Time Warner Cable has inked a 20-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers to distribute the basketball team’s games beginning with the 2012-13 season. In conjunction with the pact, TWC will launch two regional sports networks in HD, one of them in Spanish, which will carry all Lakers games. In Lakers’ territory, which includes all of Southern California, Nevada and Hawaii, the 2 nets will be available to all satellite, cable and telco providers. Locally, TWC will take over for CBS-owned KCAL-TV, which airs Lakers’ road games, and Fox Sports Net, which carries the home games.

Wow!! That’s a humongous blow to FOX Sports West. Now all they will have is the Kings and Angels.
GOOD! My People’s Court won’t get interrupted anymore at 5pm.
god i hope this means more games with just the arena noise. I hate Joel M.
^^ Seriously? People’s Court?
This is huge blow for FOX Sports West and KCAL. Lakers get the best ratings among the local LA times. Time Warner must have paid an outrageous sum of money to the Lakers to get these rights.
Jerry needs more poker chips.
I miss Chick Hearn. Now there was a great NBA announcer. He and Vin Scully are the two best announcers.
It is a sad day. People that can’t afford cable won’t be able to watch the Lakers on free TV anymore, such as senior citizen living on social security, the working poor, etc.
Cable used to be for people that couldn’t get reception over the air. Now the cable companies are removing all the good free entertainment from the airwaves. There were almost no bowl games on free TV on New Years Day. If you wanted to watch the Rose Bowl on TV you had to pay.
Nobody cares.
I hate to say it, but we’re to blame. The voting public. We’re the ones who sat by while companies merged & merged & merged & voted folks in office who let it happen for a handout. Now we’re all sick to death when they cable & media companies screw us to maximize profits.
This is just like how ESPN & the SEC Football Conf signed a huge mega deal for televising all the games that went largely under the radar.
Ayn Rand my ass!
I’ll never understand why we think corporations are here to help us.
And if you have Direct TV instead if TWC are you just screwed?
Too many people support the team that don’t have cable. Not cool.
