….
Any show that TBS shoves down my throat with constant ads everywhere you look during the baseball playoffs deserves to be shit-canned.
Frank Caliendo? Glory Daze? We hardly knew ye. Can’t wait to see what they force on us this October.
Really? Come on TBS!! You finely have a show on that I like. Now you have gone and took it off.
