CBS and CBS TV Studios have signed Stephen Guarino in a talent holding deal.· He was discovered through the CBS Diversity Showcase, which features minority as well as LGBT performers. At the showcase last month, he wrote and performed a number of sketches (photo on right). Guarino previously co-starred on Logo’s sketch-comedy series The Big Gay Sketch Show and will appear in 2 episodes of ABC’s upcoming comedy series Happy Endings.
NBC has signed a talent deal with actor-comedian Randall Park, in part based on Park’s comedy short Blueberry (video below). In film, Park, repped by TalentWorks and Levity, had a role in Dinner for Schmucks and will be seen in Larry Crowne. On TV, he co-starred in Fox’s comedy pilot Tax Man last season.

The headline should read: “People given money, potential for fame based largely on their race/sexual preference.”
Wow, way to s*%t on the studio’s attempt to add a little diversity to their line up. They run a commendable program to find talent that doesn’t normally get noticed. Stephan Guarino is a wonderful performer I had the pleasure of seeing in NY doing amazing improv.
Here Here, Mike. Stephen is super funny and any accolades he gets are due to talent and hard work. Good for him and Randall! And it’s not like CBS couldn’t use a little diversity. Good for them too.
Sorry,
Then shouldnt that headline be applied to any white actor when they’re cast in the lead of something?
Randall is a great actor and I’m happy for him. He deserves a shot. But equally talented, is his co-star in Bluebery, Marques Ray. No, I do not represent Marques, just a fan.
Saw both of these guys at recent comedy showcases and they stood well above the other performers.
More power to both of them, life is short, so are peoples memories, go for it, be funny!
I love Randall Park! He’s done amazing shorts both on his own and for Channel 101. I can’t wait to see him in bigger projects. He should’ve been on Community and/or Parks & Rec by now!
How wonderful! Stephen recently won Best Actor for a film he starred in at Outfest.
Uh, I watched the comedy short Blueberry but it was missing the “comedy” part. Not even a whiff of a laugh. Nothing.
And NBC signed him to a talent holding deal?
I guess diversity means never having to say you’re funny.
Blueberry isn’t funny to you? You probably think Carlos Mencia is a genius.
Blueberry is funny for about a minute. Then its one-note premise gets old and the project labors on and on and on and on. How about a twist to catch us off-guard? Nope. Maybe an explanation of why he calls himself “Blueberry”? Why Randall needs a whore in the first place? Maybe Randall ends up loving it and Blueberry gets more thn he bargained for? Something interesting. Stale, one-note, student quality film.
Somebody’s jealous lol.
I saw Stephen on Logo’s Big Gay Sketch Show. He was great and this is well deserved. That show was a who’s who of up and coming comedic stars.
This is great news for CBS & CBS TV Studios! The movie the previous commenter mentioned for which Stephen won the LA OutFest Grand Jury Award for “Outstanding Actor in a Feature Film” was the indie gay romantic comedy BearCity ([bearcitythemovie.com). I’m one of BearCity’s executive producers and we loved Stephen’s participation in our film. All of the BearCity team is thrilled and delighted at Stephen’s well-deserved recognition. We also congratulate his fellow comedian Randall Park, mentioned in this article, snagged by NBC in a similar deal. Congratulations guys!
Hardest part of any script is the ending. Especially true in a short film which, like a short story, needs a surprising twist at the end, but one which is true to its characters.
This short doesn’t have it. Indeed, its comic moments are all front loaded.
But maybe the guy was hired as an actor, not a writer.
Man or woman or Blueberry, straight or gay, when you choose the comedy genre you got to be funny.
“Sorry” – In your world, what would it take for a performer to be signed based on talent and not race/sexual preference? Straight and white, huh?
“still waiting to laugh” – So because you didn’t think “Blueberry” was funny, you automatically jump to the conclusion that he was only signed because Randall Park is Asian, despite the fact that his announcement said nothing about that. Just checking that it was still 2011.
